On "When I'm Gone" the vocals are over-produced with efx...making them sound distant and draining the emotion out of them...which is a shame 'cause vocally these tracks are damn good...The recording of "Go Chase Yourself" is tinny all the way through...Other than these technical issues i can't complain because you two seem to have a pretty good sense of pop.

You guys sound more than a little bit like The Rembrandts.

"when i'm gone' was on my 4 track..dblr effect on that..my bad..but they liked the initial recording enough to say..put it out the way it is..so i said..ok..lots of things we could have done to it.."go chase yourself" is tinny..recorded but never heard back in the 90's,but thought we would gamble and put it out there as a song no. 1...thanks for the honesty..i thrive on it!! lol, chris

Chris, I can't really give you any criticism, performance or structure wise. I think you and Brad write good songs and you have GREAT vocals. I personally like the doubled vocal effect on "When I'm Gone", and had I been the one recording/producing it, I would have suggested using it. Yes, "technically", there are some things that could be done differently, but it's also a matter of taste/personal preference and what equipment was available when the recordings were made. I really like Icy Sherry a bunch. That sounds as though it came from a record (unless the vinyl sound was dubbed in).

Have you ever thought of joining Taxi? www.taxi.com . They're an independent A&R company that could POSSIBLY find your songs a home. Another place to try for creative/constructive input is Just Plain Folks. www.jpfolks.com . They have a HUGE songwriting community. There's also www.songwriter101.com

As far as getting a LOT of response here, it's probably not going to happen. I've been here a LONG time and I have a pretty good feel as to what folks that hang out here will or will not respond to. Keep up the good work, your stuff is GOOD as far as I'm concerned. Too bad we're not a little closer to each other as I'd be interested in working with you guys. Good luck and check out those sites I mentioned!

Yeah, I've seen that with their critique system before, though from what I've been told, it's vastly improved. Most of my clients bypass Taxi's review system and just submit to the monthly listings hoping for a forward to the publisher who makes the final decisions. My opinion, it's still cheaper than hiring a musical attorney by the hour, and you have just as much chance at getting a tune picked up by someone.

we thought of taxi, passed on it,not legit enough in both uor opinions, but thanks for the suggestion!! all opinions are good here, thats why i love it here!!! ..yeah,gotta be honest about "icy sherry"..the lp/needle sound was put in..after all, that song is older..never released to the public..so to us,it was a gimme to put that sound on there...we are slowly putting out older stuff mixed in with the newer..we have nothing to lose at this point, just want to be heard, thats al,which we never were at that stage when we wrote and recorded them..we have to be careful w/the quality of the old recordings verses the new..only so much one can do to the older stuff to bring it up to snuff!!! thanks, lol, chris

Wow Chris! I'm totally impressed!!! I'm no music critic--I know nada about production and all that stuff--I just know what I like and I really, really love your stuff! I had no idea that you did this--maybe I've been under a rock. Great harmonies, awesome vocals, very Beatle-ee in my book!

Thanks for the ear candy!

Blessings,

Julie

thanks for the nice comments..been doing this alot longer than anyone knows here..that is why it's crucial to me to have you listen a t least once, and reply, good or bad, need feedback folks..really,give it a listen and remember, this is only a hair of what we've dating back to the 80"s..way more to come,we have to try and get people to listen to stuff that only a minor few have listened to ..we're getting older,we just want to make sure this was not a wasted effort..thus,why we started writing new songs again..to see if we still "have it" per say..yet alone having fun again after many years..listen up on that one raspberries!! lol, chris

Be careful of Taxi. I had submitted a ballad to them and their review was "the song sounds great for a 1970's ballad, but we need something more modern." When they asked for a 70's sounding ballad, I sent in the same song and was told it was "too modern sounding". Oh!

Nothing ever changes, Pat.....I used to experience the same thing when submitting songs to labels/artists/producers, back in the late 70s.

Yes, Chris, I have not checked it out. I am one of these dinosaurs that still have dial-up, which limits things.(But I am going to need to change over to fiber optic the next few months. I actually WANT/need to do this, but it's not in the budget yet ).

Anyway, I will check it out at a friend's soon...

Always interested in hearing new stuff!!
