Live On Sunset Strip!

Howdy,

I just returned from Manhattan and checking the 14th Street Virgin Megastore on the off chance the clerk I spoke to was wrong, with the help of one who was on the floor I found *six* copies of the deluxe CD set and one of the 13 track.

Needless to say, despite having to pay the full price of $24.99 I picked up a copy.

Listening to it now (it's up to "Nobody Knows") it was definitely worth the trip.

Peace,

Jeff

All I'm going to say is that I just arrived home from a ten-day vacation at 3 a.m. and frantically ran into my house to open the Deluxe edition I was sure was waiting for me. When I found nothing of the sort, I came on here and found out I had to wait a week. Do I understand after reading Al's posts? Sure. Am I still pissed off? Damn straight.

btw: the disrespect of Trindy's opinions is immature and petty. It seems anyone who doesn't tow the party line on this site gets crucified or ridiculed. The Internet sure makes people awfully brave...

BTW, I think anyone who ordered in December and is still patiently waiting for their Limited Edition set is terrific. I also think anyone who ordered in December and is pissed deserves the right to be pissed. The Moderators try and sweep anything personal off the Message Board as soon as we see it (or as soon as someone reports something), but we're not here all time and unfortunately some comments stay up long enough to do damage. There is no place for that here. In fact, it is a flagrant violation of the rules. That sort of behavior will not be tolerated. Respect each other's opinions. Play nice. Otherwise I'll have to call a "time out."

It goes both way, TGP. The Internet may make people "brave" enough to toss barbs at (in this case) impatient people. But it also makes those impatient people brave enough to throw hissyfits and tantrums that they otherwise might not. I'm just finding it hard to be POed at Raspberries or Al or Ryko or God or anyone because the LE package isn't here yet. That said, I realize that it's within anyone's and everyone's right to complain about it. I just choose not to. This is too good of a story -- a Raspberries return (and a triumphant one) after three decades. They said it would never happen, indeed.... I'm enjoying the heck out of the anticipation (but that's just me...).

I'm a newbie in the extreme here, and as someone so well put it, I don't have a dog in the

" Trindy vs seemingly everyone else " fight, but I do have a few thoughts on the matter.

I find it interesting that even some of the most ardent defenders of the band and the situation actually share Trindy's feelings, but are more forgiving. They are willing to wait for the LE, or " make do " by going out and buying the commercial releases.

A more cynical mind might find that move a bit calculating on the part of the band and record company, but I'll leave that to be debated later, or not.

As for Trindy, she of course has the privilege of making her feelings known here, and as has been pointed out, her detractors also have the right to respond to her posts in whatever manner they choose.

However, that interaction defines this board, and those involved might want to give that a ponder.

As for my opinion, if I had ordered the LE, only to see the general public be able to experience the release before I had the chance to, I would not have been happy with that. I doubt I would have risen to Trindy's level of unhappiness, but I would not have defended the band or their way of operating, either.

Frankly, the handling of the LE, and the fiasco that was the distribution of the retail pieces says to me that the band, management and Rykodisc do not fully have their act together. If the band sees itself as an entity going forward, they are going to have to get the business part of the organization more in order.

I don't believe this minor disagreement defines this board at all. As a member of more than a couple of music forums I can tell you there is less animosity at this board than any other I post at.As for the band..my guess is they do not have a concrete plan for going forward...let's not forget three fourths of the band make their livings in fields other than music. The music business has changed...you can't make giant retailer carry things they don't think will move. That's the way it is.

How true. I went searchin' for it today in Border's and BB to no avail. I was also searching for the new Monkee rereleases. Also came up empty on those as well. I asked the clerk at BB about The Monkees discs and she said they had two copies of each when they were released 2 weeks ago, but had no plans to recieve any more in. That's the nature of the business now, I guess.

I'm planning to bite the bullet and charge the limited edition on my CC ( I just won't eat for a week) lol. I was on the Raspberries site last night, and it still says you can purchase it. I even started to go through the process of purchasing it, and it never said it was sold out or unavailable. I'm starting to think I might wait though until I start seeing that the rest of you begin to receive yours. When I pay for something I want to have it in my hot little hands almost immeidietly. I think I'd go nuts waiting as long as you all have, after paying for it.

Very true hollies65. I believe some things are worth waiting for and the LE and the SE sets are it. I don't mind buying more than one copy of an item, especially since I play things to death lol and may scratch a CD or DVD sometimes. I sincerely hope the band goes on the road this year even if it is for some limited dates - I can only imagine how trying to arrange "time off" from their daytime jobs and then schedule rehearsal and tour dates must be a nightmare to behold. Hopefully everything will go as planned and we will be enjoying the LE and SE sets next week!

