Brian Mc Carthy
Eric I know you mentioned Boats against the current as the finest composition you wrote as a solo artist How bout a Raspberries tune what do you feel is the finest you ever written? PEACE Brian
seattlesteve
I'm guessing "Let's Pretend" as he slowed down part of the melody for "All By Myself". I'll also bet his favorite rocker is "Tonight".Just my guess

missm
At this moment, I have one question for Mr. Carmen and this statement.I first heard your music when I was 8 years old. It was "Go All The Way". Of course I was too young to know where all the way was or how to get there. It has remained a favorite of mine ever since. Until recently, I was unaware that you and the singer of "All By Myself" were the same person. Knowing that now, I realize that you are one of the most prolific songwriters of the past 3 - 4 decades. Okay, of the twentieth century. I love the way you turn a phrase!Thank you for sharing the demos you have on this site. Though I adore "Change of Heart"...the demo is so much better than the radio version. "Long Live Rock and Roll" was simply delicious! Here is a question from someone who buys and listens to music only...what is the "middle eight"? Eric Carmen
Standard pop song construction for an Eric Carmen song:VerseChorusVerseChorusBridge (or Middle Eight, short for "eight bars of music in the middle of the song that stray from the main themes of the verse and chorus", in the hands of really good songwriters)ChorusChorusFade
