Soundcheck Fun

Bernie's gift of GATW at the sound-check revealed Eric singing the women's request to "hold my clothes" in place of "hold me close". The male reaction to that request would have been "sweetie, why don't you just put them down somewhere?" That reminded me of hearing Eric at that sound-check in New York looking to the band and saying "let's do 'I Can Dismember'. All of which reminds me of Eric telling us years ago that Clayton calls his Dirty Dancing song "Hungry Eyeballs". Those Carmen guys are pretty funny.

The coolest thing for me about this clip is that it makes it easy to hear how it was originally written on the piano - something I always had trouble picturing before. Now I could stand to hear the whole song with a piano-based arrangement sometime, like they did for the VH1 performance of IWBWY. Maybe a more Beach Boys style thing. But only for a change of pace - I still love the original!

Thanks, Bernie!

The starter of this thread mentions Eric telling the band to play "I Can Dismember". Eric was no doubt referring to a Halloween lyric spoof I did of "She Remembered" named "She Dismembered. Seems appropriate to copy it here:

These song titles are great. It's been awhile since I spoofed one of Eric's songs, so in the spririt of this Halloween thread, I put some lyrics to Jeff's song title, "She Dismembered".

SHE DISMEMBERED

I went back to my class reunion

I was wondering how my friends have changed

I was thinking ‘bout a certain girl

I was hoping to find there (in one piece)

I walked in and she caught my eye

Though she was leaning on some other guy

All the skin seemed to fade away

Could it be she still dismembered

She dismembered

It was so long ago

Could we ever feel her skin again

She dismembered

Making love ‘neath the stars

Oh, the girl was so much younger then

When we kissed and my heart stood still

I said I loved her it took all my skill

‘Cause dreams are forever

And some parts you never forget

She introduced me to the ghoul she was with

Then I asked her if she’d like to dance

We hit the floor as she fell apart

To our favorite slow song

I pulled her apart and to my surprise

I heard her whisper as she closed her eyes,

“God it’s just like it used to be

I wasn’t sure if you’d dismemberâ€

I dismembered

It was so long ago

Could we ever feel my skin again

I dismembered

Making love ‘neath the stars

Oh, the boy was so much younger then

When we kissed and my heart stood still

I said I loved her it took all my skill

‘Cause my mouth was somewhere

But where it was I did forget

Oh darlin’, please don’t try and understand it

Let’s be ghouls for one moment in time

After all, this is not as if we planned it

Just hold me close and remember

Which parts are yours and mine

I dismembered when

She dismembered

It was so long ago

Could we ever feel a thing again

She dismembered

Making love ‘neath the stars

Oh we were both so much younger then

When we kissed and our hearts stood still

I said I loved her it took all my skill

‘Cause parts are all scattered

And where I seem to forget

Well, parts are all scattered

And where I seem to forget

Kirk.

Reading this once again puts a big ol' smile on my face. Obviously, Eric liked it as well :)
