JuliaD
They've got to be ahead of us if they're able to "drive around" in space in their spacemobiles. I believe there is life elsewhere, but I'm not entirely sure I want to be visited by things other than humans unless they're friendly and can communicate with me in a nice way. I saw a tv show yesterday that implied it's sort of arrogant for humans to think that, with all the species there are on earth, that it would be *us* that aliens were interested in communicating with. They said that on a scale of intelligent language, we are only mediocre in the food chain, and that if an advanced species were to visit here, which they'd have to be, to get here in the first place, they'd be far more likely to communicate with the humpback whale, as their language is more intelligent and complex than our own. They also implied it may be likely we'd be considered nothing more than insects to them... therefore, we'd be "squishable", they'd really think nothing of killing humans. Daisy McLintock
That message sounds awfully spooky to me. I'd be interested to know "who" put that documentary together and "who" this message is from. Why would humans call themselves mediocre? It'd be more like aliens would call us medicore communicator fish sticks in a microwave oven. Something in that message just doesn't seem "human," if you ask me.Anyway, I would not deny to any creature here on earth, large or small, human or not, the ability to communicate to anyone, to anything, anywhere. Freedom of speech goes across the galaxy and across the universe, as far as I'm concerned, to anyone who can, and I daresay there are some that can.But an interesting thought popped into my head. Even if an alien creature wanted to communicate with me -- would they communicate via the english language or with some kind of alien morse code that I could not understand? Here kitty kitty..... OMG I just had to throw that in.

Daisy McLintock
P.S. If aliens or whales are "superior," they are spiritually more capable, that's all.
Paulie Mississippi
Julia, that was actually the plot for Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home... when the enterprise encounters an alien craft that is hell-bent on destroying earth because it's "call" is not answered... because the call was to the long-extinct hump-back whales... so the Enterprise time-traveled back to present day (80's) earth to take whales back... to repopulate the species and save the planet... Just because we are the ones who have "evolved" or "run amok" or whatever on the planet, does not mean that we are the ones that aliens visit... maybe it is whales... or pigs or cows or ducks... who knows... maybe on other planets there was no great asteroid crash to wipe out their dinosaurs so they evolved to rule that planet... What I do know is that sometime in the late forties or fifties my parents saw something... probably the time frame is when Dad was stationed in Corpus Christi... that they would never talk about except in the vaguest of terms... regarding UFO's and the way they were treated after reporting what they saw... and like others here, all I ever got was the most shadowy of references up to their dying days... It is possible that these are "scout ships" determing if we are progressing well enough... or should we be "reseeded"... or maybe it's a "space-cowboy" just checking up on "the herd"... James
I think I may be able to put this UFO controversy thing finally to rest..It happened some moons ago, when I (James) was living in Hyde Park. Hyde Park is a neighborhood on the south side of Chicago right on Lake Michigan. I had decided to take a walk just after midnight, as that's the one time I can go out without being mobbed by those attracted to premium members of the male gender. Within a few minutes of leaving my home, I had made it out to my favorite spot in Chicago... Promontory Point, which is a little peninsula jetting out into the lake with a beautiful view of downtown Chicago. And I'll never forget what transpired next..As I was gazing from the Point at the gorgeous view of downtown Chicago, I happened to notice a circular shaped lit-up airship kind-of thing settle right down onto the surface of the lake, right off shore from where I was hanging out. And seconds later I was being beamed into this strange looking circular shaped airship!!Upon being beamed into the airship, I was greeted by 13 hot looking female types with kind-of a greenish tint to their skin, who proceeded to put handcuffs on me.Well, at first this relaxed me some as I figured it must be Christy Hefner and Playboy magazine's latest 12 centerfolds up to their regular antics. Christy & the girls periodically shanghai me to Playboy parties and attempt to have their way with James (when I tell them I'm spoken for by The James Harem, they will hear none of it). Anyway...As my eyes cleared I realized that this time it wasn't Christy Hefner & the 12 Playboy chicks, nor was it Cindy Crawford, nor was it Stevie Nicks, or any of James' other regular stalker chicks. These were real life Martian chicks!!The Martian chicks eventually warmed up to James (in this way they're very much like their Earthling sisters)...they broke down and told me what was going on. They said they had been sent to Earth by the rulers of Mars, and had been given the mission to "sample" the most superior male specimen that Earth had to offer... and that the Mars intelligence agencies had deduced (correctly) that this superior specimen was James.