Tony Cartmill
My wife and roomate are telling me they are bringing out all these pop writers to guest on American Idol and the contestants are singing their songs. I saw Robin Gibb last night. Neil Sedaka was on last week. Diane Warren before...They were featuring great songs but some only minor hits from Sedaka from the 70's. This could be a chance for Eric to get some of his classic but little known ballads and pop songs heard again on a runaway hit TV show. Each artist gets their songs showcased Tues. and Wed. nights. How can we help this get done? The shows producers seem to love sappy ballads and pop music. Finally, one reality show that is worthwhile. And Simon is a hoot...Will Eric let another chance pass by? When I'm Cool
Hey, yeah! I thought about this too. Who can we write to? Let's make this happen.
Billy K.
It gave Diane Warren visibility she would normally have not gotten--everyone knows her songs, but not who she is.........and as for Paula Abdul, certainly revived her career, though in a different capacity....so it may be worthwhile for Eric to do this... darlene
I would love to see Eric on something like this! The only question is--does HE want to do it?...I wish he would. --Darlene
marvin
Most people know Robin Gibb and Neil Sedaka. Heck people even know who Paula Abdul is, but, do you think the audience that watches "American Idol" (I've never seen the show myself), would know who Eric was/is?MARVIN
LostControl
Actually, they've had a few song writers on who I never knew, so I don't think it matters who the person is, as long as they are a writer and have a large selection of songs for the contestants to choose from.As to whether Eric would do it - he might be talked into it. I know he's bowed out of concerts in the past - but those are long grueling events. This is a one shot deal - go to LA, film a days work and head home. He wouldn't even have to be away from the family for more than overnight. As the mom of a new baby myself, I totally understand his reluctance to do a concert. However, this is a quicky appearance that will allow him to be seen by more people than a month's worth of concerts, and it would likely do wonders for the increase of record sales. It's certainly something he should look into. Lots of money for little work is not something he should pass up. (do I sound like an agent???)Of course, it would also allow us an hour of Eric watching, and getting to hear his speaking voice would be an added thrill. Hopefully we can convince him that this is a great opportunity. It might even convince me to watch the crappy show for the first time!Michelle
Billy
Sounds like a good idea if there is some new music to promote also.
Tony Cartmill
It would sure be nice to hear "She Remembered", "Boats Against The Current", "I'm Through With Love", "All For Love" and others showcased before a new generation of pop fans. Most of the singers in the later rounds have the talent to do those songs justice.
Guest
what song should eric perform on american idol?
Julie
I don't watch the show, so don't know what style of song they would want Eric to do. I would love to hear him do "The Way We Used To Be". I think this song needs some serious exposure. I loved it the moment I first heard it and only love it all the more now. It is a beautiful, timeless song that has great potential if only it were spot-lighted and promoted in the right way. What a great platform to spotlight it on! --Julie
marvin
Don't know anything about "American Idol", but, I've got to agree with Julie about "The Way...." I've never understood what the fascination is with "She Remembered" (including Eric's feelings about the song) because in my opinion, the melody of "The Way..." far outshines that of "She Remembered."MARVIN
Kirk
Hey, just curious- does anybody elses vinyl copy of "The Way We Used To Be" sound distorted? My cd copy is o.k.--Kirk.
Tony Cartmill
Yes, My record distorts on "It's not too late for you and me", but so does my CD. It was recorded too hot in the studio and they just left it in, I guess...
Tony Cartmill
I think the orchestra mix by Bob Guadio? (the Four Seasons guy) gives "She Remembered" an extra pretty boost. Use that same type of mix on "Devil And the Deep Blue Sea" and you have another Carmen Classic! (If he would just get off his butt...) darlene
Marvin, I just love the melody of "She Remembered"and it's always been my favorite EC song. The WayWe Used to Be is great, but the melody is repetitive and although very beautiful, a little more predictable. "She Remembered" is just sopassionate in a very wistful, poignant way.And..."Dreams are forever and some things you never forget" is just the most beautiful phrase inthe entire English language to me. It just sums up the human condition. I think if Shakespeare were here, even HE would love that line. --Darlene
marvin
Darlene I won't criticize you or any others for liking "She Remembered." It's just that I feel that "TWWUtB" is a melodically stronger song. What makes music so wonderful is that just about everyone has a different opinion, and likes/dislikes can vary incredibly. The important thing is to value each person's opinion whether or not you agree - this should be the case with everything in life not just music. Craig Benfer
Sometimes I find it odd that music tastes can be so different, especially among fans of a particular artist. I never cared much for "She Remembered", but on the other hand "The Way We Used To Be" is among my favorites. Go figure.
marvin
Good point Craig - and Eric doesn't even have a large catalog (relatively speaking) of music. You should check out the diverse opinions among Springsteen fans!MARVIN
darlene
Marvin and Craig, The greatest thing about the ECwebsite is that the people are so wonderful. Everyone I have met is very respectful of others'opinions, even if they don't agree. One thing wecan all agree on--we LOVE Eric's music! --Darlene
