I Hate Wal-Mart!!!!

Any music act that chooses to use Wal-Mart as their sole distributor hates their fans.....or is so blinded by the additional money that they don't care how their product is marketed/sold....or have never shopped at a Wal-Mart themselves!

Tried unsuccessfully to get a copy of the new AC/DC CD yesterday at 3 different Wal-Marts in the Va. suburbs. While all 3 stores had cardboard cut-outs of Angus posted all over the place, and were advertising the CD, along with its 10/20/08 release date in flyers at their entrances....AND had televised ads for "Black Ice" running on all TV sets in their electronics departments....not a one of them actually had the damn CD!!!!!

First store, around 11 in the morning - Per the clown in the electronics/music dept. - "Uh, I dunno...was it released today?" "Look at your ads!!!" "Well, I haven't seen it yet, so I haven't put it on the shelves yet!" "Could you check & see if you have it" "OK".....10 minutes later - "Nobody knows if we have it yet!"

Second store, 2 hours later - "Uh...if we have it, we might have sold out already! We probably only got 4-5 copies of it!"

Third store, around 4 in the afternoon - "I don't know....I haven't seen it....however, look at the low, low prices on all of their older releases! Why doncha buy some of their older CDs???" "Becuase I have them already, Genius!...which is why I'm trying to get the new one!" "Try again tomorrow...or try some place else!" "Well...last I checked, you guys have an EXCLUSIVE!!!"

Now, maybe the release date has been delayed a day, a week, a month, or it's been scrapped altogether....nobody in Wal-Mart knows!!!!

This rivals trying to find Raspberries' "Live On Sunset Strip" last year at this time....BUT this is a mega-million selling act this time we're talking about!

Angus, Malcolm, & co. - Thanks a lot, Guys!!!!!

"...their website - No stress shopping."

Nice concept, but....I've tried to register there (for the first time, I might add!) using three different email addresses, and I keep getting the error message that there's already a user registered under that email address (!!??!!)

"It'll be just the same as the last 15 albums anyway!"

Actually, including live albums and Aussie releases that differ slightly from the US ones.....that should read "the same as the last 21 albums anyway"!

And your point is....?

(NOTE: That comment could easily be made about maybe 95% of most musical acts nowadays....)

Anna - It could be just this area......I couldn't find any version of the live 'Berries

CD(s) last year at this time, either...anywhere in the DC area.

Not having the new AC/DC at Wal-Mart is one thing....not being aware of it at all, when your entire store seems geared around ads for it - that's odd!!!

Our local Wal-Mart had 20 copies of the new AC/DC album on Monday at 5:00PM.Also,they have an excellent website for purchasing all their products, including many items not stocked in the stores.I've used it many times and found it fast, easy, and with reasonable shipping charges. Some large items I ordered were sent directly to my local Walmart with NO shipping charges. Can't beat that.

"Release dates are generally on Tuesdays..."

Marc - While this is generally true, if you're going to just one distributor/seller, I believe you can probably release it on any day of the week. Also, the one store I do go to quite a bit in DC gets everything on Mondays....but they're forbidden by major labels to sell their product until Tuesday, per the store's owner. Smaller label releases - they usually sell them on Mondays or sooner, of they receive them on Friday or Saturday.

Frankly, it would be impossible for Wal-Mart employees who can see or hear to avoid the 10/20 release date....there are lifesize cardboard cutouts of Angus with guitar all over the store; flyers when you enter the store, and televised ads in their electronics department....all hyping that date!

Which answers the question "what's the difference between ignorance & apathy?"

I don't know and I don't care.

Sadly, this isn't exclusive to Walmart. I was in K-Mart last week in search of a new kitchen scale. Couldn't find any, so when I finally found a sales associate I asked where I could find kitchen scales. Never breaking his stride, he shrugged his shoulders and said "I don't know" and kept on walking. No offer to find someone who might know, or pick up an intercom for help. And it's not just at Walmart & K-Mart. It seems like there's a growing trend lately to provide the consumer with as little customer service as possible.