A few months ago, I received a postcard thanking me for my patience and that the limited set was almost ready. That was cool. If I received a similar postcard or email explaining the delay for the limited set PRIOR to the general release, I would have fully understood.

Nuff said.

Now can ANYONE give me a DEFINITIVE date when I can expect to have this in my hands?????

Quite frankly, I still can't understand why all of this is such big deal. If I remember correctly, right after the last show in LA, did we or did we not go on and on about how cool it would be if a live CD/DVD was released? Well, they listened to us. Imagine that !!! They actually listened to us !! And if I also remember correctly, how excited were we when we found out that the band found a record label to do this with ? We were ecstatic !!! We were even given the chance to buy a special edition with tons of extra goodies that will be forever cherished. This did not have to be done for us. They could have just released the deluxe and regular versions in the stores, but they chose to "Go All The Way" with this and offer us something special. I really think we should cut the big boys some slack and show a little appreciation with some patience.

Touche, dianed, touche. Don't think I could have said it any better. As for me, I'm extremely grateful to have this release and tickled to death with all the great reviews the commercial release is receiving. Am I impatient to get the LE? Heck, yes, but in a good way - it's the kind of anticipation I used to always feel before the release of each album...and that anticipation is half the fun!

Maybe I'm "philosophic and drunk on grown up truth" (along with being drunk on the idea of hearing the new release - can't wait!), but I hope it's in a good way. I'd like to think the fact I have developed a great amount of patience over the years is showing now. I'll put my loyalty as a fan up against anyone else on this board, but we all waited 30+ years and I, for one, can wait a few more days. It's coming and that's good enough for me. I know the final product is going to be as much as I could hope for and then some.

Al - you are a wonderful guy to keep everyone in the loop like you have. Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for all you have done and continue to do. The bonuses are yet another gift from you (and your accomplices!) to the fans. In this digital age, the surprises you dream up for us seem to be neverending. New release or no, you're always there and I truly appreciate it. I hope to see you again at a show in the not too distant future.

And thank you to Eric, Jim, Dave and Wally - without you, none of this excitement would be happening. I only hope you are as pleased with the outcome as we are excited about it.

S*

To hollies65 : I guess I should have said that interactions LIKE this one define this board. I'm on other boards as well, and I agree this one is pretty mild, comparitively speaking.

Also, to lay the blame for the fiasco the distribution of the retail sets at the feet of the " giant retailers ", doesn't cut it. The band, their management, and their record company were caught with their pants down on this, and there is no sugar coating that.

To dianed : If the situation is " no big deal " to you, that's fine. You have a good way of looking at the situation, and if that gets you through, more power to you.

However, more than one person here has expressed their disappoinment, in ways ranging from outright anger to resignation.

I understand Trindy's feelings. I wouldn't be happy either if I had plunked down the money for this pricey set, only to see the retail pieces get into people's hands before I got my LE.

People think differently, obviously, and this topic shows that in neon color.

At the risk of being chastised, how bout let's quit beating a dead horse. Some people aren't happy, some people aren't worried about it. There ain't nuttin any of us can do about it, so we ought to quit b*tching about it.

Well, I'm not going to chastise you, but I would disagree with you over the topic being " a dead horse ".

Until the LE sets are in the hands of the people who ordered them, I'd say the topic is in play, wouldn't you ?

Good Grief! Yes we are all entitled to our opinion and that's just what it is - our opinion. We shouldn't chastise those who express their opinion whether it's on one side of the fence or the other.

I for one am excited that the band has a new album after 30 + years. I don't think that there are any bands that get back together after over 30 years, tour and then release a new album all in the span of 3 yrs. This is phenomenal people!!!

If we can all "play nice" that would be great.

A BIG THANKS from me goes out to Eric, Jim, Wally, Dave, Mark Linnett, Al K, Jim Bulotta, and everyone else that has been involved in this monumental project! I know that I will thoroughly relish every note that is played from beginning to end. It will be worth the wait.

I worked at a record store called The Record Den back in the 70s..I was a mere lad...I have remained frinds with the owner Greg Beaumont. Greg made sure he had 25 copies of the Deluxe edition on hand. That day I went to my Borders...they had two copies and had sold both. Now...Best Buy does not carry Hollies records at last glance...my point being Best Buy is now a shit place to buy records. I asked Greg about The big retailers carrying the Raspberries new release and he told me most big retailers would only have one or two copies and then re-order as it sold.He said that's how it is nowadays.I don't see a fiasco...I see the music business as it is now. If some stores were not stocked I'd be more inclined to look Ryko's way. Was there a fiasco? I'd say only in the eyes of the boards fanatical members...most likely. IMO.
