ira
I'd be curious to hear from you guys out there about musicians and songs that you recognize show true talent...BUT...You just don't like 'em alot.No sarcasm intended whatsoever.Off the top of my head....1-Led Zeppelin...Just don't love 'em. Saw youtube clips of comeback in London and they performed great.2-Tina Turner-Massive talent...Loved her legs since watchin' her on Clay Cole and Lloyd Thaxton when I was just a little Yeshiva (That's a Jewish version of Catholic School.)boy...But her "Proud Mary","Nutbush City Limits" et 'al just don't do it for me.How about you guys...What songs or artists do you not love though you understand their poularity?-Ira. boopell
I agree about Led Zeppelin and Tina Turner.I'll add most of southern rock like Lynyrd Skynyrd and Blackfoot. And while I won't argue the man was blessed with a gift, I can not stand to hear Stevie Ray Vaughn, but my husband loves it. angelina
I agree with all of the above save Led Zep. I still listen to a few choice cuts on the way to working out several times per week.I'll add in Mariah Carey, the biggest selling artist of the last 20 years. I can't listen to her and I have difficulty seeing her as a beauty. But millions do!Also, and I have to note his musical genius, I've tried for YEARS to get into Jeff Beck...I just can't do it.John
JohnO
Led Zeppelin - I recognize their talent, but always felt that their immense popularity was/is way out of proportion to their talents/skills. And I do like some of their music, and recognize that their blend of hard rock/English folk was pretty original in its day. However, if I never heard most of their songs again, I wouldn't really care...The Eagles - Have always understood their appeal and popularity, although not the extent/size/degree of it. I recognize their talents/skills and the way they blended country and rock. For the most part, though, they bore me, especially live. Again, if I never heard their music, it wouldn't bother me in the least.Pink Floyd - With Syd Barrett, I thought they were a startlingly original psych band. Post-Syd, I find them very, very boring, although I appreciate their musicianship and skills. Another case where, to me, the popularity grossly exceeds what they brought to the table.Fleetwood Mac - Always felt that the Buckingham-Nicks version of the band was very bland, although I recognize their obvious skills.Others I just really don't care for - Metallica, Bon Jovi, Journey, Genesis or Phil Collins, James Taylor.... And NO, I'm not denigrating the skills or talent of any of these acts - just saying I don't care for them....And frankly, none of these acts bother me half as much as some where I detect little or no discernible talent, and they're hugely popular! Jerry
The Talking Heads and The Moody Blues. Stevie Wonder. And I suspect we are going to see Celine Dion's name (and maybe the Bee Gees) a few times on this list.
boopell
JohnO reminded me---I'd like to add James Taylor, Carly Simon, Carole King and the Carpenters. I never liked all that folksy stuff. They're good at what they do, but it's not for me.

JohnO
Speaking of "folksy" stuff....Please add the list of Boopell's artistes, as well as Jackson Browne, Dan Fogelberg, Joni Mitchell, and the more modern mellow guys - Jack Johnson, Dave Matthews, John Mayer, etc., to my overall list. Guest
Now Mick Jagger USED TO ring the ldies' chimes, but he looks like he needs some Plaster of Paris, and can still sound good.I saw an old vid. of Ed Sulivan, and when The Stones were playing, Jagger actually looked good. Now? Hardware store; major make-over. IMHO
darlene
I loved Led Zep. Their talent was so obvious and their music so great, I don't see them being on this list. Tina Turner is extremely talented, but she was never my favorite, nor was Pink Floyd. I still like Mick Jagger. He's way past the days of "Satisfaction" but I would bet his sheer talent and charisma still rings some ladies' chimes. --Darlene
ira
I so agree with JonO re Fleetwood Mac.Their talent was SOOO obvious yet singles like "Rhiannon","Don't Stop" and "Dreams"...were so obviously well-crafted and commercial but left me as satisfied as I feel after eating a burrito from the "Taco Bell" .99 cents menu.I felt "Nada"!-Ira. hollies65
I disagree about Fleetwood Mac...to this point...I love almost every Lindsey Buckingham tune on every Mac album he played on. Also Mc Vie songs like 'Over My Head' [That one at least] are top notch.
hollies65
I'd say Mick Jagger looks better than 99% of 65 year old men. He certainly is in better shape than 99.9%
ira
O.K. Steve...But I'm just sayin' Fleetwood Mac's stuff never moved me.And Oh BTW...I loved Rolling Stones' early stuff (*See "Paint It Black",19th Nervous Breakdown","Get Off My Cloud","Paint It Black",))...But I think "Start Me Up" and some of their later stuff is Shitty "Frat Drinking Rock" to the worst extreme.I invite debate.-Ira
Laura
I always thought that Led Zep and Pink Floyd were way overrated. And I would add Rush to that also. The ******** of overrated bands, IMHO.

ira
Eric always cites "Tull" as an example of "Hippie-Era" extended-solo excess...and I couldn't agree more.-Ira.
GMan
Never a big fan of all the big arena acts. Give me sweaty little club anyday. Never a big Zep fan.....hated Tull and ELP....don't care for Rush. Just give me a four piece rock n' roll band and I am in heaven!!!!!! That stuff Does NOT move me! Danny S.
No one can make me hit the radio dial FASTER than U2....Maybe the Rolling Stones....never liked anything either of them did.
dianed
Jethro Tull + Led Zepplin = Heroin Music.
GMan
I'm with Danny on U2. Bono thinks he's Jesus Christ and he comes off like some pompous a-----e in interviews. A little too full of himself.
Danny S.
I cant listen to Page's"guitar playing" either...John Bonham, and ESPECIALLY John Paul Jones were the TRUE musicians in Zeppelin (IMHO) (god forbid I should start a war voicing my opinion)
