chris hess
any reviews surfacing since the cleveland show?..i'm like a hawk on this!! lol, chris
mellie
I haven't seen any yet. I e-mailed John Soeder, who wrote the preview/interview in last week's The Plain Dealer and he replied they didn't have anyone covering the show. Maybe we should write one to submit and see if they'll print it. I'm sure we could be completely unbiased.
Leff'tHome
Too busy covering Barry Manilow
hollies65
CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT??? Soeder is the music guy...and he goes to the Manilow concert. He picks where he goes...WTF??
AnneG
How could that concert NOT be reviewed? How could someone have missed that?
hollies65
It's Soeder's call...I don't get it.
marvin
In all fairness to the Plain Dealer, (and this is just my take) they've covered the Raspberries shows before, and in their mind, this latest show doesn't carry the same weight as the original reunion show. hollies65
I don't know...Covering a Raspberries hometown gig when they have a new release out...I think they dropped the ball. Just my opinion of course.
AnneG
Not just your opinion --I think most of us here agree completely!!
chris hess
i'm sorry, but manilow over the berries? i do'nt think so..manilow does'nt hold anything up to the berries..his music never impacted me at all..just another vegas showman as far as i'm concerened..and WAY overhyped..i would like to see a REAL BAND get credit where it's due,and u know who i'm talking about..lol,chris
hollies65
I've got nothing against Manilow...I like some of his songs...but in Cleveland, I feel the Hometown paper should have covered this concert...As to Marvin's point...Barry has played Cleveland the last 35 years MANY times more than the Berries. darlene
I would have thought Soeder would have been on this one. Manilow is a seasoned performer, but I can't imagine him covering Barry instead of Raspberries. What was he *thinking?!* --D
Muzza
I would have thought that having done the preview thing that he would have wanted to follow it up with his review. Seems the guy lacks some professional nous. Perhaps his editor needs to give him a shake or is he also the editor?? After all... which is the most newsworthy... Manilow back again for the umpteenth time... or the Raspberries, a home bred act, really rocking again??? Seems straight forward to me. Maggie Clarke
Geez, ya think they could have sent out 2 reviewers in one night (to the 2 shows?)
Billy K.
Shame on the Plain Dealer......in other cities, this would not happen! The Grateful Dead were always a press priority in San Francisco, and anything involving Pearl Jam(band or solo efforts)are newsworthy items in Seattle! What is wrong with this picture?? Al K
This was not John Soeder's call. John is not the editor. He goes where he is told. John supported the band with very nice preview pieces both Thursday and Friday. Direct your comments to John's editor, Laura DeMarco, who also supported the band by authorizing both preview pieces but for some reason decided against reviewing the show. Trindy
In Cleveland, the visiting act is always considered more important than the hometown act by the media.Thank goodness the fans didn't behave accordingly.
hollies65
Okay...my mistake...Demarco is the editor...but Soeder has been there forever...I'm sure he could have campaigned for the Raspberries. Did the PD have a couple of stories on the Raspberries? Yes,it's a great local story...plenty of interest, good for the Berries and the PD. The bottomline is the ball was dropped...I mean it's water under the bridge but if it was Demarco who chose the Manilow show be reviewed instead of the Raspberries, then shame on her. Gene
There was a very nice piece in the paper on Thursday. Especially interesting was the mention of newly recorded studio tracks.
Louann
I saw a guy in the aisles taking pictures with a huge telephoto lens. So where was he from? I thought he would have been from a paper like Plain Dealer. Has anyone seen those shots?
