AnniekNY
Yesterday my family and I were at the Yankee game (yikes was it ever HOT and of course we were there for batting practice at 11 a.m. for a 1:05 game and they cancelled practice!!)and my daughter started singing"they're coming to take me away, ha ha, they're coming to take me away ho ho he he to the funny farm where the fun never ends..."I ask "Who does that song?" Pete says Peter Noone of Herman's Hermits. I vehemently refuse to accept that answer - esepcially since the voice doesn't have a british accent.HELP!thanks! JohnO
When the song came out, and for years after that, a lot of people assumed it was that nutcase Kim Fowley who recorded it. Turns out it was a guy named Jerry Samuels, who wrote a bunch of songs for other people (Johnnie Ray, Sammy Davis Jr., Doris Day, etc.), none of which ever made any real money. Samuels' picture should be in Websters, next to the term "one-hit wonder"....
Brioohs
And the song was "They're Coming To Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa!" from 1966. (Since no one else actually gave the correct title.)
