lbigirl
I'm just so thankful for having had the opportunity to get a set myself and I know how I would be feeling had I missed it. I did hesitate at first, not because of the price which I feel is very resonable, but being the time of year it was, I always try to spend on others first. I felt this was just too special to 'hope and wait until later' so I jumped. I would love to see others get the same chance now!
Tony Cartmill
I'm still collecting cans to save up for it, so I hope the offer is extended. Good news that CA CRV went up 20% in 2007 so I'm getting the money saved faster!
Foolin' Myself
I'm with you Tony. With Christmas during the sale I couldn't get the set. I was going to purchase it this Friday when I got paid. I don't see why they can't crank out another 100 since they are just pre-ordered sets at this time. I think the price is fine for what you get. Since Al said the 300 orders came from the websites alone without any outside promotion I don't see why they can't make another 100 or so to make the rest of us happy as the 1st 300. I guess the guys would get a little more writer's cramp from signing more copies. Maybe there can be a thread for those of us that couldn't get it at first so the guys would know how many more to crank out.
Brian Michael Page
I ordered mine the day after Christmas. I look at it as that "everything you wanted but didn't get for Christmas" deal. Hint: I use one of those Simon Mall cards that works like a visa, since I don't carry real plastic (you know, the kind that sends you a monthly bill whether you use it or not). Get just enough for what you need and make your purchase quickly. Someone tries to rip you off, they'll be lucky if they get a few cents. PayPal was a bit of a pain - I had to call them by phone to straighten that out to order. Can you say "determined?"BMP
Paul Davie
Everyone has crosses to bear...and mine was three kids + a Happy Xmas + out of a job for a while = No Berries package for Papa.I'd LOVE to see the offer extended in some way so when the tax refund comes in....hint hint
Angloberry
I think the guys maybe need to be a little careful here. After all, the special edition sets were marketed at a premium price on the basis of a limited run of 300. If the run is extended then doesn't that mean possible infringement of fair trading rules or something?I'm guessing though that what most die hard fans want is to have the chance of having the full concert on DVD and maybe some of the other audio/visual treats as well. There must be way more than 300 die hard fans who face the prospect of missing out on what is almost our holy grail (other than actually going to a Raspberries concert). So why not have a second, not-quite-so special but still limited edition at a commensurate price which omits some of the goodies but includes all the essentials? That way, more money for the band, and the fans are rewarded for their loyalty and patience over the last 30 years or so, and everyone's happy. JohnO
"If the run is extended then doesn't that mean possible infringement of fair trading rules or something?"Possibly, but only if one of the purchasers of the original set of 300 were to complain and bring it to the attention of various authorities.....Anybody here have an objection to extending the run? (I bought 2, and I certainly do not.)
LC
"Possible infringement of fair trading rules?" Oh, come on, A-berry. Is that seriously a concern? Sorry to disagree, but I don't see it even remotely as an issue. No one who has ordered one of the 300 has objected to a heftier run, and I would bet dollars to donuts that no one will. It's not like we're buying this thing as a speculative venture, hoping it increases in value so we can make a killing on it. No, we're buying it so we can watch it and listen to it ad nauseum.... If the boys can pre-sell or post-sell another 100, 200, 300 copies, that's fine with me. It's no different than any band or sporting event or off-broadway show selling out of tickets in advance and creating a new section of seats so a) more people can attend, and they can earn a little more cash.Speaking of cash, the set, as we've discussed already, isn't really priced "at a "premium" --- it's a very fair price. The value equals the cost, and then some. Consider again what's in it.... It'll be awesome.I haven't looked forward to a new arrival like this since, well, Boasts Against the Current came out.... Lee Marshall
So why not have a second, not-quite-so special but still limited edition at a commensurate price which omits some of the goodies but includes all the essentials?Autographed with X's as opposed to the usual 'thing' perhaps? Tim From Wisconsin
It doesn't bother me if they extend the offer once more. I'm sure though once it is done, there will be more people looking to have it extended again. This is pretty much the way it is these days. There are pre-sales, fan club sales, and auctions for almost every concert ticket or new release. I can also agree that it should be a done deal. This was a very kind offer that was extended to regular Board members, and even though I will play the heck out of both the CD and DVD, I also bought it because it was a unique limited release. You take the "limited" part out of it by offering it again and again. As to affordability - I don't have a ton of disposable income, but this was quite a deal!Just my 2 cents...Tim
LC
Is that a bad thing? I mean, if they add extra inventory and that sells out too --- and then another 100 people turn up wanting to pay $125 for the whole enchilada, is that a bad thing? I'd see that as a positive.... Isn't it kind of the goal of an artist releasing a CD to have as many people hear it/buy it as possible?I just don't get excited by the word "limited." At least not with something like this.... Baseball insert cards, yes. Limited-run lithographs, yes. But a CD/DVD package like this? It just seems to me that, if you're a fan, and you've been pining for something new from Raspberries for 30 years, you would have bought this set whether they made 300 of them or 300,000 of them.... The "limited" thing didn't make me want it any more than I already did. IMHO....
