John P
Here is a list of some of the most unusual collaborations in music if that's what you could call it.1. Neil Young and Rick James - They were once in a band together called The Myna Birds. No recordings were made.2. Alice Cooper and Liza Minelli - She sang backing vocals on Alice's "Teenage Lament 74".3. Rob Zombie and Lionel Richie - Richie did backing vocals on Rob's rendition of "Brick House".4. Phil Collins and Black Sabbath - Played drums for Black Sabbath for only one song and gig. "Paranoid" for the 2002 anniversary concert for the Queen of England.5. David Bowie and Bing Crosby - Who can't forget their version of "Little Drummer Boy". A perenial favorite.6. Billy Joel and Twisted Sister - Played piano on TS's "Be Cruel to your School". Dee Snider asked Billy if he felt awkward playing on a heavy metal record. His response "I was playing heavy metal when you were still in your diapers".7. Pat Boone and Slash - Slash played guitar on Pat's godawful cd of heavy metal covers.8. Gene Simmons and Donna Summer - She sang backing vocals on Gene's solo album. And there you have it. Any others? For the record this is not about weird concert bills (Jimi Hendrix and The Monkees) so let there not be any confusion with that.
hollies65
Gene Pitney and the Rolling Stones ['Little By Little' off 'Englands Newest Hitmakers] Gene played piano on the track.
John P
Jimmy Page played lead guitar on Tom Jones "It's not unusual".
hollies65
He also played guitar on 'I'm Henery The 8th I Am'. That's Link Wray's guitar you hear in Terry Jacks otherwise lame 'Seasons In The Sun'. Glen Campbell's psyched out guitar is heard on the First Edition's 'What Condition My Condition Was In' AND on Sinatra's 'Strangers In The Night'. Poor4Life
Robert Plant and Alison KraussThe Frank Sinatra "Duets" albums where he sang with the likes of Bono, Jimmy Buffett, and others.Al Green and Lyle Lovett on "Funny How Time Slips Away"Jeff
Danny S.
Duane Allman did alot of the guitar tracks for Aretha Franklin's songs.
JohnO
Duane also played on Wilson Pickett's "Hey Jude" album, and introduced The Wicked One to the title track. Wilson at first didn't want to cover it, because he thought the title was "Hey Jew", and he didn't want to come across as prejudiced or politically incorrect! Cozmik
Pick up a Was(Not Was) CD. Guest vocalists on their CD's include Mel Torme, Frank Sinatra Jr., Kris Kristoferson, Ozzy Osbourne (Ozzy rapping!) and less bizarre vocalists on their CD's Doug Feiger and MitchRyder. JohnO
I always found the pairing of Neil Young with Booker T. & The MGs as his backing band for his early 90s world tour to be quite odd. We have the most tasteful guitarist and band on the planet, backing old "Hey, listen as I do my patented 1 note guitar solo on "Down By The River" for 22 minutes" Neil! JohnO
Also, white trash hillbilly rockers The Drive-By Truckers backing soul goddess Bettye LaVette on her "Scene Of The Crime" album last year was a very odd pairing, although it worked out well... Tim From Wisconsin
I don't see it on youtube, but one of the performance videos of "Fire" by The Crazy World of Arthur Brown features Carl Palmer on Drums and Elton John on keyboards.Tim
JohnO
Hmmm...Tom - Where or when did you see that video? I don't doubt that Elton may have appeared in an Arthur Brown video, but I don't think he was ever in The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, per se. Vincent Crane was, I believe, their only keyboard player back then. They went through several drummers, including Carl P. and Drachen Theaker (sp?), who split with Crane to form Atomic Rooster.Arthur & his latest Crazy World were supposed to tour the US this past April, opening for The Pretty Things....but it got cancelled. A shame...I was so looking forward to seeing him set himself on fire!
hbecstacy
Shaun Cassidy backed and produced by Todd Rundgren and Utopia on his 1980 LP "Wasp" ... including a screamingly weird falsetto cover version of Bowie's "Rebel Rebel" ... pretty cool album, actually...--Howard

It was a bunch of years ago on VH1 - I remember that Arthur had that goofy hat that could light on fire, and I did a double-take when I noticed Elton. Maybe it was a "one off" that he sat in for someone else? Tim
BeatleJay
Fleetwood Mac, and the USC marching band- Tusk. I guess you can call that music.
hollies65
'Tusk' was a great record...if you listen to just the Buckingham songs.
JohnO
Tim - Could be...the only connection I'm aware of between Arthur B. and Elton is that they were both in Ken Russell's movie "Tommy", around '79 or so. Maybe the video was made then?........

The Arthur Brown video features nothing but himself, no other musicians are in it.However, Elton DOES appear in and played piano on T Rex's "Bang a Gong"Jeff
