Daisy McLintock
Worst song in musical historyLast night I made it a point to watch that Time-Life advertisement again because I wanted to catch the name of a band that does this really horrible song. It's Extreme "More Than Words." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kt7L4X4li_k This song is a dead song. It has no life! Just a couple of newbies doing a song on the acoustic. Nice voices but dead song. I know Kansas did a song on accoustic but at least they added the violin and there's more life to that song than this one. Kansas did a great job. How the count is 9 million for this dead song beats the heck out of me.This is the song I spoke about on On November 25, 2008 08:00 PM to BillyK and I incorrectly thought it was an Eric Clapton song but it wasn't. My original thoughts on the song were correct though -- this song was done by new musicians who are from nowheresville.
Jay52
Daisy, when that song came out, I took a liking to it because it reminded me of The Everly Brothers. It was nice to hear real vocals again. Its far from being the worst song in musical history. Seriously, why would you even think that? It received a ton of airplay across the country and people loved it. "Nowheresville"? Come on--get hip! hollies65
Those guys aren't "newbies" They're an extremely talented METAL band. Not my type of music...but talented guys...they sold millions of records.
Jerry
We all entitled to our opinion, but 'More Than Words', while not particularly memorable, would not make my list of 'All Time Worst Songs'. This one would probably be #1 with a bullet, in more ways than one- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_uU6aYNXnUk

I can hear a little Everly in there, and I also would not be surprised if someone told me that Stephen Bishop somehow had a hand in this song. danmichel
I love this one...The simple arrangement makes the song beautiful...It could have easily been buried in strings.
blackhawkpat
I have to admit, I actually like this song. It was done during a time period that several metal bands were doing ballads to get money and exposure. I'm with Jerry about the Minnie Riperton song. marvin
To each his own, but I wouldn't file "More Than Words" under the "Worst Song In Musical History." While I'm not a big fan of "Loving You", by Minnie Ripperton, it's not the 'worst song' for me either.

Captain Harlock
I remember that song was a huge hit. Soon after just about every "hair band" had to prove they too could play acoustic. Someone please purge this one from my memory!
angelina
I actually loved this song when it came out. (any guitar-playing lothario would've had it in his heavy-rotation )What I find crazy is I think the lead singer fronted Van Halen for one album.JohnMinnie Ripperton is a good choice for nails-on-the-blackboard song"

James
And "Hungry Eyes" is a good song. It gets poo pooed here a bit because it's not as good as Eric Carmen penned songs. And that's a compliment to Eric Carmen. But relative to the universe of all pop songs, "Hungry Eyes" is in the top echelon, and a really good song, IMHO. hollies65
I like 'Lovin You'. 'Hungry Eyes'...not so much.

When "Hungry Eyes" was first released, Andy (Bahoo) and I would discuss endlessly about the song. We were SOOOO disappointed, wondering how Eric got involved with it. Remember at the time "Dirty Dancing" still hadn't taken off into the next stratosphere. In hindsight, "Hungry Eyes" success led to the wonderful "Make Me Lose Control." Who knows if Eric would have got that chance if "HE" had flopped.
James
When "Hungry Eyes" was released, I'd tell everybody that "Hungry Eyes" was nothing compared to the songs penned by Eric Carmen in the Raspberries albums and his solo albums... I believed that then, and still do.But the song is good (or better), and I tend to defend when it's trashed as one of the worse songs ever.. blackhawkpat
Entertainment Weekly just chose the scene where "Hungry Eyes" was played (with Baby and Johnny alone in his room) as one of the "Top 100 Sexy Scenes In Movies" of all time (believe it came in at #43) and I feel the song helped influence that choice. Certainly not my fave EC tune, but I do enjoy it and still have it as a ringtone in my phone. Loved singing it in a band many moons ago, as the dance floor ALWAYS filled up when we played it and it gave me a chance to help promote EC. Shelley
I really like Hungry Eyes...I love the way Eric sings it... it dosn't bother me that he didn't write it....I agree with Marvin, without Hungry Eyes, there might have been no..Make Me lose Control...and that is my all time favorite by Eric...I listen to it at least once if not more everyday. pretender
I think Hungry Eyes is a pretty average song but I love Eric's performance on it.
bahoodore
i have to say that my dislike for Hungry Eyes is also a reflection of how i feel 80s productions took the music out of music....hungry eyes would be a better song stripped down...with REAL instruments and musicians, and as far as Eric's performance....well I don't think there is one of ECs recordings out there that is not performed with magicbahoo
Danny S.
Either of these TWO could be the worst ever, in my opinion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAmi1M2Vm0E http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UA5MtAmT24g
Dave from Equinox
I vote for "Seasons In the Sun" as worst song ever. I don't mind "Hungry Eyes" at all, as they got the best guy in the world to sing it, but I really do hope they paid Eric a LOT of money to sing "Reason To Try"... Oh yeah "Reason To Try" is painful, but it does have Mark Hudson and Kipp Lennon background vocals.
Keith Nivan
Not taking the bait. When I opened fire on this a couple years back, Eric went online and bought some music by the artist in question and a few people followed.Wasn't the desired effect."Keith"
