Guitar Player roll call...what do you play......

I gave up trying to be a 'guitar god' 20 years ago, and stuck to bass, altough I have a 10 year old Fender acoustic/electric I bang on for the odd gig around town.

But I do have a cheap & cheezy solid black Epiphone Melody Maker-lookin' thing that I use for the occasional autograph, that hangs on the wall.

My pride & joy is my '65 Hofner (righty) with Macca-specs and serial #165...meaning, it was completed on the 16th week of 1965 - which happens to be the week I was born. Everything is all original, except for the the screw holding the bottom strap post. One of the last ones made before the specs (mainly the pickups) were changed for the worse.

Whenever I play it at gigs, I average 2-3 people a year coming up to me and offering to buy it...including an Australian tourist during Beatle Week in Liverpool UK! How funny.

The other bass (for non-Beatles stuff) is a 20 year old Peavey Foundation with a marvelous rosewood neck. Can't tell you much more than that.

1986 '52 re-issue Tele and a 30 year old or so P-Bass both played through a really old Ampeg Portaflex B-12 Flip Top amp.

I also have a Tone Tubby 4X12 bass cabinet powered by an ancient Traynor amp for when I play gigs.

My most recent addition is an Esteban acoustic 6 string guitar. Shows you what a deadly combination vodka tonics and QVC can be. BUT IT'S REAL PEARL INLAY - THEY DON'T JUST PASTE THOSE THINGS ON!

No Acoustic Captain?

At the moment, no. I've been thinking of getting one for a while though. Not sure what kind though. Ultimately I'd love to get a Gibson J160. I played one in a store once and it was hands down on of the best guitars I've ever played. Of course the only hang up right now is the price.

From Danny - "Do you really want to know? If I listed all the pieces I HAD in my lifetime, all the Guitarists here would cry, or KILL me for getting rid of them..."

Ditto...all I listed above were my current favorite axes, and I'm not into investing in vintage pieces anymore, like I was in the 80s....too damn expensive now, too hard to insure.

Electric: Standard Stratocaster (made in Mexico) satin finish, burgundy with black pick guard and walnut neck. Nice for about $400.

Acoustic: Dean acoustic-electric. Has a nice sound, actually. $200 on eBay, including hard case.

Bass: A Peavey "Fury" sunburst model I picked up for $68 in a used instrument shop
