Daisy McLintock
Commenting.John Barry must have been lucky because I think it was Universal who got permission from the Rach's to use "Rhapsody On A Theme Of Paganini" for the very lovely "Somewhere In Time" (1980,platinum).Barry's extensive track record helped, of course: Bond movies, Out of Africa, Dances with Wolves, etc.

darlene
Rhapsody IS breathtaking. Perfect adjective. Every time someone performs it with one of my symphonies, I'm completely blown away by it. --Darlene
Daisy McLintock
Ah no fair, you get to see it performed live? I'd love to see that. Too bad I didn't ask my grandfather to play it when I was younger.... Darn.
darlene
Hi, Daisy. I just saw your post. Yes, I'm a violinist and I play in several symphony orchestras. Every once in awhile someone performs Rhapsody or one of Rach's piano concertos with one of the orchestras I play in, so I get to accompany it. Rhapsody is so breathtakingly beautiful, it's one of my very favorites, even though the violin parts aren't difficult at all. The beauty of the music more than makes up for it. --Darlene
