hollies65
According to this site. They did get the right Hollies songs in there...some song are NOT power pop though. A certain band has some highly ranked songs... http://digitaldreamdoor.nutsie.com/pages/best_songs-Power-Pop.html
The Kiwi Connection
I'm intrigued that they ranked "I Wanna Be With You"(#3) higher than "Go All The Way"(#12)
sterling
Good list Steve. Nice
marvin
Who put these lists together? On the "Greatest Bass Guitarists" list, they have James Jamerson ranked #1.
hollies65
I would prbably agree with the ranking of 'I Wanna Be With You' over 'Go All The Way' as far as 'Power Pop' goes. It may be the ULTIMATE POWER POP song.
Crg2
A lot of these aren't power pop; they are just great songs. I love any list which includes "She Don't Care About Time" and "I Am the Cosmos."
hollies65
Marv... it's readers. You could argue about the greatest bass player...but really...who is going to spend time arguing AGAINST Jamerson.
hollies65
Gene Clark shows up twice.
blackhawkpat
Some really random songs on there, especially towards the end. "Tonight" belongs on there for sure, but two of the top twelve is nice to see the boys get some recognition.
Paul Davie
With my little 'signature slogan', how could I not agree with #1? :^)
Paul Davie
Forgot to add...although "Top ___ of All Time Lists" are always arguable...especially the rankings...but you can't argue about the general quality of this list. If I were stuck on a desert island, I'd have the professor take a few coconuts & seaweed, and rig up an mp3 player with rechargable batteries to play all these songs. hollies65
'Tonight' made the list. #53.
blackhawkpat
One of the most underated powerpop records of all time is Scott McCarl's "In Love Without A Girl". Didn't see "Tonight". That makes the list even better.
JohnO
Hmmmm....I think every one of those tunes probably fits somebody's definition of "power pop". I've seen examples in the past which range from the poppiest pop, with no power whatsoever, IMO, to essentially very catchy, melodic metal. At least, whoever did this list didn't resort to the usual tactic of limiting it to one song/recording per artist. MJ
I can't really argue with the list - it's a good one. And Jamerson is #1.

"I Walk Away", "Can't Carry On', and 'Locked Out' would be much better choices for this band.
hollies65
'Don't Worry Baby' is not power pop'. If it is...then almost everything from the 60s is.
LC
It's as nice list, but these things are always so subjective (and fun to argue about). At least the list-makers venture to define power pop and offer up their criteria, even if they don't necessarily stick to it:Definition: "Power Pop" refers to straightforward, jangly, guitar-based pop songs with little pretension or irony. The genre has its roots in the mid-60s but was not defined as such until the early 70s. Criteria: These top 100 Power Pop Songs were chosen for best exemplifying the genre, along with their popularity among genre fans, impact on the genre, and overall quality.PS: Wendy, Rollers make the list, though kind of low (74) for a song I'd personally rank higher on such a list. marvin
Marv... it's readers. You could argue about the greatest bass player...but really...who is going to spend time arguing AGAINST Jamerson. I wasn't arguing at all. I totally agree with Jamerson at #1.

JohnO
'Don't Worry Baby' is not power pop'.To the author of this list, it is. Hell, I've seen tunes on this list classified as bubblegum, hard rock, Merseybeat, folk-rock, baroque-rock, pub-rock, new wave, and so on. Power pop, to me, is just one of the many pigeon-holes people tend to use for 60s or 60s influenced rock & roll.P.S. If someone really wants to start some serious sh*t on this board, try resurrecting the old "Raspberries' tunes are considered bubblegum by some" subject.....and NO, I'm not one of them! Bob Allen
No 'power pop' list is complete w/out Van Duren (not to mention Twilley's 'You Were So Warm').
hollies65
I see your point...but the glaring omission is the Rubinoos 'I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend'.
JohnO
There are tons of, IMO, serious omissions here, but the guy limited it to just 100 songs....and he really didn't name any outright turds, kinda surprising for a list like this! hollies65
True...but IWBYB is a alltime top 20.
