JuliaD
What sort of great entertainment have you seen/heard that is *not* your basic musician/singer/band? Music is generally a part of most entertainment, but I'm talking about something where the music is an accompaniment, not "the main course"... I think seeing Cirque du Soleil live was positively thrilling, the performers left me awestruck, and I've since bought several of their videos from other shows, and each one seems spectacular in its own right. So, what have you seen?
Billy K.
Julia, I have not seen the C de S.....but heard some good things about it. One other non-musical thing I have never seen is pro soccer. We do have Manchester United vs. Glasgow coming up here in Seattle. I may get tickets to that. Never been to hockey either; may go to a Canucks game later this year.Used to go to wrestling, with a bunch of the guys, years ago. But really have no desire to nowadays as the WWE has really gotten out of hand.I wanted to go see the Yoko Ono art exhibit when it was in San Francisco, but was often too busy doing other things when I was there. We have a lot of fairs and ethnic festivals here in the Seattle area. Just got to figure out when and where they are. Great food and great culture.I plan to be down in Reno for the Hot August nights....where they cruise classic cars through town..... Tony Cartmill
I saw C. de S. in Vegas and thought it was very good. Even the live musicians up in the rafters were tight. I also saw Blue Man Group. They were very good also. Funny, Rythmic and unique. They even pose with you for pictures after the show. My wife left the hotel with blue lip marks on her face...What moves me these days is a good episode of "SCRUBS" on NBC. That show is usually a half hour of smart-ass life and death comedy and drama magic. Their throw-away comedy lines are better than most sitcom punch lines. JuliaD
ahhhh, yes, classic cars... I had me one of those, but I sold it recently(a 1978 Gold Special Edition Trans Am). I have a 1998 purple Camaro now. I used to do car shows and such with the Trans Am, even parade laps before Nascar races at Pocono, but those were my younger, more energetic days Tony, what Cirque show did you see? O???I'd love to go to Vegas to see "Zumanity", alas I'm almost 100% sure I won't get there. I like Scrubs, too, very funny show!
Steveh
JuliaD, Interesting topic! Maybe my interests are really narrow, but I'm entertained by: music, sports, and comedy. Top sports entertainment: NFL football, and basketball to a degree. Top comedy: Seinfeld, The Simpsons, Jim Carrey, Adam Sandler, and Woody Allen.Steveh
darlene
JuliaD, Great question, let's see. I haven't seen C de S but I LOVED Marcel Marceau live. What an artist! My favorite thing in the world is to go to Connecticut to car races(only for this purpose) to see my heartthrob, Paul Newman. My husband's nephew used to be on his pit crew and hang out with him (Jason lives in Connecticut), and Paul and Joanne (Woodward) are wonderful and down to earth and fun. My other heartthrob of all time: Robert Wagner, and I go to see him in plays whenever he is in my area. I saw him with the beautiful Stefanie Powers (with whom he starred in Hart to Hart, which I adored) in the play "Love Letters" and they were so warm and witty and wonderful together. They stayed for two hours to see everyone, give autographs and pose with everyone for pictures. I have a picture of my mom with them, which I cherish, since I no longer have her. I cherish my picture of him posing with me, but I was hugging him so tight, he told my husband to take the picture before I crushed him! Other than that, A & E mysteries, especially British ones, love the series Lovejoy, and love to read British and American classics. --Darlene
aggiesjc
Hi, Julia! Do activities count as entertainment? Normally, I ride my horse five days per week, but he's been very sick lately, and I've been playing veterinarian and paying real vets for help for two and a half months now trying to get him better. Finally, I see light at the end of the tunnel with that situation and should be back in the saddle soon. Also, I can't wait for winter because my other passion is snow skiing. I try to avoid tv and movies, but will certainly go to "Seabiscuit" when it opens this month. Saw Cirque twice in Las Vegas - O at Bellagio and Mystere at Treasure Island. Both excellent! Matthew C. Clark
I always watched The TV Guide Channel when Music News host Katie Wagner tells us about the latest headlines at 5:25 35 till 5:33 35 past the hour. Matt
JuliaD
Darlene, that's wild, my hubby's cousin Jackie also worked for Newman's race team! Jackie used to own a racing shop in Moosic, PA, but he's retired now. Paul Newman stays in touch with him tho, and has visited him several times.aggie, sorry about the horse, hope it makes a speedy and full recovery! skiing??? YUCK, you need snow for that! I HATE snow! Bleech! <img border="0" alt="[blech!]" title="" src="graemlins/blech.gif" /> Matt, sounds like a majorly exciting life you lead, I'm surprised you pull yourself away from the tv set to even check in here with all you've got going on! darlene
Matt, Katie Wagner is pretty cute--I can see why you watch. But then again, so is her dad! If HE were doing it, *I'D* be watching! --Darlene
Billy K.
Forgot about planetariums/observatories.......watching the stars and planets is ultimately cool.
JuliaD
I agree with you on that one, Billy, when my son was about 4, I got him a cheap telescope and we used to go outside summer nights and look at the stars, it was great. Oddly enough I got a good telescope for a Christmas gift, but it's still in the box, with winter being as rough as it was here, and all I've been thru in the last few months, I just never had the inkling to bring it out, but maybe in the next week or so I will. I'll never forget the first time I saw Saturn (aren't you glad I didn't say "I'll never forget the first time I saw Uranus"? lol!) with a telescope, it was my cousin's telescope, and I was just awed by the beauty of it, it sparkled and glittered and I could literally see the "stuff" in the rings to a point, it was breathtaking. The only college course I ever took was astronomy, and I only took it because the subject fascinated me. aggiesjc
Julia, I too have seen Saturn through a high-powered telescope, rings and all! That was during college, while in an astronomy lab on the roof of a building. The math required in those labs still makes me shudder (I was an English major), but Saturn is an amazing image that I feel lucky to have seen. Matthew C. Clark
Darlene or JuliaD: I am not a fan of Katie Wagner. I just got the latest issue of TV Guide in the mail & actress Poppy Montgomery of the CBS series "Without A Trace" on Thursday nights at 10:00 is oh, isn't she a dream. I don't watch the show though. When I went to Bio Love Match, I got a 92% because either Poppy was born in 1972 (June 19) or 89% born in 1975. I wouldv'e taken her piggy back riding had I met Poppy in person. I might have accidently peed my pants. I wonder if Poppy has a boyfriend. Oh, I also got a 70% against Katie Wagner who was born on May 11, 1964. Julie
When I'm not here at EC.com I'm busy doing genealogy. Just got back tonight from a week in Illinois retracing my "roots". Also, I love NASCAR! I love cars! I envy you driving around at Pocono, Julia! My first car was a silver '76 Camero that my folks got me for my 16th birthday. Wish I still had that little beauty! I've never been to a real race, just watch them on TV....sigh...--Julie
