Rich From PA
New album: MagicDue October 2It's official. Springsteen's first album with the E Street Band since 2002's The Rising drops in less than seven weeks, and it's called Magic. According to manager Jon Landau, quoted in today's press release from Shore Fire Media, this one's a rocker: "Magic is a high energy rock CD. It's light on its feet, incredibly well played by Bruce and the members of the E Street Band, and, as always, has plenty to say. It's also immensely entertaining. Magic is the third collaboration between Bruce and Brendan O'Brien and is a culmination of their very productive creative relationship."O'Brien produced and mixed the album at his home base in Atlanta, Southern Tracks Recording Studio. marvin
Last time we were in Minnesota (2002), it was timed for the release of "The Rising." Here we are in MN again, and I find out about the new Springsteen release. Yes the land of 10,000 lakes is certainly "Magic" to this fan.Mar
Lew Bundles
I'm already standing in line...
JohnO
If the Boss is actually putting out a rocker this time, there'll be a lot of us in line! IMO, he's a consummate rock & roller; as a sensitive songwriter/folk artist....not so much...
marvin
This is just me speaking: I don't care if he's being a 'rocker' or a 'folkie'. For me, he's the real deal and no one comes close.Marv
marvin
Just heard the new Springsteen single, "Radio Nowhere." It rocks indeed, and there are parts which bring back memories of "Message In A Bottle" by the Police.Marv
marvin
The lyrics for "Radio Nowhere":Radio Nowhere I was trying to find my way home, But all I heard was a drone. Bouncin' off a satellite Crushing the last long American night. This is radio nowhere. Is there anybody alive out there? This is radio nowhere. Is there anybody alive out there? I was sitting around a dirt dial Just another lost number in a file. Been in some kinda dark cove Just searching for a world with some soul. This is radio nowhere. Is there anybody alive out there? This is radio nowhere. Is there anybody alive out there? Is there anybody alive out there? I just want to hear some rhythm. I just want to hear some rhythm I just want to hear some rhythm. I just want to hear some rhythm. I want a thousand guitars. I want pounding drums. I want a million different voices speaking in tongues. This is radio nowhere. Is there anybody alive out there? This is radio nowhere. Is there anybody alive out there? Is there anybody alive out there? I was driving thru the misty rain Yeah, searching for a mystery train. Bopping thru the wild blue Trying to make a connection with you. This is radio nowhere. Is there anybody alive out there? This is radio nowhere. Is there anybody alive out there? Is there anybody alive out there? I just want to hear some rhythm I just want to hear some rhythm I just want to hear you swoon.
pierson
i heard it today too...not bad, although the "affected" vocal is an acquired taste... the tune itself sounds like his days spent hanging around Jesse Malin rubbed off on him (a very linear track, in a non-Springsteen kinda way)
marvin
And ironically Jesse has a great new tune out right now, titled "Broken Radio", with backup vocals by Springsteen.
JohnO
Jesse M's solo work has been a revelation, in light of his NY Dolls/G'n'R/Dead Boys-ish last band D Generation.....(although I think Ryan Adams gets way too much credit for "discovering" him...a good friend of mine from NYC who's known him for years says he's always been an excellent singer/songwriter in that vein). marvin
You can hear short samples of each song here: http://www.musicload.de/item.ml?releaseid=2792001_2 From the short sample, it certainly sounds like a more guitar-domintated album. Cozmik
I've heard the Springsteen CD and I can't say enough about how good it is. His best in years. The single "Radio Nowhere" is probably the weakest song on it. Add to the track listing "Terry's Song", a tribute to his late friend Terry McGovern. My favorite track "Girls in Their Summer Clothes". Its got a slight PetSounds era Beach Boys feel to the rhythm (sort of like "Cruisin' Music"), a great melody and lyrics that really invoke a sense of nostalgia for me. Brilliant song! Brilliant album.
marvin
Hey Cozmik thanks for posting your review. On various Message Boards I've been reading some incredibly positive reviews, and there have been other not-so-rave reviews as well. The general consensus seems to fall somewhere closer to what you're saying.Marv
