Steveh
Lately I've been listening to The Best of EC and I've developed more of an appreciation for Hungry Eyes - it's one of those songs that's between a ballad and power pop, having elements of both. I think the bass arrrangement is especially catchy. It really is a powerful song. What do you think?Steveh
aggiesjc
I know a lot of people who frequent this board don't like the song, but I actually do like it. And thank goodness it was popular, otherwise we'd hear even less of Eric on the radio.
Tony Cartmill
Eric's production values on that song definitely give it a positive edge. So why did some of the Winter Dreams ballads sound a little wimpy? Eric must be still mastering the fine art of sequencing and digital recording. Maybe get an associate producer on the next CD due out in 2005?
marvin
I hate "Hungry Eyes." Way too synthetic for my tastes. If it wasn't for the success of "Dirty Dancing", I don't think the song would have had any success.MARVIN
darlene
Hungry Eyes isn't my favorite song either, but remember that Eric didn't write it--Frank Previtedid. As far as producing it, I'm not sure how much Erichad to do with that. It's and ok song, but Eric's voice really makes itmuch better than it ever would be. --Darlene
mymooladi
Well, I'm with the ones who love the song, and it was great to hear Eric on the radio again and see him on tour.(I missed it, but that is a very long story) I was so very excited when I head Eric singing, when I was at the movie, I had no idea he was on it, till then. So I have fond memories of Hungry Eyes! JUNE :p
Ron Sutton
I've heard two other versions of Hungry Eyes and neither can compare to what Eric did with it. He did a great job.
Steveh
Darlene, I agree. Eric's voice - as usual - made an OK song into what I think is a great song.Steveh
aggiesjc
Hey, Ron! Two other versions? How and who?
Julie
Ya....let's see, was it on the "Tony Orlando and Dawn" reunion album and possibly Marie Osmond's latest???? Seriously, I just can't possibly imagine anyone but Eric singing it. I agree with Darlene. It's his vocal timbre, whatever, that makes this song enjoyable. I do like it. --Julie
marvin
I think it ranks slightly ahead of "I Wanna Hear It From Your Lips." So that makes it his 2nd worst single! Just a coincidence that both songs make use of 'fake' drums - something I cannot bear to listen to.MARVIN
Kirk
One other tid bit on "Hungry Eyes". Eric had to 'fit' the song to the scene's dancing sequence- I believe he wanted it a little faster. I don't list the song as one of my favorites, but anything that gets Eric some exposure is great. Tony- pretty funny about the tumbleweed. I have the same view from my treehouse in Eric's yard. Kirk. JuliaD
I always hated the video for the song, because the female in it had breasts that resembled basketballs, and I thought the whole presentation didn't do justice to Eric's talent, it was more a dog and pony show set to music than anything else... I think EC could have done a lot better, but the music biz being what it is... well, basketball sized breasts seem to take precedence over musical content
Ron Sutton
aggiesjc, I have the Original version of Hungry Eyes by Frankie and the Knockouts. And I have a demo of the song version that Jimmy Ienner sent Eric back in the 80's. The Demo version is kind of a bubble gum heavy metal type song. aggiesjc
Thanks for the update, Ron. I had no idea there was an original version by anyone else! Never heard of Frankie and the Knockouts. What year was their version released? By the way, how did you get hold of the demo?
Ron Sutton
aggiesjc, The Frankie and the Knockouts CD is from 1982 or 1983,The copy I have is from New Zealand. THe demo, I have came from someone at the record company. Ron

Kirk
Aggiesjc, I hope Ron doesn't mind me blowing his cover, but he probably has more Eric Carmen/Raspberries stuff than anybody on earth. Kirk.
Ron Sutton
I never realized Frankie and the Knockouts had so many hits. Ron
