"ANGRY" Songs Game

I thought it might be fun for folks to list one or two of their favorite "ANGRY SONGS".

Most good angry songs are about relationships gone wrong...BUT protest songs like "Eve of Destruction" are OK too.

Could you also give a couple of the best lines from the song to illustrate said anger?

Here's something from me...

1-"It Hurts So Bad"-E.Carmen

"Alot of empty words that I've already heard,

Ain't gonna work tonight,

Don't wanna talk about it anymore,

'cause that ain't gonna make it right.......

......But I don't wanna hear yor lies,

I don't wanna hear your lies no more..."

2-"Runaround Sue"-D.DiMucci.

"Sue likes to travel around-yeah,

She'll love you and she'll put you down,

But people let me put you wise,

Sue (literally growled by Dion mad )...goes out with other guys".

I'm eager to hear some of your favorite angry tunes.

Enjoy.-Ira.

How About..."You Can't Do That" - The Beatles

"I've got somethin' to say that might cause you pain, if I catch you talkin' to that boy again, I'm gonna let you down, let you down, and leave you flat....because I told you before...Oh You Can't Do That"!! mad What's Up Ira???? laugh

I'm not really a romantic so I don't have any angry relationship songs, but my favorite protest song is:

"Corporate America"-Boston

"Who can stop de-evolution of the human race?

Look at you, Corporate America, you're in disgrace

Globalize; cigarettes, business jets, you love it

Maximize; but you can take your bottom line and shove it"....

"Fooled by the sales pitch for progress at a dizzy pace

We idolize the filthy rich for giving us synthetic taste"...

And if I'm feeling down and discouraged about the way my life in general is going, I love to listen to these lines:

"Big Country"-Big Country

"Pull up your head off the floor, come up screaming

Cry out for everything you ever might have wanted"...

This is a really good topic, by the way! spin

My first (and favorite) "Angry Song" was "Someday" by EC. I found it on the back of my "She Did It" 45 back in 1977. I was disappointed that it wasn't on the BATC album, but I agree with Eric that it didn't "fit" that album. Still, being a teenage boy with the normal girl problems, "Someday" was a great, unexpected discovery. It's still one of my favorites.

Someday

When I'm cool

She's gonna think about how

She used to treat me so cruel

On that someday

Man, she'll crawl back to me

I like "It Hurts Too Much" also...

You don't get much angrier than this...without being laced with profanity. It's not really my style, but I do like this song.

"Everything About You" Ugly Kid Joe

I, hate the rain and sunny weather,

and I, hate beach and mountains too;

(and) I don't like a thing about the city, no, no,

and I, I, I, hate the countryside too!

And I, hate everything about you!

...everything about you!

I, don't like a thing about your mother,

and I, I hate your daddy's guts too,

I don't like a thing about your sister,

'cause I think sex is overrated too.

CHORUS

and I, get sick when I'm around, I, can't stand to be around,

I, hate everything about you!

everything about you, everything about you, everything about you!

Let's see...

"Your're A Mean One Mr. Grinch"

with lines such as:

"I wouldn't touch you with a 39 1/2 foot Pole!"

Then there's always "Johnny Get Angry"

"Johnny get angry,

Johnny get mad.

Give me the biggest lecture I ever had.

I want a brave man,

I want a caveman..."

Which I sing to my son who is on a steroidal medicine which makes The Grinch seem like a Sunday School teacher.

Alanis Morissette ( the Queen of angry songs!!)

"You Oughta Know"

And every time you speak her name

Does she know how you told me you'd hold me

Until you died, til you died

But you're still alive

And I'm here to remind you

Of the mess you left when you went away

It's not fair to deny me

Of the cross I bear that you gave to me

You, you, you oughta know

Indifferent

Don't, don't you want me

You know I can't believe it when I hear that you won't see me

Don't, don't you want me

You know I don't believe you when you say that you don't need me

It's much too late to find

You think you've changed your mind

You'd better change it back or we will both be sorry

Im a big fan of Patty Smyth - let's not forget this one from Patty when she was with Scandal:

GOODBYE TO YOU

How, could I have loved someone like the one I see in you

Yeah, I remember the good times baby now, and the bad times too

These last few weeks of holdin` on

The days are dull, the nights are long

Guess it`s better to say

Goodbye to you

The Outfield:

NO POINT

There`s no point in talking it over

There`s no point in getting any closer

There`s no point in still pretending

There`s no point `cos this is never ending

There`s no point in keep on trying

There`s no point to carry on lying

There`s no point in talking it over

There`s no point in getting any closer

There`s no point `cos I`m not winning

There`s no point going back to the beginning

There`s no point in hesitating

There`s no point tonight

There`s no point at all

It's repititious but well done..

Bob Dylan has a few nasty ones.

When I was DJing shortly after an unexpected break-up 16 years ago, I played "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright" on my radio show. That felt better. The song is especially effective because it doesn't have an angry sound to it.

Paul McCartney did a song called "Angry", on the "Press to Play" album. But sounded like forced anger. More convincing were the B-Sides to Hope of Deliverance: "Long Leather Coat" and "Big Boys Bickering".

Speaking of angry songs by former Beatles, how about John Lennon's "God", "Gimme Some Truth", "Working Class Hero" and "How Do You Sleep?"...? Mostly genuine, although he was certainly not working class.

Closer to home, Bruce Cockburn's "If I Had a Rocket Launcher", "Call it Democracy" and "Stolen Land" all have quite a bit of genuine anger. As do a lot of his 1980s songs.

Mean girl-Status Quo

(Rossi/Young)

Now I'm a sad one, and she was a bad one

A mean, mean girl

I never had one as greedy as that one

A mean, mean girl

Mean, mean, mean, mean girl

I guess she's not the kind that I was looking for

Mean, mean, mean, mean girl

She said I was the first but there were many more

"pretty little girl, your just having fun

you're always runnin' 'round, you're breaking lovers hearts,

pretty little girl, i don't stand a chance

without any money, there goes our romance

She always wears charms, diamonds, pearls galore!

she buys 'em at the five and ten cents store,

she wants to be just like Zsa Zsa Gabor

even though she's the girl next door."

Ya think Harry Nilsson was a little pissed off when he wrote this one? LOL

You're breakin' my heart

You're tearing it apart so fuck you

All I want to do is have a good time now I'm blue

You won't boogaloo,

Run down to Tramps, have a dance or two, ooohhh

You're breakin' my heart,

You're tearing it apart but fuck you

You're breakin' my heart

You're tearing it apart, boo-hoo

You stepped on my ass

You're breakin' my glasses too

You won't drive my car, might be a star

I've had enough of you

I'm goin' insane

There's no one to blame so fuck you

You can't have your way

There's nothing left to say

There's nothing left to do, ooooohhh

You're breakin' my heart

You're tearing it apart so fuck you

You gotta have your way

There's nothing left to say

There's nothing left to do, ooooowww

You're breakin' my heart

You're tearing it apart but I love you
