Captain Harlock
This was in a newsletter that Gibson sent me a while back. I thought it was pretty funny. Top Ten Albums Every Music Snob Name Checks.
Early Wynn
I guess I'm not a music snob since I don't own any of them. I
Guest Fresh
Geez, not only do I not own any of them,I've only heard of maybe 3 of the artists, although I've had some moldy peaches in the pantry for several weeks now!
Leff'tHome
I'm safe! No snobbery here.
GMan
The only one I have that is on that list is "Blonde On Blonde". I wouldn't think that would make me a snob. Would it?????
hollies65
I have five of them. The ones I really like are Blonde on Blonde and The Pavement. The Beefheart is his least accessable and many would find it unlistenable.
boopell
Wilco is the only one I've ever heard of.
JohnO
What, no Radiohead or Arctic Fire?????? I own exactly two of these - Trout Mask Replica, which I still haven't quite figured out after playing it hundreds of times, and Blonde on Blonde, to me, an all-time classic........and frankly, Beefheart, IMO, is more for insane people and/or slobs (which I definitely am), not snobs!!! Wilco and Jeff Tweedy, in particular, I find too precious and insufferable!
Captain Harlock
I think it only makes you a snob if you name check it and you think "yeah I'll be you're gonna be impressed when you hear that name".
TOMMY TUNES
I own Wilco's and possibly Belle and Sebastian's.
pretender
I have all of WILCO's albums. (as well as Tweedy's with Uncle Tupelo,Loose Fur and Golden Smog).I'm going to see them next Thursday in St. Louis for I believe the 10th time(not counting a couple of Tweedy solo shows)
JohnO
"What, no Radiohead or Arctic Fire??????"Hmmmm...how did this get thru? I thought I had typed "...no Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys or Arcade Fire?????" It somehow got abbreviated.....
JohnO
Hmmmm.....if one's a snob for liking or name-checking Wilco, but I don't like them, then does this mean I'm not a snob?...especially considering that I was once called a music snob for exactly that reason!?! (And I've repeatedly tried my damnedest to like them - it just ain't in the cards....I prefer Jay Bennett and his music to Tweedy...) hollies65
I must agree...Wilco's music does nothing for me...the only thing related to the band I ever liked was a band called Titanic Love Affair...had a great song, 'Planet Strange'.
pierre
Heard of all of them but "Aesop Rock"...own one of them. I saw Captain Beefheart on The Old Grey Whistle Test once...a truly demented sound. Yet intriguing at the same time. I was surprised not to see "The Modern Lovers" on there, which has been cited by several music snobs as a great album. But when I listened to it, it just sounded juvenile.
hollies65
'The Modern Lovers' is a great album. What is juvenile about it?
JohnO
While I agree about "The Modern Lovers", I can also see how someone might consider Jonathan R's lyrics a wee bit on the juvenile side. (e.g., "Pablo Picasso was never called an a**hole".....)
Billy K.
Don't own any of these...I've not heard "Trout Mask Replica",but I would like to hear it once. And although I have heard a few tracks from "Blonde on Blonde", I have not heard it in its entirety.Heard a couple of Wilco tracks, and would like to hear more.Don't like the Mars Volta at ALL. Irritating! Never ever HEARD of the Moldy Peaches or Aesop Rock. I'm surprised no Moby or Dream Theater on this list
