popdude
If you like '60s-influenced pop-rock, grab THE COMPLETE PET SOUL by Splitsville. Wonderful stuff, liberally influenced by the likes of The Beatles, Beach Boys, Left Banke, etc. It's from 2001, but I just pulled it out again a few days ago and it still slays me. Beautiful, beautiful music. There are a few MP3's available for download at www.splitsville.com and they also have a myspace page at www.myspace.com/splitsville
JohnO
Yep, agreed. It's a killer cross-breed of Pet Sounds, Rubber Soul, Bacharach....with perhaps a bit more bias toward the Beach Boys.Being from DC, I saw the Greenberry Woods lots of times, usually opening for bigger acts. They've matured considerably (or at least the half of them (Huseman bros.) now in Splitsville) since then. Along with Mr. Keene, the best power poppers out of the Baltimore/DC area. TOMMY TUNES
I have a copy of the cd Marvin sent me about a year ago. JohnO's description is right on the money for the CD Cover as well as the music in it.
Angloberry
Just listened and I LIKE IT! The new album stuff sounds pretty darned good too, and the Teenage Fanclub cover "Tears are Cool" (one of my favourite Fannies tracks) is just great. Why haven't I known about this band?! Thanks John B - I feel a few purchases coming on!Gary
Brioohs
If at all possible, I recommend getting a version of "Pet Soul" that has Splitsville's cover of "I'll Never Fall In Love Again" appended as a bonus track. They did a brilliant arrangement of that song, evoking a bit of Sweet and a smidgen of Buggles. To say more would spoil the fun.
