OK, but I'm restricting my choices to artists, not individual songs........

Any releases by The Sprague Brothers or Frank Lee Sprague (recommended - FLS's "Merseybeat" and "Cavern" CDs)

Jeffrey Foskett (start with "Thru My Window")

The Wildhearts (start with "Earth Versus The Wildhearts")

"Love Will Keep Us Together", Captain & Tenille

"Billy Jean", Michael Jackson

"My Way", Frank Sinatra

They may be a bit too "alternative" but you will acquire a taste with enough listens..... Yes, forget Popdude, JohnO & Pierson,.. I am the "Shogun of Obscure".

No one ever heard?

Beach Boys - "Holland" To me this one is an overlooked classic. Brian's not to prominent on this (except for the "fairy tale" that was on included EP back in the days of vinyl) but the songs are all great and this is their last effort to transition to a more mature band and retain relevancy before they started the slide into becoming Mike Love's touring oldies act.

Barenaked Ladies - "Gordon" 1st CD, huge in Canada but underheard in USA. Brilliant effort that is so much better than their post-hi-it-big stuff.

And my #1 reccomendation...

Moxy Fruvous - "Thornhill" The final full length effort from another Canadian band that could've been the cooler band the big brothers of the kids who bought BNL CD's listened to. I can't say enough about what a pop masterpiece this is. A mix of "Pet Sounds", "Rubber Soul", "Revolver" and all the band's influences. Great harmonies, songwriting and musicianship. I can't help thinking any Raspberries fan would absolutely love this record.

1. Holly McNarland - "Stuff" (Universal) (1997) Alanis vs. Pat Benatar wannabe (Juno Award winner for Best New Artist). 2. Melanie Doane - "Adam's Rib" (1999) Melanie vs. the Dixie Chicks with violin (Juno Award winner for Best New Artist). 3. Sarah Slean "Day One" (2004) (Warner Music Canada) The next Tori Amos or Fiona Apple of singing & playing the piano. All worth hearing!!! Matt

What I'm really looking for here is specific songs. For instance as great as the "Starting Over" record is, there is a little song on there called Overnight Sensation. That would be a Pop Masterpiece. I'm looking for favorites of yours that I might not have heard. I have all the Spongetones stuff, along with CVS, Twilley, Pernice, Big Star and Wilson/Foskett/Beach Boys. Thanks for sharing your undiscovered gems with me.

I figure Cartmill might chime in at some point, as soon as he thinks of something twisted to say. But in the meantime, I am enjoying the Butch Walker CD very much.

And The Flashcubes. I just got back from their 'reunion' show tonight. They were awesome.

PAUL-- it's funny because as soon as i was looking at this thread I was trying to think of a song that "no one" has heard... the best example that came to mind was the song Arty Lenin sang the night before his Flashcubes gig, when he played w/ Gary Frenay & Tommy Allen as the Neverly Brothers...

one of his most recent tunes which i think you probably know from being in attendence, is a tune called "Lehigh Valley"-- Arty has a different working title, but that's the key phrase in the chorus... THAT to me is one of the finest pop masterpieces no one's heard yet... I'm begging Tommy Allen to get it recorded this year...

2. VAN DUREN- Andy Please (the demo version)

3. FLASHCUBES- Tell Me It's Alright Now

That's a tough one. I'd have to go through my record, tape and cd collection. Off the top of my head (and this might change in an hour), "Dust in the Wind"-Todd Rundgren, "Darlin"-Dwight Twilley and "Gentle Way to Ride"- Shake Russell.

"Got To Get Out" - Nick Gilder (City Lights)

Wow, Bernie, what a major coincidence: I had the pleasure of getting together with a bunch of very talented Southern California pop musicians last weekend (Walter Clevenger, Robbie Rist, Mike Simmons from sparkle*jets UK and Kenny Howes) and recording two tunes that will appear on the CD that accompanies the soon-to-be completed power pop book I am working on.

One of the tunes we recorded was "Got to Get Out," which Robbie Rist sang. Rob's major Gilder-head and even used to front a Nick Gilder tribute band called Saint Nick.

It was either that tune or "21st Century" from the same album, which I like almost as much.

Whoa! Freaky. You were at that gig, too?

Yeah, Arty was definitely in his element those two shows. Great vocals and the guitar prowess was never better.

I missed "Lehigh Valley", though. I DID enjoy their version of 'Hey Deanie'! I told Tommy in an e-mail Thursday they should have billed themselves as the NeverFlashTestiCubicles!!!!!
