Did you know ...(Music Trivia)?

Peter Lewis of Moby Grape, who's Loretta Young's son, admitted that he wrote "If You Can't Learn From My Mistakes" (recorded for MG's 3rd album) with Steve McQueen, although Steve didn't share co-writing credit, at his insistence.

McQueen had been invited to a dinner party at Ms. Young's house sometime in '68. Peter happened to be in the house that day, and someone cancelled out, so Mama insisted that he show up and eat with them. Pete got in a fight at dinner with his uncle, Ricardo Montalban (married to Loretta's sister), over the Vietnam war....and McQueen was the only guest who defended him. They later wound up in his old room, smoking pot and playing music.

Skip & Flip, who had a couple of forgettable and pretty bad singles in the late 50's, "It Was I" and "Cherry Pie", were:

Skip Battin (later played with Evergreen Blueshoes, was the Byrds' last bassist, and was in the New Riders of the Purple Sage and one of the last versions of the Flying Burrito Brothers)...

and Gary Paxton (of Hollywod Argyles fame ("Alley Oop"), and producer of Bobby Pickett's "Monster Mash")

Someone mentioned George Young of the Easybeats and his two younger brothers above....George and songwriting partner Harry Vanda, once the Easybeats broke up, wound up recording under a wide variety of names, including Paintbox, Band of Hope, Grapefruit, Hoff's Whiskey Sour, Moondance, the Marcus Hook Roll Band (which also included Malcolm & Angus), and their only really successful one, Flash & The Pan, who had hits in Australia and Europe....and was, far and away, the least Easybeat-ish of the bunch!

"Did you know that Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan(the Turtles) are among the background singers on Springsteen's "Hungry Heart.""

And they also sang backing vocals for, among others, T-Rex, John Lennon, Roger McGuinn, Hoyt Axton, Steve Stills, Ray Manzarek, Keith Moon (on his one awful solo album), David Cassidy, Alice Cooper, Tonio K., Blondie, The Knack, Psychedelic Furs, Sammy Hagar, Livingston Taylor, Burton Cummings, Paul Kantner, Duran Duran, The Ramones....

(in addition to their half a dozen or more Flo & Eddie albums, an equal number of Frank Zappa & The Mothers releases, and The Turtles...)

...that Sonny Curtis, who wrote the greatest rock n roll song ever (IMO), "I Fought the Law", was a member of the Crickets (with Buddy Holly) just before Buddy's death. Sonny later wrote numerous nationally-known jingles for clients including McDonald's, Buick, Western Airlines, Mattel Toys, Honda, Olympia Beer, and Bell Telephone. During this time, he also wrote and sang the theme song for the Mary Tyler Moore Show, "Love Is All Around." Joan Jett did a killer version of that as well.

There is a 60's band called The Magic Lanterns which features a member named John Osbourne. Stickers on the bands cd indicate that this is Ozzy Osbourne's pre Black Sabbath band, well guess again it is N-O-T !!!! Ozzy. It's someone who has the identical birth name like Ozzy and someone most likely trying to ride on the coat tails of Ozzy's fame.

Not only did I know it, but I was fortunate enough to see them perform it with Springsteen at Nassau Coliseum. The performance would later appear on Springsteen's live boxed set 1975-1985.
