danmichel
WC1215...I've heard that little trick done before and it really pisses me off!...I hate it when they change the pitch to make the records shorter...or to speed a slow ballad up to mid tempo...I'm very sensitive to every little thing about music I listen to...and it really riles me up when some over-ambitious hack tries to meddle with it....Eeeeck! marvin
I'm pretty sure the 'head' part of Lou Reed's "Walk On the Wild Side" was edited for AM radio.Marv
LobsterLvr
"Spread your wings and let me come inside" (from Rod's Tonight's The Night) was banned from Boston radio.Dave
Billy
Also omitted from Rod's Tonight The Night on the single version is the girl speaking French on the fade out.
marvin
That french part was played quite prominently in Quebec!Marv
LobsterLvr
Marv, that's because (being in French) it filled that silly requirement that you canadians have about 1/3 of all radio content be canadian.Dave
The Kiwi Connection
Hey Dave...Here in NZ we have that same "silly" requirement. 15% of all music played on radio has to be local content, which can be a tad difficult at times.

A lot of Split Enz and Crowded house, then?
Muzza
Muzza here this time Mr E. Unfortunately No. For some reason a lot of new bands with young and inexperienced players in them seem to get airtime. An awful lot of it is noisey and lacking in substance. Lots of Rap and Hip Hop mainly due to the Maori and Pacific Island influences. The good ones leave New Zealand quickly and go to Australia, UK or the States. marvin
Dave that law exists for the sole purpose of giving Canadian musicans a chance on the radio.Marv
LobsterLvr
Marv, While the 'canadian content' rule might drive you nuts after a while, I gotta admit, whenever I'm in Toronto or Vancouver on business I love listening to the radio. Lots of artists we never hear down here (like my favorite female artist of all time, Jann Arden.)Dave
marvin
Dave I actually have no problem with the 'Can-con' law. I have quite a few musician friends and that law has saved their careers and put food on the table for them.Jann Arden has a restaurant here in her hometown of Calgary, and she shows up every Friday, guitar in hand, to play a few songs for the clientele.Marv
JCraft
Some of Loggins and Messina's stuff was shortened. Angry Eyes and Vahivala both had great jams in the middle on the album.JIM
Poor4Life
For some reason "Fooled around and fell in love" by Elvin Bishop had a verse edited out on both the radio and the single. I never even knew it until I bought the CD years later.Jeff
danmichel
The Elvin Bishop "Fooled Around And Fell In Love" single is over a minute and a half shorter than the album version!

The girl speaking French (Britt Ekland, FYI) has been since edited out of the song altogether. Why? You'd have to ask Rod, no doubt.
raspberrywine
Canada has many different laws to support Canadian people and product, just as Japan and France does also, and in each case I think they are doing the right thing by their people and nation.U.S. attempts to do so would be met with unending litigation because we would have to ensure that all markets and subject matters were kept free and open to ensure China complete access to them!! Billy
What was Britt Ekland saying on that fade out -- anyone here good with French? If it's too sexy for the board don't bother.....I don't know French but it sounded pretty good to me.
marvin
I can easily translate it, but I'll have to listen to it again. I seem to recall some of the words being "Embrasse-moi", which translates to "kiss me."Marv
ira
1-Just heard the full "Hang On Sloopy" by The McCoys on Cable's "Music Choice".For reasons I couldn't even guess the #1 single we all know and love was one verse shorter.NOW I'M CHEATING...2-Anne Murray's hit version of "Danny's Song" deleted that awful "Pisces Virgo Rising" verse from Loggins and Messina's original..This is one time I say "Here's To You"...Capitol Records.-Ira. Trindy
The single version of Hall & Oates' "She's Gone" jumps straight from the first two lines of the first verse to the second two lines of the second verse. Annoys the hell out of me every time. The first full two verses are: Everybody's high on consolation Everybody's trying to tell me what is right for me, yeah My daddy tried to bore me with a sermon But it's plain to see that they can't comfort me Sorry Charlie for the imposition I think I got, I got the strength to carry on I need a drink and a quick decision Now it's up to me, ooooh, what will be I love the line "My daddy tried to bore me with a sermon," and I hate that it's not in the version you hear on the radio. It describes perfectly that morose feeling you have when someone's dumped you or let you down, and one or the other of your parents, or someone, lectures you about how you're way better off without them. "Spare me the sermon, OK? I'm not in the mood."
CubbiefanMike
"Abacab" by Genesis... The long guitar solos section was replaced with an explosion sound effect... one of the funnier edits.
