Kirk
Tough choice on this one (and I'll bet it will be close), but pick your favorite from these 2 great ballads: "All For Love" and "Sleep With Me" from the "Tonight You're Mine" album. Kirk
Honestly, this was a coin toss for me. Both fabulous creations of Eric's.
Tony Cartmill
"All For Love" has the edge. Say the word "Sleep" five times in a row. That SL slur just bugs me as a song lyric. And just like Sadaam, whatever I say IS the only correct opinion in my country.
aggiesjc
That IS a tough choice, but I voted for All For Love.

darlene
I love Sleep With Me, but I realized I always forget how gorgeous All For Love is. I voted forAll For Love. He's right--"Nothing really mattersif you've got enough." --Darlene
Julie
"All For Love" by a nose. Love them both, but there's just a little bit more intensity in AFLand the harmony is great. He has that desperate, edgy, urgent thing goin' on that isjust sooooo good.....sigh.....Of course, I'm listening to "Sleep With Me" right now, and man, it's just very excellent as well. It has a big chunk of that urgent, edgy-thing going on near the end.......I suffer fromindecision......This really is a most wonderful album. Lots of heart and soul in it. Sounds as good now as itdid the first time I heard it. There's really something on this album for just about any musical taste. There's some pretty hard stuff, some bouncy, fun tunes, some power ballads and some heavy orchestrated stuff. All in all, it's the perfect companion to PMS....... --Julie
Steveh
Great poll, Kirk. Two somewhat similar songs, both great. I voted for Sleep With Me because I like the melody just a little bit more, and I like Eric's voice in it a little more. And I like the lyrics more. I noticed I ranked SWM #23 and AFL # 27 on my ballad list in July of 2002. That shows you what I think of Eric's ballads! Steveh
JuliaAllByMyself
Sorry, Kirk, but I can't vote on this one. I love them equally (along with Foolin' Myself). Bliss !!

JJacks
I voted for ALL FOR LOVE, but both are really good songs off that album.Jeff J.
Craig Benfer
Yes, hard to choose indeed. All For Love but I'm not sure why.
JuliaD
I do think both are superb, and both have merit for different reasons, but I voted for All For Love because it's about sacrifice, etc for someone else, whereas Sleep With Me is about doing something for "me", it frequently says "I wanna" and "I need you", which while it can be sweet, kinda sounds needy...I'd rather someone *want* me than *need* me, to me, at least, there's nothing romantic about need
Tony Cartmill
I "need" to read JuliaD's post over again because I "want" to know just what the hell she is talking about. or do I "want" to read Julia's post again because I "need"...Oh nevermind...I need some Tylenol. JuliaD
Sorry my opinion bothered you Tony, I'll try to only post your opinion from now on instead of my own
darlene
JuliaD, You've got to know by now that every oncein awhile, Tony just needs some attention. I thinkit's time for his wife to put some romantic ECon the cd player, drag him in the bedroom, and LOCK the door so he can't get to his computer fora few days! --Darlene
Tony Cartmill
Not bothered. I just needed to read it over again because it was a complicated analytical and emotional explanation. I got it the third time I read it. It's called sarcasm. It's a character flaw. Some comedians make a living perfecting it. No offense JuliaD. My goal is only to offend Darlene and a couple of know-it-all Canadians/Canadiens aye? :p
marvin
Well Tony for the record, you've officially hurt the feelings of this Canadian! And furthermore, I've never said "AYE" or "EH"MARVIN
Tony Cartmill
Marvin, please don't get mad at me. I need your knowledge and your friendship. I will promise to forgive and tolerate all Canadians who bad mouth America even though we spend billions of dollars to protect Canada so they don't have to spend money on defense, if only you, Marvin will tolerate my sarcasm. How else will I find out about new/old music to try if I don't get the tips from you and others on this fine forum?
LostControl
All for LoveI love the way he says:"She walked out that doorAnd all my dreams went with her into the nightI wondered how a love so rightCould ever slip away"I think it has something to do with how deep his voice goes when he says "Could ever slip away". It sends chills down my spine every time. I dare all of you to listen to that line and not be moved by it!Michelle
LostControl
Tony, for the record, I got your sarcasm, and appreciate the fact that you realise that some comedians in the US are actually Canadians. Normally when a Canadian becomes sucessful, Americans appropriate them as their own. I still love ya Tony, even when everyone else has given up on ya, eh?Michelle
Tony Cartmill
(All For Love)...And the harmony on the next verse is so good. I love singing harmony to all 4 verses because that melody line is so ripe for the harmony vocal. Yet it sounds so emotional when sung solo. Carmen rules 1974-1985. Too bad he slowed down since. darlene
Tony, With all the litigation he had to become involved with, just to get his song rights back, and other things the music business can drag you down with, ANYONE would "slow down." I just hope that Eric doesn't base any of his cautions and second-guesses on the no-talent producers/managers/publishers/record execs who messed things up for him in the past. If some dumb record exec told him "Devil and the Deep BlueSea" would never make it, I hope he realizes thatthat guy obviously didn't know soup from beans about what WOULD make it. Devil is a gorgeous gorgeous song... I hope Eric relies on nothing buthis own creative judgement and comes out of "slowing down". If I were he, I wouldn't givea thought to what any of those old codgers told him back then. If he thinks for himself, and doesn't worry about being a "commercial" success,he'll move mountains. --Darlene
