JohnO
Any music act that chooses to use Wal-Mart as their sole distributor hates their fans.....or is so blinded by the additional money that they don't care how their product is marketed/sold....or have never shopped at a Wal-Mart themselves!Tried unsuccessfully to get a copy of the new AC/DC CD yesterday at 3 different Wal-Marts in the Va. suburbs. While all 3 stores had cardboard cut-outs of Angus posted all over the place, and were advertising the CD, along with its 10/20/08 release date in flyers at their entrances....AND had televised ads for "Black Ice" running on all TV sets in their electronics departments....not a one of them actually had the damn CD!!!!!First store, around 11 in the morning - Per the clown in the electronics/music dept. - "Uh, I dunno...was it released today?" "Look at your ads!!!" "Well, I haven't seen it yet, so I haven't put it on the shelves yet!" "Could you check & see if you have it" "OK".....10 minutes later - "Nobody knows if we have it yet!"Second store, 2 hours later - "Uh...if we have it, we might have sold out already! We probably only got 4-5 copies of it!"Third store, around 4 in the afternoon - "I don't know....I haven't seen it....however, look at the low, low prices on all of their older releases! Why doncha buy some of their older CDs???" "Becuase I have them already, Genius!...which is why I'm trying to get the new one!" "Try again tomorrow...or try some place else!" "Well...last I checked, you guys have an EXCLUSIVE!!!"Now, maybe the release date has been delayed a day, a week, a month, or it's been scrapped altogether....nobody in Wal-Mart knows!!!!This rivals trying to find Raspberries' "Live On Sunset Strip" last year at this time....BUT this is a mega-million selling act this time we're talking about!Angus, Malcolm, & co. - Thanks a lot, Guys!!!!! Tim From Wisconsin
I ordered it off of their website - No stress shopping.Tim http://acdc.shop.musictoday.com/Dept.aspx?cp=149_14481
JohnO
"...their website - No stress shopping."Nice concept, but....I've tried to register there (for the first time, I might add!) using three different email addresses, and I keep getting the error message that there's already a user registered under that email address (!!??!!) JohnO
Interesting....while sending them a nasty-gram on-line, I noticed it showed me as "logged on", in spite of the earlier error messages...so I ordered it.(They still need to see my message anyway, which is mostly bitching about Wal-Mart.....) Angloberry
It'll be just the same as the last 15 albums anyway!
Tim From Wisconsin
Sorry you are having trouble with their website John. I agree about the Wal-Mart thing though!Tim
JohnO
"It'll be just the same as the last 15 albums anyway!"Actually, including live albums and Aussie releases that differ slightly from the US ones.....that should read "the same as the last 21 albums anyway"!And your point is....?(NOTE: That comment could easily be made about maybe 95% of most musical acts nowadays....) hollies65
Agree...you know what you're getting with AC/DC...would it be better to have an album from them full of synths? Think not.
Anna R
Should I not bother going to my local Wal-Mart today? I can't believe you went to three stores with no luck- that sucks.Hmmm...
JohnO
Anna - It could be just this area......I couldn't find any version of the live 'Berries CD(s) last year at this time, either...anywhere in the DC area. Not having the new AC/DC at Wal-Mart is one thing....not being aware of it at all, when your entire store seems geared around ads for it - that's odd!!! Anna R
Yeah John, makes you wonder doesn't it?I am going to go for sure today and I will let you know if I get lucky or not!
Marc Nathan
Release dates are generally on Tuesdays... maybe Wal-Mart didn't notice the ad campaign using the 10-20 date, and didn't want to violate street date... It's most probably there today. I know at last night's Kings game (hockey) they gave copies away to a few people in a section way up high... John P
Agree with you. Had the same experience with obtaining the walmart version of the Kiss - Kissology DVD.
Guest Fresh
Our local Wal-Mart had 20 copies of the new AC/DC album on Monday at 5:00PM.Also,they have an excellent website for purchasing all their products, including many items not stocked in the stores.I've used it many times and found it fast, easy, and with reasonable shipping charges. Some large items I ordered were sent directly to my local Walmart with NO shipping charges. Can't beat that. JohnO
"Release dates are generally on Tuesdays..."Marc - While this is generally true, if you're going to just one distributor/seller, I believe you can probably release it on any day of the week. Also, the one store I do go to quite a bit in DC gets everything on Mondays....but they're forbidden by major labels to sell their product until Tuesday, per the store's owner. Smaller label releases - they usually sell them on Mondays or sooner, of they receive them on Friday or Saturday.Frankly, it would be impossible for Wal-Mart employees who can see or hear to avoid the 10/20 release date....there are lifesize cardboard cutouts of Angus with guitar all over the store; flyers when you enter the store, and televised ads in their electronics department....all hyping that date! I was in K-Mart last week in search of a new kitchen scale. Couldn't find any, so when I finally found a sales associate I asked where I could find kitchen scales. Never breaking his stride, he shrugged his shoulders and said "I don't know" and kept on walking. No offer to find someone who might know, or pick up an intercom for help. And it's not just at Walmart & K-Mart. It seems like there's a growing trend lately to provide the consumer with as little customer service as possible. Wendy-Ann
Walmart is: "The Land of the 'Slipper people.'" Don't be too frustrated with them, John.
Danny S.
Their MUSIC DVD section is FOUR FEET...They advertise the "Classic Albums" series that is on VH-1, and NEVER have them. The "Wally World" in my neighborhood,is like going to a Carnival...every other person has teeth like a bike rack.
Matthew C. Clark
When i'm watching & listening to Music Choice on cable, they say Wal-Mart is the largest retailer in music. WRONG!! Matt
Bob Allen
1. Wal Mart is just plain gross, all the way around. The ones in my neck of the woods make K-Mart seem like Neiman Marcus.2. Re: the (alleged) 'singer' in AC DC. That voice has GOT to go. Sounds like a pig being slaughtered. Puts me in a bad mood (like whenever I see a PT Cruiser). Anna R
Well John, I did get it at Wal-Mart - miracles do happen!! Then again it has been a few days since they were supposed to have it! Have you received yours yet?
JohnO
"Have you received yours yet?"Yep, got it in 2 days, via the band's web site....IMO, much better production than on their last several wall-of-sound efforts, and better songs, too.....
