What is the most beautiful thing that happened to you recently?

Carmen, don't fret, you can still eat Tony..there's no meat to him.. wink

And congratulations! I know life decisions like becoming a vegetarian etc. are important steps forward.

For me? Earlier this month, my 74 year old Dad was working on the roof of his cottage and fell to the ground. They had to helicopter him to the hospital as the cottage is on an island. He took a lot of damage but was back at work 9 days later...frickin amazing. It was way too soon for him to go back to work...but the fact that he COULD...and the fact he had the drive to get back on his feet really gave me a positive rush. He's got the strength of an in shape 35 year old...and the knowledge that he should be around for a long time (God willing) also gives me contentment.

Anyway, great topic Carmen and have a brussels sprout for me!

And the best to everyone in EC.Com land!

When I hit Jammin' Java in Vienna, VA. 2 Fridays ago to see "The King of Country Western Troubadours," Unknown Hinson....an insane gentleman who looks like a cross between Faron Young (complete with Nudie suit) and Bela Lugosi (with vampire fangs and huge fake sideburns), sings the funniest country songs I've ever heard (with the most politically incorrect lyrics imaginable), cusses out the audience, tries to pick up women ("womerns")while performing on stage, shoots a gun (with blanks) several times during his set, usually does a terrible ventriloquist act, but left his dummy behind this time....and encored by doing killer versions of Hendrix's "Manic Depression" and "Voodoo Chile," complete with ungodly great and lengthy guitar solos (after bad-mouthing "rawk" music and hippies throughout his set).......very touching and beautiful....

I'd like to thank you all in advance for the warm reception that I will receive for revealing that I have become a leafarian I only eat leaves (NO Bark!) and the bug inhabitants that might reside there so as not to upset the harmonious flow of the universe by removing the bugs and forcing my will on the universal blob-thing.

Although I must admit of all the things I've given up I miss Marshmallow Cream, Quisp and Kim Chee the most, not necessarily in that order or combination.

Oh, Laurie, CONGRATULATIONS!!! I pray that mother and child will be healthy and happy and the time will be glorious for you and your husband!

We had the opportunity of watching our son, Christopher, and his fiance', Val, move into their first home last weekend. It was so much fun watching friends that they have grown up with all laughing and helping them set up! And the siblings --- watching the siblings help...! I think the greatest moment was when Chris took his brother, Shaun, out to show him the yard and deck. (Shaun recently found out that his new daughter will be born with spina bifida.) Chris showed him around and then stopped at the deck.

Chris: This is where we're going to put the ramp.

Shaun: What ramp?

Chris: You are going to bring her over to visit, right? She's going to need a way to get in!

Shaun: (Look of shock and disbelief) You're going to put in a ramp! (very touching smile) OK!

Life doesn't get much better than this stuff.

SugarB--Nov. 18 is a great day... my dad's and my brother's birthday.

Laurie, congrats, and good luck. That's awesome. Keep the faith!

As for my reply to this thread.... Yep, I gotta draw on the "kid" thing. Just got back from a 6-hour drive with my two daughters (7 and 3) to visit my mom, who's got a surgery scheduled for Nov. 2. Just seeing that my daughters understood that their grandma has to go through this ordeal, and that they wanted to cheer her up and give her encouragement... well, it was a beautiful thing. You had to be there.

And on the long drive back in the dark of night, after the Scooby Doo DVD had finished... What's better than hearing your two daughters singing along (really, really loud) to "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" and "Bungalow Bill"? And "Drivin' Around"? And, of course, "Surfer Girl"?

Thanks Muzza, and, as it turned out, I got to hold him again yesterday! They live 134 miles from us, and they showed up as I was getting off work yesterday! My hubby knew they were coming, but I didn't! What a wonderful surprise! He's 12 days old now and so very precious!

Is that true? Are you really a Leafarian?

Congratulations, Laurie! Believe, and it will happen!

Kirk, you do indeed feel things deeper than most of us and are extremely spiritual, compassionate and a very warm, caring friend.

The most beautiful thing that's happened to me lately is when I walked in to symphony rehearsal, a new young lady from the viola section came up to where I was sitting and asked if I remembered her. Indeed, I did. I taught her in 4th and 5th grade and she went on to become a fine violist. (I also taught her brother bass, and now he's 23!) She's now happily married and teaching strings and band. She's just gorgeous inside and out. She said, "My parents were so happy to see your name on the program. If it weren't for *you,* I wouldn't be here."

WOW! That made me feel over-the-moon wonderful and put tears in my eyes.

That's exactly what I do this for: to be as proud as punch of those kids from the time I meet them throughout the rest of their lives!
