julesberry
Has anyone heard this from the new Bob Seger album Face The Promise?I was just listening to the radio with half an ear and thinking Geez, sounds like Party's Over.
Raspbernie
Yea, I have they played it on the radio this morning when they announced that he and Anita Baker in that order would be singing the National Anthem at the first World Series (GO TIGERS!) games to be played in Detroit, Michigan. You know as I was listening to it I said this sounds like something I've heard before? Now that you brought it up YES I agree with you......... marvin
I've got the cd, and "Wreck this Heart" is one of the songs that stood out for me. The tempo and melody are similar to a zillion other songs, including "Party's Over."Marv
raspberrywine
I hope Wally sues him. Id rather have Wally singing the national anthem in Detroit than Seger.Seger has been singing the same song for 25 years. The Bob Seger System (1969-1972) was tremendous, the guy really rocked early on.
James
I liked him better earlier on also. But one monster exception, IMHO was "Main Street".
Tim From Wisconsin
Marvin is right - As much as the song might sound similar to "Party's Over", you'd be hard pressed to find a song that doesn't have a hint of another song in it.My fellow Wisconsinite raspberrywine - It makes all the sense in the world that Seger is singing the anthem in Detroit, it's where he is from. It won't surprise me if Kid Rock sings it one of the other nights (Maybe accompanied by Ted Nugent)! Also, It's not Seger's fault that "Old Time Rock and Roll" has been played a billion times on the radio, if you have ever seen him in concert you would no that he has been no one trick pony the last 25 years. I'll be going to his show in Milwaukee on 11/16 - I will buy you a beer if you are there! Tim
raspberrywine
Bob Seger??, Id fall asleep during the concert Tim! I think they should have Diana Ross sing it with Denny McClain accompanying her on the Hammond organ.
marvin
Though I'm also a big fan of Seger (go ahead Raspberrywine, I'm ready for the blast!), I must admit his ballads tend to follow the same melodic structure. The new album surprised me with its generally strong content. I think that it is his best work since 1990's "The Distance." Marv
James
Jeeez, why is anyone defensive about being a fan of Bob Seger? Forget everything, Katmandu qualifies him for Hall Of Fame status by itself..
ira
I think the line..."Tryin' to make some Front Page Drive-In News"...qualifies Seger for the "Raspberries School Of Teen Angst" Hall Of Fame. What a lyric...What a picture he paints.-Ira. marvin
Seger teen angst? How about: "She had been born with a face that would let her get her way,He saw that face and he lost all control."Sounds like a good topic for another thread.Marv
Paulie Mississippi
OH... Bob Seger... I thought they said Bob Sagat!
Tony Cartmill
Now Marvin, Don't go all goo-goo for Bob Seger like you do Springsteen. Seger was OK for his time, but not a God like Bruce...
Matthew C. Clark
If you want classic Seger, write down "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man" (from "It's Happening") which I saw at the You Tube website. Paul Revere introduces the Bob Seger System (filmed in black & white) & Mark Lindsay talks to Bob afterwards. Matt
marvin
"Ramblin' Gamblin' Man" is Bob at his rock and roll finest. Trivia question: Which former member of Longbranch Pennywhistle(and a Detroit native) sings background on "RGM"?Marv

Couldn't stump you with Longbranch Pennywhistle, could I? Ok for bonus points, 1. Who else was in Longbranch Pennywhistle?2. What other Seger songs feature members of the Eagles?3. What Eagles song did Seger co-write?Marv

mannoman
Marv, Wreck This Heart is an awesome cut. Derivative - sure, but well done nonetheless. They performed it live on Letterman and it was superb.