(they were also given the assignment to sample the other end of the spectrum, and thus asked me if I had Hollies' address)Anyway you'll never believe what happened next. Batman's doozies with Catwoman were minor league compared to James' adventure with these Martian chicks. I can't believe I'm still here to tell about it.. To Be Continued..... JuliaD
Wait just a minute guys, I said the tv show said the whales language is more complex, therefore, making it more attractive to a superior intelligence. It's like when we try to communicate with a squirrel... the squirrel just doesn't understand us. Supposedly the same would happen with aliens. We just wouldn't understand them. But the complexity of the whales language is more likely to appeal to them. Don't shoot the messenger, okay? I only repeated what was on a tv show, and the study was done by people with more intelligence than I, so I'm not going to criticize their findings. The show was on national geographic, or the history channel, and I think it was actually about "USO's", unidentified submerged objects, UFO's which crashed into the ocean and formed colonies there. JuliaD
paulie, the show also implied *we* might be the aliens... that our ancestors were aliens that populated earth, then left for whatever reason.Who knows what the truth is... but it is interesting to think about. LC
BTW, I just looked it up.... I started a UFO thread last year and James wrote of an extraterrestrial fling -- and even said he thought he was pregnant with an alien's baby. How'd that work out, J? http://www.ericcarmen.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=6;t=002154#000000
LC
Seriously, not to hijack this thread.... I'm skeptical of alien life forms.... I just feel like we'd have real, honest-to-goodness, indisputable, historical evidence by now, although the Phoenix Lights starts to come close, given all the witnesses. But you'd think we'd know something truly substantive by now.... And it's not like our government would ever cover up any knowledge it had... right? Paulie Mississippi
We might have had "honest-to-goodness, indisputable, historical evidence" were it not (allegedly) sequestered and hidden by the governments of the world... 'cause I'm pretty sure our modes of government are primative enough that the wise aliens could give us a more fair and balanced way to live... so of course those in power do not wish to lose that stranglehold on the masses... JuliaD
..thanks to eric for bringing this up,or else i would have been ridiculed forever here beyond belief!! This is an interesting point. I have to wonder if it were someone other than Eric who broached this topic, would the replies have been different? My bet would be, they'd have been very different, not by the believers, but by the non-believers.

My bet would be, they'd have been very different, not by the believers, but by the non-believers. Ohhh, now see, I see it differently. Reading through this thread, to me there doesn't seem much of anything but points of views about some lights in the Phoenix sky and what they are and so on. As we all know UFO means unidentified flying object, which in turn means, it hasn't been identified yet. It doesn’t mean extraterrestrials; it doesn’t mean it’s not extraterrestrials. I personally don't think these opinions would have been different if anyone else had started this thread. But that's just me.Believers/ non believers? I take it that means life on other planets. I really hope the folks who come to this thread want to share a view, and not come here to ream someone just because they do or do not believe that there is more out there than us. That would totally suck! lolChris, if you wait for someone else to post what you want to speak about in fear you’ll be “ridiculed forever,†you may never share a topic again. After all, you were the one who started the Vatican/John Lennon thread and it turned into something quite interesting. Though at times I found some posts started to tug at my heart because of my Christian faith, I still think people don’t get on a thread just to be cruel. I truly believe most people want to share an opinion and not share a “jab.â€And JuliaD, I enjoy your posts, you sound quite interesting. As for this thread, when you posted: "Who knows what the truth is... but it is interesting to think about" I though: "That was perfectly put!" So true...
