Tony Cartmill
Mr Carmen, answer if you feel like it. Maybe lie down on the couch?... 1. Do you still have a passion for songwriting? 2. Do you think in the future, you will have a surge of songwriting ideas again? (Maybe when the kids get a little older) 3. Since I'm having my first kid in 3 months, Did you find your music creativity lessened when you had kids? Well, it looks like our time is up... I hope you answer these... Eric Carmen
Tony, The answers to your questions are: (1) Yes (2) Yes (3) No, I simply had NO MORE FREE TIME! (Hint: Do all those fun little things you enjoy like reading, relaxing, sleeping etc. now, because this is the last time you're going to be doing any of those things for a long time. That said, three months from now you will embark upon the greatest, most interesting and most rewarding adventure of your life. Savor every minute of it. ec
LC
Tony, good luck with the little one. I agree with EC about the li'l babies. I have 6- and 3-year-old daughters, and they change everything. Everything. For the better. Except you'll be giving up more of "Tony today" than you'll even realize. Just don't lose your tunes. (An old boss of mine once told me that when you get married and have kids, "you lose your tunes." I wasn't quite sure what he meant, but... I know now.)Anyway, in my experience, the kids are fun, maddening, hilarious, and especially enlightening. And in case you're thinking ahead... the second one is double the fun but triple the work! Paul Davie
Personally, pursuing music (performing, not songwriting) has drawn me closer to my three kids. I divorced 3 years ago when they were 8, 6 & 6, and it was hard. But we always had our singalongs with me on acoustic guitar, especially at bed time. 'All Together Now' and 'Henry The Eighth' were always big hits! Now all three are pursuing instruments like guitar, flute and drums. Music is something we will always have as a strong, common bond (that the EX never will).Tony...bring music into your baby's life! It will bring you closer together! We had one with our first child and it was OK, but it quickly became a hassle putting the liners in, emptying it when it was full, the liners ripping, etc. With our second child, we bravely chose to forego the DG and my wife and I both agreed that it was a good decision. Of course, that may have been the last decision we made that we agreed upon...
