Matthew C. Clark
I went & saw Ian Mitchell's Bay City Rollers at the Labadie's Pig Gig Festival tonight in Bay City, Michigan. Singer Ian Mitchell had a stomach ache but finished the show. They did NOT do the remake of "Let's Pretend" though. They also did NOT do "It's A Game", "Yesterday's Hero" & "The Way I Feel Tonight". They did "Bad Case Of Loving You" (the remake of the 1979 Robert Palmer song) as their encore to close the show. Matt
hollies65
That does not sound like a glowing review....No Eric Or Woody?
marvin
I don't believe Eric Faulkner or Stuart Wood (or the Longmuir's and Les Mckeown for that matter) have toured as the Rollers in quite a few years. About 12 years ago, Andy and I saw a version of the "Rollers" in Ottawa: Eric Faulkner, his wife (!?), and some other back-up musicians.Marv
Bob Allen
utter garbage. (do, however, check out the 'elevator' lp from the early 80s ...a wonderful record start to finish)
marvin
(do, however, check out the 'elevator' lp from the early 80s ...a wonderful record start to finish) Right on Bob! "Elevator" is fabulous. pierre
I just acquired a CD copy of "Elevator", as I remembered the title track being a cracking cut when I heard it on vinyl at my radio station. It's still good - and the rest of the album is pretty good too. Ironically, it's far better than any of their million-sellers. Yet another artist mismanaged by Arista? marvin
I don't know if it was mis-management or the fact that the Rollers could never shed that tartan teenybop image. Too bad 'cos they released a ton of great music that only a handful of people appreciated while the masses ignored them.
pierre
or maybe it's a combination of both. My understanding was that they had some kind of contractual obligation to play covers by Arista songwriters (rather than do too much of their own material). And, given the sound on "Elevator", I'm not convinced that the MOR sound on "It's A Game" or "Strangers in the Wind" (or whatever it was called) was really what they wanted to play. Billy K.
utter garbage. (do, however, check out the 'elevator' lp from the early 80s ...a wonderful record start to finish) I happened to pick up "Elevator" at a discount "cut out" bin. Some nice pop tunes that have been overlooked. My favorite track is "Hello and Welcome Home".
Billy K.
Yes, there is a certain sense of poignancy of the Rollers playing in Bay City(where the dart supposedly hit the map, acording to legend). It would be equally cool to have Jane Fonda introduce Duran Duran. Or have Bob Dylan jam with Judas Priest.......for the same reasons.