JohnO
Agree...the term "limited" is meaningless here, unless someone bought 5-10 copies, and was planning to sell them on Ebay for a huge profit, or sit on them as an investment.
Tim From Wisconsin
Jim et al used the words "limited special edition", and I think it is very meaningful - Why would you want to cheapen that? Having your copy autographed by all 4 original members! That is exactly why it is limited, besides all of the additional footage, etc... In the meantime, I eagerly await the arrival of my package in Spring!Tim
JohnO
Tim - How exactly are any of us "cheapening" anything here? I think the point several of us are trying to make is that we're buying these sets to use them - view the DVDs, play the CDs repeatedly, look at the pictures, etc. What's important and what's meaningful is what's in the package, regardless of what it's called. If they only put out 300 copies, and there are another 500-600 fans who will pay the amount for another run of the sets, let the band issue the extra sets! It's more money in their pockets, regardless of whether we fans end up with a "limited special edition" or a not-so-limited set. We'll still have the same product! The Ebay reference has to do with the fact that, the more collectible something is, the better the chance that someone's likely to try to make a profit from it. And, as much as I'd hate to see someone buy one of these sets to put it on Ebay, they certainly do have the right to do this....

gordharris
I would still rather buy my Raspberries/Eric collectibles, right from the source. Anyone know how Wally is doing?I'm heading over to see if wally is home, anyone want to come, if so, I will meet you over their, bye for now. Tony Cartmill
So this time, let's have "limited" just mean once every 30 years, and print up as many packages as the boys can sell. This is a capitalistic country dammit! And Wally says those cartons of cigarettes aren't getting any cheaper...

JohnO
Agree with Tony....I'm having trouble seeing how any fan is going to feel disappointed with this great package just because more copies wind up getting pressed and sold. (Assuming they'll charge the same price as for the originals, or a reduced price for a package that doesn't contain quite as much.)
LC
Yep. This situation is the exact opposite of that classic Field of Dreams line, which went "Build it and they will come." In this case, the mantra should be:If they will come, build it. Meaning, if people come 'round with cash in hand, fill their order, dammit! This package is sort of a "field of dreams" to a lot of us.... I would hate to see anyone left wanting. At this point, planning and creating extra sets would be a lot cheaper than doing it later. When you consider that the Raspberries have been robbed of who-knows-how-much-money in royalties due to unscrupulous rats taking advantage of them early on, yeah, let 'em make every red cent they can out of this release. If it means fulfilling orders for an extra 50 or 100 or 300 or 1,000 limited edition sets, queue 'em up. --LC
Paulie Mississippi
I'm with you guys, John and LC. (Hell, drop a single piece... the Raspberries pin maybe... don't lose any of the music or video... sell them "unlimited" until a certain cut-off date for a few bucks less... then your pressing and printing can be exactly the same, just don't add the "pin" and don't "number" the followup edition when you guys sign it! I think that would qualify, both morally and legally, as giving us something for our extra couple of bucks... )I think if we are truly fans... maybe even friends of these guys on some level... we want for them the greatest success they can find! IMHO
raspathens
How 'bout some really sloppy-ass signatures on the "second" limited editions? Or, photos in black and white? Then, and only then, would I feel special for forking over the 125 big ones.
pierre
I am sure that the only reason the band would not issue more sets is "legal". While most of us want to believe that nobody would mind an "extended run" of the "limited edition", you never know what people would do if they became desperate. Extending the limited edition could conceivably constitute a breach of contract. And if somebody decides to start a lawsuit (regardless of the merits of the case), defending it will be a financial and personal ordeal for the band that will quickly decimate whatever small return they make on the limited edition. In litigation, you generally lose something even if you win.
