marvin
Michelle the correspondence that I've been exchanging with Tommy has centered around the qualities of the song and not really about how it happened to fall into Bernie's lap. I will say that Tommy was just as shocked as Bernie about their good fortune. Marvin
darlene
I think it was one of the Julias who loved the intro. --D
darlene
Having met Bernie, I can verify that he's truly a "glass half full" guy. He's enthusiastic, happy and grateful for all that he has--truly a pleasure to know. I think Eric is also a "glass half full" guy, except when he evaluates his own voice or his own creations--then his perception goes off (which is really strange, because he's "right-on" about virtually everything else!) and he probably becomes a "glass nearly-empty" guy. When he's creating, I think he's optimistic and just does it, and that's why his stuff is so great.I'm thankful he doesn't think like Marvin when he's writing, because we would have nothing if he did.Marvin, I luv ya to death, as we all do. Being a pessimist doesn't make you the least bit less lovable. But you DO think "glass half-empty." I sometimes do, especially in evaluating my own work (or even DOING it sometimes--that's the perennial perfectionist problem!), but I really try to ladle lemonade when I catch myself doing it. --Darlene
Zuke
Thanks MYMOOLADI,But it always opens with QUICKTIME.What's the trick to open from REALPLAYER.Do I need to disable QUICKTIME or what?Zuke
Gregkevinw
great idea about beating marvin, bernie (and i like marvin!)....i knew you would turn to the darkside .....i'll bring the hockey sticks!!!!now to defend my pal marvin....please don't confuse personal preference with quality. NSD is obviously a quality song, and bernie and gang did a great job with it. marvins statements re: harmonies...is his personal preference...i would have added something to the bridge which i think is very strong...BUT THIS IN NO WAY KNOCKS what bernie has done....obviously we are all on this website because eric meets more of what each of us wants in a song than any other artist.it just amazes me that this song was not included on WD........eric stinks at picking out his own material!!!!!! this song is miles ahead of a "walk away renee" or "caroline nO" IMOgreg
marvin
Me a pessimist? More like a realist, thank you. And Bernie I'm game for meeting outside of Vintage Vinyl. How will I recognize the gang? Oh yeah they'll be the ones waving their copies of "WD" at me. Marvin
marvin
Greg even though I don't like "NSD" or for that matter most of "WD" (notice I didn't say "all of WD" - maybe I'm seeing the light or maybe I'm scared of being assaulted by Bernie's angry mob!), it boggles my mind why Eric would choose cover songs instead of his own material. God knows that he's got enough songs hidden in people's garages to fill out a cd or two.Marvin
Tony Cartmill
Oh God, I'm seeing a scene like something out of West Side Story in front of Vintage Vinyl with the EC.com street gang surrounding poor Marvin. But when they are doing their little finger-snapping choreography dance, Marvin will just sneak by...Watch out Snoop Dog and your Gangsta-Rapper posse,The EC.com Pasty White Boys are moving in on your turf

mannoman
Folks, if this has been posted I missed it, but here's how I got around the QuickTime player download issue.Load Windows Media PlayerClick: FILEClick:OPEN URLtype(or paste):http://www.ericcarmen.com/neversaydie.mp3Click: FILE then,SAVE MEDIA AS - and put in the folder where you want it.I think that should do it. Bernie if this is redundant just delete the post.
blackhawkpat
Just for a demographic thought, my eighteen year old daughter has been working on downloading this song for me all afternoon. After listening to the song a few times until she got the download to work properly, she remarked, "hey, dad, I may download this song for myself, this is really catchy, I can't stop singing it."YES! Success as a parent! LOL
marlene
Very cool that your 18 year old likes NSD !! I had a "sort of" similar experience today....I had a meeting with one of the most stuffy and aloof pulmonologists in our division in my office . How can i describe him ? Well, for instance, he's been dubbed "Dr. Personality" by the staff and residents...mainly because he doesn't seem to have one...his people skills kind of stink !(I know that sounds mean, but I don't really mean it, just trying to give you a clear image of him) Anyway, he arrived a bit early and i was finishing up a call with a patient with Never Say Die playing on my computer...(one of several times i listened today) and out of the corner of my eye, i could see him tapping his foot and his pen to the beat...really getting into the song. I've never even seen so much as a change of expression on his face before....honestly....and it made me smile on the inside...who could have guessed he'd have such great musical taste ?? Julie
Well, I gotta tell you that NSD passed my "cat test". (Ya, I know how weird that sounds). As some of you may or may not know, I take my cat to work with me everyday--he's a therapy cat at the care facility where I work. Anyway, he's a hyper-intelligent cat (does tricks, walks on a leash, likes having a bath, loves riding in the car--just not a typical "cat" at all) and he has excellent taste in music and really "digs" (not in the litter box though --Julie
darlene
