JohnO Posted June 15, 2008 Share Posted June 15, 2008 I believe I'm one of the guys who was involved in the discussion on bootlegs awhile back that Darlene referred to above. To me, the main thing is that, unless the band itself is selling CDs of their live shows (like the Black Crowes currently do), or they don't care if they're being taped (a la Dylan), the shows are traded, NOT sold! If it's just trading involved, nobody's making money at the musicians' expense....and the music's truly being shared. Admittedly, it's hard stopping someone from getting a show from you in trade, and then burning copies and putting them on Ebay....but a discreet call or email to Ebay usually puts a stop to it.
