Ringo and His All Starr Band

I went to see Ringo and His All Star Band on Wed. the 25th at The Bank of America Pavillion in Boston. What a show! The band came out at 7:30 sharp and played a solid two and a half hours. Ringo looked great and was as charming as always. We had excellent seats, ninth row center. The lineup included Billy Squier, Edgar Winter, Hamish Stuart, Gary Wright and Colin Hays. Many, many great hits throughout the night such as "Pick Up the Pieces","Dream Weaver", The Stroke", "Free Ride", "Frankenstein", "Down Under" and of course "Yellow Submarine", "Boys", "Photograph", and "A Little Help From My Friends". Ringo also sang a song he wrote and dedicated to George that was beautiful. The concert ended with everyone singing John's "Give Peace a Chance".

Yes! You get alot of bang for your buck at his shows because the lineup is so good and so diverse it's like several mini concerts all rolled into one. I would have loved to see them when Eric toured with them. That must have awesome!

I heard Ringo was in Toronto recently or CasinoRama, some place in Canada, and the audience was high rollers who were mostly comped the tickets.

Ringo and Colin Hay got annoyed that they couldn't get these fuddy duddys into the show..in fact I was told Ringo had somewhat of an attitude..anyway from Canada they were to have a show in Bethel N.Y. and my friends drove 3 hours only to find out when they got there, Ringo cancelled the show..it was said that Hamish Stuart and Colin Hay didn't have the proper documents to cross the border...anyway that's what I hear...anyone else hear anything close to this??

I saw Ringo at Casino Rama a few years ago, the first time Colin Hay was in the band. I remember thinking how the songs of the others were pretty good, but Ringo's were mostly lame (especially the Beatles-era stuff). Not surprising - he hardly got the best material when he was with the Beatles...but he takes the approach that people want to hear those songs. Yellow Submarine, in particular, was a travesty. It's a dodgy song to begin with, but without the overdubs, it really is exposed as a soggy blanket. He had a good album out then (Ringo Rama); it's too bad he didn't play more from it.

Ah well, at least I can say that I saw Ringo live. He did put on a good show, notwithstanding the limitations of some of his material.

I LOVED the last edition!

Richard Marx,Rod Argent, and Edgar Winter, all ROCKED!...But Sheila® E. ....as Ringo pronounces it...stole the show at beautiful Radio City Music Hall where I'm seeing Steve Miller/Joe Cocker next week.-Ira.

I saw Ringo a few years back, I think in 2004 or 05 when he had Mark Rivera, Sheila, Colin Hay, and John Waite....I think Rivera is absent because he's on tour with Billy Joel.

John Waite is just an incredibly friendly guy..

He played for the first time Never Without You...really a good song for Ringo..but you're right about Yellow Submarine...I liked when he did Photograph and Honey Don't..

Slightly off topic, but ICAM with you, Beatnut, when it comes to John Waite. This guy is underrated and (based on the nice guy impression he gives off) deserves far more notice than he gets.

As for Ringo and the band...heck, I'd love to see him again. Yellow Submarine may not be the most...um..."complicated" song ever written, but being part of a crowd singing along to "we all live in a yellow sub-marine" (say it like Ringo does!) and realizing what was taking place in terms of a pop song moment...well, heck, that was one of several during the show and they were all great.

That was a fun song!

And as for the border issues, it's all about the terrorist worries, and working both ways.

Don't worry, folks. We LOVE Americans, and we're so upset about the passport holdups and identity things just as much as you are. (Da Guv'ment is just as ridiculous as Tony has said.)

Now, THIS is why I think Raspberries should march right up here and do a show! Bring your friend Ringo, he's welcome, too.

Casino Rama is somewhere in Northern Ontario. I don't even know my own geography anymore!

Believe me, if the Raspberry guys showed up, there'd be less gambling and more enjoyment!

Then, we'd say, "Let's Do It Again!"

I've always felt something was missing, anyway. Now, I know what it was.

Thankyou GMan you wrote exactly what I was thinking. I did see Ringo in 2006, same venue, and yes that lineup was great too (my husband was going crazy over Sheila E.!) I enjoyed Ringo and the rest immensely but I did not go there expecting to hear the Beatles. I did go there expecting great music and was not disappointed at either show. I hope I have Ringo's energy when I'm 68!

Missy, thanks for the review. It's nice to hear that Ringo's still got it.... Entertaining guy. There was a period in the early 1970s where Ringo was "out-hitting" John, Paul, and George. "Photograph" has always been one of my favorite songs....

I never forget George. I always had an affection for him since I was a kid(I was devistated when he married Patti, even though I was seven!) It wasn't until I got the anthology DVD set and watched it about ten times when I realized how underrated George was and how incredibly talented he was. From there I had to go out and buy every bit of literature on him I could. "I, Me, Mine" gave me alot of insight into the meaning behind his songs and helped me to understand the man even more. The "Concert for George" is my favorite. Very touching. He was taken away from us waaay to soon.

Yes, second to Paul he was a cutie! I first saw them on Ed Sullivan when I was 4! Then, of course, I was into dolls, playing in the garden and bothering my sister.

Now, I have a much deeper understanding of the music, fun and hard times they went through.

I hope Giro doesn't look anything like George, though. He's married. Besides, I have another guy on my mind right now.

If you've seen his Monty Python "Pirates Song" video, you'll find it hilarious! And I found the lyrics even more gigglesome!!!

I've seen all the All Starr tours and have enjoyed them to varying degrees (The best was the all British band - Jack Bruce, Peter Frampton, Gary Brooker, and Simon Kirke). I'm skipping this year as they are all rehashes from the last couple of tours except for Gary Wright. I'm also annoyed that they haven't had a proper guitar player in the band the last several tours and it shows. I hear quite often how great Sheila E is on these tours but her sets put me to sleep.