Wild Wild Heart sounds like the perfect song for Marlene's pulmonologist. Maybe he would like it better as "Wild wild heart and lungs," but I think Marlene has discovered the guy's human side! If you're single, Marlene, and this guy is also, just maybe there are some possibilities here. --Darlene
mymooladi
Manoman, I found that when I tried it that way I found that it was only a pointer. Meaning it goes off and get the infomation from the web. Check to see how big your file is to be sure. I could be wrong, but I wouldn't want you to be without the song. June
mymooladi
I want to thank Eric for the greatest birthday present! It was a super SURPRISE!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!Love, June
marlene
lol....Well, I'm happily married, Darlene....but I loved your new title for "Wild, Wild Heart"...and if there ARE any single women here who'd like a real CHALLENGE...I'll be happy to introduce you to Dr. Personality....there could be a really fun person in there somewhere..after all, he DOES like Eric's music. and Julie....I don't think you're crazy at all. I love my little furry companions. And i agree that you can "tune in" (sorry) to their moods. That's a cute story about your kitty liking NSD. I'm sure he/she brings your patients lots of enjoyment. bahoodore
well,....I just came back vacation...Bernie, thanks for posting this tune...here are my comments on a few issues:Marvin: I gather from your comments that you are meeting the gang?...cool! they're gonna love you man!The Tune: The intro is weak, but only because of the cheesy keyboard sound (or is that a really bad bass sound?)with all those overtones fluttering about...but then ECs voice comes in and ROOOOOOOOCKS!!!This is by far, the best song I have heard from EC in WAY TOO LONG. I love the guitar work, it is tasty and non-intrusive...the bridge is healthy, but is comes in without fanfare...a short musical interlude would have prepared the listener and made a bigger splash. Eric's vocal is outstanding...I must say that his voice actually resembles David Cassdy's on the soft spots...this really freaked me out...Bernie..who suggested the echo on EC's voice at 3:55 on "never say die" at the end of the song?...this kind of technique is one of my pet peeves...I say let the singer, especially one with EC's talent, do his thang...the echo cheapens the vocal performance and is sometimes used to disguise a flat note.....the guitar harmony guitar interlude is absolutely wonderful!!!! the outro is good, and it's good to hear a few ERIC Carmenisms there in the outro...the stutter and swagger in the voice.I think this song is overall great. The guitars did a wonderful job adding voicing that bordered on vocal harmonies, and that saved song from NOT absolutely needing harmonies. If harmonies where existant, then the guitarts would have HAD to have been totally different.Marvin...I've known you for a long long time, and your standards are pretty high....but hti tune is A-OKBahoo
The NH Bushman
Bernie, everyone's a freaking critic (to which I used to say "where's your record dude?")I just want to say "nice work man." Along with a heart-felt thank-you.
The NH Bushman
Guess I'm the lone dissenter. Oh well. I'm getting used to it. I was very happy to correspond with Tommy Allen and get his point of view to see whether or not I was missing something.Marvin What did you learn? marvin
Mike, Tommy explained what the original demo sounded like and how Bernie and the gang pieced things together. He was very informative and agreed with some of my comments about the song.I'm glad that people like the song and hopefully it will encourage Eric...and I'll keep giving it a chance.Marvin
Raspbernie
I get criticized every day on my job. I'm used to it. I'm fine with it. And can actually find myself agreeing with an awful lot of it. Helping bring this song to all of you was just a fun little project for everyone involved. As Tommy Allen put it, it's "what we did this summer." :-)As for the upcoming book, well, I've been bleeding steadily on that baby for OVER two years. Read it. Caress it. Enjoy it. Look at the purty pictures. Imagine life without EricCarmen.com -- no Message Board, no news, no "Never Say Die" and no 432-page hardcover book. In other words, hug the book, be happy and play nice, or I might find myself joining Mary-Kate Olsen in re-hab. Maybe she'll let me eat her Jell-o.Bernie
Poor4Life
I sure dont want to step on anyone's toes,'cause there's some fine people here, but I gotta rush to Bernie's defense. The man's obviously worked hard. Instead of critizing minor flaws with the song (which I don't see) we should all be praising him. He didn't HAVE to do it. This is one of the most enjoyable sites that I have joined, thanks to Bernie. He didn't HAVE to do it. He's made free downloads available to everyone that bought the book. He didn't HAVE to do it. Now we have what sounds like a wonderful book coming to us, are we going to critize that too? Again, He didn't HAVE to do it. I'm just thrilled that we get to hear a song that's never been heard before, Hell, I would have been happy if it was Eric singing "Happy Birthday" to himself at this point! LOL. Sorry,I had to stick my 2 cents in. Please, I'm not picking on anyone in particular, I just think this needed to be said.Bernie, you ROCK!Peace,Jeff
aggiesjc
Bernie, I agree with Bushman about the critics, and also want to thank you for your hard work with all of your EC endeavors. Book Day is fast approaching, and this "new" song is icing on the cake.Jennifer
