Poor4Life
I like quite a bit of Todd's stuff, but I don't know if I could stand watching him "live". I caught part of his "Liars" tour on cable a couple of months ago, and he was a little too weird for me. The drummer on that was Prarie Prince as well, and even he was a bit strange too. LC
Actually--I think I saw a bit of that Liars show on cable, too, and I agree with you, Jeff. Weird. If it's the same one you saw, then you might remember the odd reading of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." Ugh.--LC
LC
Well, if I can stay up late enough, I just noticed that the "New Cars" are playing on Jay Leno tonight (Tuesday, 3/14). (If the New Cars can get booked on Leno, then so too can Raspberries!)
Billy K.
So Todd is actually doing the lead vocals? Ric had a really distinctive sounding voice on those hits....but then again, Todd did a really good job emulating Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon, Carl Wilson and Bob Dylan on the "Faithful" albums. TOMMY TUNES
Just got done watching New Cars on Leno. Band sounded tight.Todd sounded just OK.

mannoman
Babysis - If I worked there I think I'd take off that day/night. New Cars doesn't work for me.Todd R NEVER worked for me - same goes for Blondie.Even if they paid ME, I wouldn't go to see them. Well...maybe if the price was right
chris hess
i respect todd as an artist/songwriter/producer.....BUT...he sounds like a pompous ass to me as a person...and if u can't cut that, then all the talent in the world aint gonna cut..heard the new song..hooky as might be expected, but if todd is so good, why make it so obvious to try to be a sound alike of ocasek as he shamelessly does..admit it todd,u need the money and have nothing else to do...chris
Tony Cartmill
I saw the tail end of the Leno performance. Good, but I miss Ocasak, Dumbo ears and all.
ira
I guess this Queen/Paul Rodgers concept has opened up the floodgates for a whole new blatant way to go after the shekels. There is something really cynical about this whole approach. Can Julian Lennon touring with the "New Beatles" be too far down the road?-Ira. danmichel
I don't know how much credibility "THE NEW CARS" will have in concert, performing the older songs...But "Not Tonight" seems to have captured a bit of the sound...and the lyrical quirkiness that THE CARS were known for in their original configuration...As a single...."Not Tonight" may be well recieved by rabid CARS fans...I for one liked the snippet i heard...But it's gonna be a hard sell to many who see THE CARS as a classic band that should have been laid to rest when Ben Orr passed away...And Ric Ocasek passed on the tour. pierson
i don't think Todd needs the money, although I'm sure he's being paid well...i'm not sure what would be easier for him: doing this hack/crap job of a tour to dupe tourists for cash... or to do a solo Todd on piano tour (little, if any, overhead) and write decent songs again... nah, that's way out of his radar... he's a stupid old artist these days
James
Can anyone confirm the rumor that Barry Manilow is going to take Robert Plant's place & team up with Jimmy Page in a re-formed Led Zeppelin? My sources tell me that Page chose Manilow after Manilow's perfect audition of "The Immigrant Song". It's also being said that as an ode to Manilow's solo career, Led Zep will encore with "Ships"....with Page & Barry singing a duet!
LC
Led Zeppilow? Can't wait to hear Barry do "D'yer Maker."
Bob Allen
Todd Rundgren looks like he smells -- bad.
hbecstacy
You can hear the full track of the New Cars single "But Not Tonight" atmyspace.com/thenewcarsAs for whether or not Todd needs the money, check out the post on page 2 of this topic that includes Todd's statement on that question.H
ira
On this whole business of when is the touring group not really the group because the only original member is the bass player......I pose a question for the masses. Are the Beach Boys sans any Wilsons,w/o Al Jardine -but with 1 original member and 1 who has been in the band a l-o-n-g time really the Beach Boys? I for one vote NO!-Ira.
mannoman
I'm with you Ira. Let's face it, it's all about the money, not the music.Just because ya git yer self an outfit doesn't make you a cowboy. These guys should be ashamed of themselves. I listened to "But Not Tonight" and thought it was bloddy awful. IMHO, of course.
Angloberry
I was big into The Cars for a while when their first (excellent) album came out. The follow ups got progressively worse and I got bored. This new track does sound amazingly like them.I don't like this approach though - Queen without Freddie, half of The Who, The Cars without Ric and Ben etc. People just can't let a good thing lie. Raspberries reunion is for real, whole and organic. And how about Todd's fans? How would you feel if Eric was "signed up" for lead vocals in another well known group? Tacky tacky tacky.
