The NH Bushman
I go away to Borneo for 5 days and look what happens! lol
The NH Bushman
I'm less interested in getting my hands on more of Eric's songs and more interested in him finding the inspiration to dust some off himself :-) Bernie, give me 5 mins with him. Motivation is what I do. Singers are in their own world, even if they are also writers. Singers have to use both sides of the brain when recording and its nothing like playing guitar, writing or mixing - totally unique.

LostControl
We weren't able to download the song, but having a husband who's a computer engineer - we have our ways. You'll have to add another number to the tally of people who now have a copy of the song, Bernie.Like Marvin, I'm skeptical. Yes, I've listened to the song, and I'm just as excited as the rest of you - but we're talking about something that was done back in the '90s. For those of you still raving about "Cindy in the Wind", it's a heck of a lot older. Even the photo on the website is 4-5 years old. None of this is 'new', and it doesn't look like Eric is rushing back at high speed to record anything. Praise to Bernie for taking an old tape and making it into a song that's good enough to be played on the radio. The big question we should all be asking is why Eric wouldn't want to go back and re-record this song to make it the best song it can be. Bernie was truly working with a handicap - not being able to get the singer to take more 'takes'. If Eric was dead, I could understand, but as Bernie had to talk to Eric about getting his authorization to work on the song, why not go to the studio with Bernie et al and put down the vocals he wanted. It's obvious he wasn't happy with them when they were recorded, or they wouldn't have sat around for a number of years in a garage.Just my thoughts.... marvin
Bernie and friends have to be applauded for their efforts, but my gut instinct tells me that Eric was never enamored with the song to begin with and that's why it's been lying around all these years. Bernie you know more of the facts than I do, so pls correct me if I'm making any false statements. It's certainly nice to hear Eric's voice anytime - and especially on something that most of us have never heard before - but I guess I'm more curious as to why this song was resurrected as opposed to some other song. Was it because of the mysterious nature of how the song landed in your lap? I am guessing that Eric has many other unreleased songs in demo stages, so why re-work "Never Say Die"? Believe me I am not trying to ruin a good thing or to rain on anyone's parade, I just know that there are other EC songs out there that are equally deserving of the accolades that "NSD" is now receiving.Marvin (still listening to "NSD" and hoping that I'll grow to like it)

marvin
Well look at that? I just received a personal email from Tommy Allen in response to some of my comments. Marvin
Raspbernie
Marvin--No doubt some of your questions are being asked with good intentions and I would probably be hard-pressed to not agree with much of your criticism but sometimes you gotta just sit back, relax and be a 'glass half-full' guy instead of a 'glass half-empty' guy if you know what I mean.I just flew from New York to Los Angeles and back and on the return trip set my iPod to REPEAT: ONE and then played "Never Say Die." So by my quick calculations, (the 4-1/2 or so hour flight divided by the 4 minute tune) means I listened to "Never Say Die" about 67 times straight. And you know what? It sounded just as good the last time as the first time.Bernie (a 'glass half-full' guy)
LobsterLvr
Bravo Bernie & Team."It takes a lot to keep love alive"But somehow you keep finding new ways to our hearts pumping.Thanks.Dave (aka lobsterlvr)
Craig Benfer
Bernie, I feel indebted to you for what have you done for us by giving us this tremendous treat. I also greatly appreciate the work done by those involved in the studio, AND a big thanks to Eric for allowing us to hear it. (my glass is way more than half full on this one)
marvin
Thanks Bernie and pls don't be offended by my remarks. I'll agree that maybe I'm a glass "half-empty" guy, but you have a much more vested interest in this as well as a personal involvement. As a result, you are also less likely to be impartial. No offence.Marvin
MAM
Hell, my glass is running over most of the time. Maybe I gotta stop drinking Darlene's lemonade! But wait, I like it this way.
marvin
Yes I realize that I'm the cynical/sceptical guy on this board, but someone's got to keep all of you grounded! Bernie I'm actually a really nice guy (so they tell me and you'll see for yourself next month) who just happens to love Eric's music so much, that I refuse to settle for anything but the best.Marvin
Matthew C. Clark
I also posted on the song "Never Say Die" at: www.amcorner.com (A&M Records) on "A Small Circle Of Friends: The A&M Forum" so check that out. Matt
marvin
Way to go Matt! The more people that hear of this, the more that will realize that Eric is still a viable artist.Marvin
mymooladi
I also had a hard time saving the song till I went to Real Time Player. You can download it free from the internet. There was no way I loosing this song, my husband and I worked till late last night till we found a way, just in case Bernie took it off today. (I never know how long he will leave things up for) I didn't want to take any chances with this prize!! Bernie, I believe the majority here appreciate all your dedication and hard work you give to Eric and all of us. We wouldn't have any of this without you. Thanks seems pretty empty right now compared to a new song, a new book, and all the other goodies we have gotten. It must have taken up hours and hours of your time. But thanks, and dare I say keep them coming! June
Raspbernie
With all of the excitement over "Never Say Die" I certainly plan on turning the heat waaaay back up on the book next week. I received a finished hardcover book with the gold ERIC CARMEN logo stamped on the book's cover yesterday and was so giddy over how GREAT it looked that I carried around with me all day :-)Bernie
Tony Cartmill
Finally had the chance to listen to the song only once this morning before work. I must upgrade to hi-speed connection at home. Very good song for a throw away. Great production. Bernie and the boys can produce my songs anytime. Need more listens tonight. One old 'berries type guitar was a bit twangy in the mix on one part and it stood out too much for a moment. But other than that, it seems the quality production took a good EC song and bumped it up to a very good one.Kyle Vincent's "Never Say Die" has a bit stronger chorus. Tony Cartmill
...And we do need grumpy Marvin to help keep most of the "Lemonade Lemmings" from going over the cliff...
marvin
Guess I'm the lone dissenter. Oh well. I'm getting used to it. I was very happy to correspond with Tommy Allen and get his point of view to see whether or not I was missing something.Marvin
aggiesjc
I've read a couple of posts here that seem to allude to the fact that the story of how this song was found may be reaching the general public via radio, or other methods beyond EC.com. Are we at EC.com the only ones who know about this story?
marvin
Wow, just for me?! I feel honored! Aug 6th - 13th are the dates.Marvin
LostControl
Makes me want to plan my next vacation in the vicinity of Bernie's house, so we can all get togehter too!BTW Marvin, can you give us Tommy Allen's opinions regarding the whole 'missing tape' affair? It would be interesting to hear the point of view of another who was there and knows the whole story.
Raspbernie
Here's what I have planned. We all pile into a bunch of cars and start our day by visiting Vintage Vinyl to check out their cool CD selection. Then, outside in the parking lot, we hold Marvin down and take turns beating him senseless with our newly bought copies of WINTER DREAMS.:-)Bernie
