marvin
Yes Wendy there are many of us who would love for the band to play closer to their home city, but for different reasons, it's easier said than done to expect that everyone can travel across the country. Having said this, there are many of us who have done this, including Julia who has come multiple times from England, and Wim from Netherlands. Funny thing with me is...the band played 20 mins. from me and people ragged on me for going to Cleveland! Ok, that was non Raspberry fans. They didn't understand. But you know, I didn't know they were going to be in CA when I booked my flight and hotel. Then when I found out they were going to be here in CA, I thought that Cleveland, being a home town show would have to be the best! I decided not to see them until then. Glad I waited. Now...booking everything was the easy part...explaining to my husband how I worked it in financially was the hard part! I can't, for the next 10 years, get ANY of BessieBoo's shoes! Oh well, sometimes a woman has to sacrifice! Wendy

hollies65
I read a book on Jefferson years ago.Calling him brilliant is an understatement.
James
He was an apologist for the murderous slaughter that was the French Revolution. This always bothered me about him.But he was pretty great on balance, and I bet he'd have loved to see the Raspberries, in '08!!

raspberrywine
The French Revolution actually bore some eventual fruits as bloody as it was. The American revolution was no picnic. What I loved about Jefferson is he deeply believed in not only the rhetoric of the revolution, some of which he wrote ofcourse, but in its' deep underlying principles. People like Alexander Hamilton and John Adams really wanted America to evolve to be alot like England- just minus the King. I think for as much of an intellectual and elitist that Jefferson was, in some ways, that he deeply believed that the future of America lied with all the people, including his deeply agrarian convictions. He would be totally abhorred by the significance of the corporation and the stock market in todays America. He would be deeply upset I believe with all those who esentially sacrifice their individual values to toil for the values of the corporation, so linked to greed and the consolidation of power. But enough of Jefferson, lets hope for another Raspberries gig because I am convinced that Jefferson would love to have rock n rolled. We put the band back together after thirty years, played well, received rave reviews, established our credibility, recorded a darn good live album and had fun. This was never about the money. It was more about closure. Every so often, I still have to pinch myself to be sure I haven't been dreaming the last 3 years! Words can't express how amazing this reunion has been, and for someone who doesn't travel a heck of a lot; From the 1st show I attended in Chicago - to Waukesha - to WAB V in NJ seeing you, Jim, Paul, & all of the cool fellow Board members - to the Hollywood HOB - and to a crazy Winter voyage to Cleveland...Raspberries have made me one of the happiest people in Wisconsin! If there end up being a couple of more shows this year, that would be great - If not, I have some terrific memories to last the balance of my life! darlene
Anyone who really hears the music has had to know it was never about the money. It's about what they have together, what they create together and the sheer joy of four musical soulmates who find completion in the other three. That's exactly what it is with my string quartet. I'd play with them for nothing. I just adore making music with them. We feel it all together. When we play a phrase, or bow it a certain way, or something sounds particularly delicious and we play off each other, we look at each other and smile, no *GRIN*! Finding someone at one's own level who is a musician of the very highest calibre but who also FEELS the music exactly the way you do (which is rarer than one would think) takes one's breath away and it's a pleasure to play the most beautiful music in the world with them. And we're playing the music of others (albeit the great masters )not what we've composed ourselves. What Raspberries have together is what makes them so joyful, and on top of it, they know this is *THEIR* music they've created, and no one else's. All that was indeed very evident at the joyful, first reunion show. --Darlene
chris hess
the raspberries rule as a band..what more can be said??!!..it's the combination that makes it..another lost art nowadays..not surprising if u listen to todays music..no comparisons what so ever..lol,chris
frankenberrie
Darlene, that was a beautiful post, and why I always enjoyed playing, that special feeling you can't describe when the audience & the band are all in the moment & loving each other. austinberries
back to the original topic posted here, Bernie's blurb on the home page re: "keep checking ec.com for more shows in '08" is why i originally posted the topic & thoughts about how they might be able to feasibly do more shows & draw more. Eric's post clears things up tho' about where they stand, & if you think about it, they really have "recaptured the crown" & vindicated themselves after all these years, even given the substantial splash they made in their original days. as Bernie dangles the carrot here at ec.com, it's clear people would still love to see them back out there whenever they can do so, but i guess we'd also have to understand if that doesn't happen, given the perspective Eric laid out. let's just hope they don't pull the plug on it too prematurely (that already happened in the '70's ;-) & that maybe other enticing opps will present themselves to the Raspberries in '08 again! Raspbernie
While unlikely that they'll be announcing a 30-city tour anytime soon, I think it's fairly certain that Raspberries have NOT played their last power chord.Bernie

LC
Eric Carmen said: And finally, none of us want to go on the road for three months at this point in our lives (I know I certainly don't).The State Theater was pretty much the perfect show. I enjoyed every minute of it. When we started rehearsing back in 2004 it was to play ONE SHOW. We've played over a dozen. Unfortunately, the band wasn't together long enough to have 20 albums and a whole bunch of big hits to play, so we will always be a "niche" band, which is ok with us. That's just the way it is. We've really accomplished what we set out to do, in many ways. We put the band back together after thirty years, played well, received rave reviews, established our credibility, recorded a darn good live album and had fun. This was never about the money. It was more about closure. To "make it" in today's environment would take nothing short of a miracle for a bunch of guys who will all turn 59 by the end of next summer. Apologies for getting a little philosphical, but... I'd read this thread without commenting, and figured I'd chime in.... When a member of the band describes -- in written words -- where that band is "at," it's tempting to read a lot of things into those words. As this whole thread proves, interpreting Eric's post is sort of like playing Beatles' songs backwards: Everyone's looking for clues as to what the future holds. It seems pretty straightforward, however: The reunion has been great, and if it continues in some way, that would be great too. If not, then at least the band rallied for a pretty nice "curtain call," 30 years later. For those of us lucky enough to have seen at least one show, what a great memory! If it didn't work out for some (many?), at least the DVD set gives us an exact record of how powerful, creative, and relevant Raspberries were... and still are. No question, they "still got it"!
