angelina
Although I prefer songs to be performed by those who composed them, I find myself at times (usually while stuck in traffic) pondering what ifs.....as they relate to EC songs what if Mariah Carey covered "Someone That You Loved Before"...and so on..... Does anyone else have his/her EC song cover wish list?
Bessieboo
Alan Jackson or Keith Urban - American as Apple PieI am not a big fan of country music, but it would be more likely to be heard in that genreBut better yet, release it as is by EC in the country area. James
"Hey Deanie", by the Bay City Rollers. Seriously!
James
Though I guess they're not current...but still think they would have nailed it.
HT from Mo
I personally don't think that there is a current artist that could perform Eric's music and do it justice. Granted, that artists will put their own spin on the recording but there is just no substitute for the original recording IMHO. HT
marvin
I think there are artists like Fountains of Wayne, the Posies, Weezer, etc who could do wonderous versions of Raspberries/Carmen music.
Paulie Mississippi
If Eric ain't gonna release it himself, my country artist pick for that one would be Toby Keith.
Mr E
Wondermints doing SunrisePosies doing Don't Wanna Say GoodbyeJamie Cullum doing All By MyselfJellyfish doing If You Change Your Mind (Is that cheating on "current artist? how about current-ish artist?) seattlesteve
hook laden harmonies of Fountains of Wayne could do a lot of covers, or write one for them.
Lee Marshall
I would think that Eric would disagree vehmently...after all royalties are a wonderful thing...but I did NOT like Celine's 'All By Myself'. The original eats it for breakfast, lunch, dinner and all snack periods before, between and after.Songs with great lyrics, melodies AND vocals...just don't seem to be a part of the current 'thang'. And...if anyone is gonna sing an Eric tune...one would think that the only benefit from that exercise would be if it were to be recorded by a high profile artist of these times. The field narrows.I do agree with 'Paulie' though...The best chance of 'it' being a success would be by a country artist. Mr E
Covers rarely live up to the original... I don't mind them so much in a live situation, but on record it really has to wow me to get across... Naturally the recorded version of the original almost always defaults as the best version... ...but not always. IMO Nilsson's Without you blows away Badfingers version. Lew Bundles
Jet might do a decent cover of a Berries rocker...
blackhawkpat
Old school Mariah Carey doing "Boats Against The Current" would blow Celine's "ABM" away. I believe she is not against doing covers, as she has already done "Without You".Mr E's suggestion of the Wondermints doing "Sunrise" would also be great, with Taylor on lead vocals!
