Songs About London: Request from "Keith Jr."

Keith Nivan

Recommended Posts

"Keith, Jr.", poor kid, is studying in Luxembourg this semester. In a couple of days his class is crossing the channel to London to explore "Significant Sites in English Literature" -- or something...

So, being "Keith, Jr.", he wants to put an iPod mix together that's all "London" songs -- in the title, lyrics, setting, imagery, etc. That's my boy!

It's early, but I suggested:

Waterloo Sunset -- Kinks

London Calling -- Clash

Street Fighting Man -- Stones

What else?

Submit your suggestions, I'll point him to the site and ask him to file a report on what he saw and "learned"!

Thanks!

"Keith"

Ted I'm somewhat surprised that anyone knows this song. I did this one at a recent Coffee House.
Ya gotta remember the age factor Marv. haha - not Ralph's, mine. I was a fan of folk music 'back in the day' and Ralph was considered a folk singer. In addition to his version I have an instrumental version by Phil Coulter (Irish songwriter).

Besides, it's based on Pachelbel's canon so it's gotta be good (well, that oughta start a 'hate it' thread - wink )

  • 2 weeks later...

I think Sinatra did a song called "Another Foggy Day in London Town". And if I recall correctly, Bon Jovi did a song that had a reference to Chelsea(where Jon hung out for a while).

There is an English pub song called "Maybe It's Because I'm a Londoner"(I've got this on CD in this Pub song compilation)

"West End Girls"- Pet Shop boys, referring to a section of London.

"England Swings"- Roger Miller(mentions Big Ben and other things).
