New Springsteen Tour

I have mixed feelings about their touring with Bruce....while it would obviously expose them to a larger audience, tickets would be much harder to come by for everyone, and they'd only be allowed to play for about 45 minutes or so. BTW, does Bruce even use opening acts anymore? Hell, everytime I've seen him (which, admittedly, the last time was about 20 years ago), he played for about 3 hours himself.

Also, personally, I've never gotten Bon Jovi, and still don't. I do know that I wouldn't be too crazy about the 'Berries going on the road to open for JBL while they're out plugging their "country" album...

Raspberries has always bordered on the kind of "country" that the Eagles bordered on. Close enough to waht passes for country on MTV most of the time currently. That's the point Bon Jovi is making; they made very few changes to their style to make the transition; and they gave up nothing in quality when they did that "Crossroads" episode with Sugarland.

Not saying our boys should have to open for anybody; they're the cream of the crop, but IF they toured that way, Bon Jovi would be a good fit I think.

The Rapberries doing an opening slot for either band would be great...They would blow people away and be seen by millions! Bon Jovi and Bruce are so wildly popular and big fans of the Berries that I don't think there would be a repeat of the Hollies tour when Rickfors was the singer [The Berries were booted off the tour when they seemed to be upstaging the Hollies...although I've never been able to get a Hollies version of that] Who plays bass for Terry Sylvester?...someone here..I can't remember.

Sorry, but aside from a couple of Dave's songs (and maybe parts of "Last Dance"), I don't really see this.

All of the original Eagles had played in country or what would now pass for alt. country bands (Ronstadt's band, Flying Burrito Bros, Dillard/Clark Expedition,etc.). If anything, they were a country-rock band that later went the hard rock route...and primarily for the money.

True, but Dave and Wally's love of country was always known and discussed. With Side 3 those influences were coming through. While the Eagles morphed from Country-Rock to Rock, had the original lineup stayed together through a 4th albums... and more... I believe they would have morphed from Power Pop to Country Rock.

Would Eric have drifted that way? I don't know, though some of his solo works have been covered by country artists, so there is some reason to believe that he too might have moved that way with them... just a bit at least...

Plus, as JBJ has said; a huge portion of the current country market are people who loved Bon Jovi in the early '80's... and possibly cut their teeth on Raspberries?

"The Rapberries doing an opening slot for either band would be great...They would blow people away and be seen by millions!"

Agree with the latter....but as far as blowing anyone away, you first need to: (1) get people to show up early enough to see the opening act (and in most recent arena shows I've seen, and sold out ones at that, the place isn't even half-filled for most of the opening act's set); and (2) more importantly, get them to shut up and listen to the opener!!! I'm NOT convinced that either Bruce or JBJ fans would be willing to give the Raspberries a serious listen.

The fact that Bruce did liner notes for their latest album means nothing to the average Springsteen fan, I'm guessing. And while a lot of us see their music as compatible, that doesn't mean that most BS fans would.

Regarding JBJ, I'm sorry, but I don't see their lite hard rock or lite country as being in the same league as the Raspberries' music, depth-wise.....and I doubt they'd want an opening act that's far & away better than they are live! But I could be wrong.......

Good point, it's possible, assuming Dave/Wally wound up with more input/songs. Had the "Starting Over" lineup stayed intact, though, I'm guessing their sound would have gotten a but harder, or perhaps even more Beatles-ish, with Scott McC. having more input on subsequent albums.

I agree with that as well; Scott McCarl and Mike McBride seemed to bring a harder edge to the band; or maybe it was simply that Eric chose them to avoid the country-flair of Dave. Whatever the case, it's one o those wonderful "what if" questions that we will never see answered...

"While Springsteen doesn't use opening acts, he's been known to bring musical guests on stage with him when he's using the E Street Band. Rumored Cleveland date Nov. 4. I wouldn't miss it. I wonder if Eric is memorizing the 2nd verse of "Hungry Heart"."

Better yet, Bruce could play a 'Berries tune!

While I'd personally love to see the guys get as much exposure as possible, opening acts, to me, don't seem to get any respect among most fans there for the headliner. I'd rather see them headlining themselves for hundreds of rabid fans who really dig them, than as just another opening act, likely to be ignored by most. On the other hand, if they're getting more money for the latter......

There is a youtube clip of Bon Jovi singing this song live with Bruce. Eric in Cleveland..perfect.

"I once saw a double-headliner-billing of Kansas & Heart ---- both fan bases got along well w/ mutual respect/appreciation, etc.!!"

Yeah, Joe, but the key words there are "double-headliner-billing"....there wasn't really an opening act that night, and both bands were pretty much equally well known. It worked fine with Jeff Beck/Stevie Ray Vaughan, and numerous Dylan shows I've seen (with Petty, the Dead, and when he returns to the States after his current Aussie tour, Elvis Costello's opening for him!).

On the other hand, when Jack White's/Brendon Benson's band The Raconteurs opened for Dylan last year, mostly everyone (a half-full arena at the time) ignored them.

The worst case I saw was when the Ramones (unknown at the time) opened for Black Sabbath in '77....they were booed off the stage early!

I seriously doubt that Springsteen or Bon Jovi is going to accept equal billing (and alternate headlining status) with the Raspberries, though, as appealing as that may sound to us on this board....

I doubt it too --- w/ those 2 acts. That's why it really has to be thought out about who to couple up with. I spoke to Ernie and he said during the last tour that there was some thought to do that type of thing w/ the Bangles. This, in my mind is similiar to a Kansas/Heart double-billing ----- Kansas went on 1st --- Heart 2nd & one of the loudest acts I've ever heard!!

Hungry Heart is the song he uses most for having guests . Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Bruce Hornsby, Eddie Vedder and Bono are among the other people who've joined him on stage to sing it
