Call us crazy, call us unbearably retro, but we're still pretty jazzed about Under The Covers, Volume 2 the July 21 followup to the wonderful 2006 album from ex-Bangle Susanna Hoffs and L.A. power/pop songwriter mainstay Matthew Sweet. As with the duo's first collection of remade versions of mostly 70's classic songs, Volume 2 has the bright pop sheen and keen understanding of what made these songs so successful the first time around. The harmonies are stunning, the musicianship impeccable and the choice of songs - from Tom Petty's "Here Come's My Girl" to Little Feat's "Willin'" to Mott The Hoople's "All The Young Dudes" - simply inspired.

For a special treat, Sweet and Hoffs (known as Sid and Susie) recruited guitarists Steve Howe and Lindsay Buckingham to add some signature guitar riffs to their versions of the Yes standard "I've Seen All Good People" and Fleetwood Mac's "Second Hand News." George Harrison's son Dhani even makes an appearance on the Harrison composition "Beware of Darkness." Full track listing after the jump...

I can't wait to hear either Todd Rundgren cover, and the Big Star and David Gates songs, but I just am skeptical of anyone being able to successfully cover "Go All The Way," even if it is in a duet between one of my favorite singers and one of my favorite songwriters.

I'm a fan of Sid and Susie. I love both of these guys; I love Ming Tea; and I bought the first volume as soon as it was released, but I don't think anyone call pull off GATW like the 'berries.
