marvin
It certainly is a great performance by Eric. Is there any video that captures more of the band? I'd love to see Davey Johnstone playing. What I meant by 'connecting with an audience' was, an artist's ability (in concert) to tell a story within a song, and then connect that song to spoken words that made every one of those people in the audience feel that the artist was speaking specifically to him/her. No one does that better than you-know-who.Marvin

DeanTylerVO
Bernie, Thanks so much for the video and audio clips, just a quick reminder of the incredible talents of this man. He truly is a complete talent, performer and musician of the highest order and what a treat to get just a glimpse now and then 30 years later of what i was so fortunate to witness live.and Eric.....Thank YOU........Dean Tyler
Jeff
Wonderful video, Bernie -- I pass the Nakano Sunplaza all the time, but didn't even know it is a rock venue .... cool... (it's not saying much -- since almost nothing is in English in Japan, I don't know what most places are ) Also, I didn't realize (or forgot) Curt Becher (AKA Boettcher) also was on the tour. He is one of my favorite producer/arranger/writers ... his work with (and as) Sagittarius and the Millennium in the '60s were amazing, as well as with the Association. And his backing vocals enhanced many, including Eric and the Beach Boys. It should be in another thread, but any of you guys cognizant on how great Curt Boettcher was? He died in the late '80s. marvin
Curt Becher is a wonderful singer/musician. He's done a ton of vocal work with many acts including not suprisingly, the Beach Boys. Didn't realize that Curt Becher and Curt Boettcher were one and the same, nor did I realize that he had passed away.Marvin

Trindy
Am I the only one this is happening to? When I go to this link, it just takes me to the multimedia page with "Party's Over" on it. What happened?
MAM
Trindy, you probably need to hit your "refresh page" button.
marlene
I'm thrilled with the selection of MP3's, too, Bernie. The slow version of "Let's Pretend" is amazing !! Thanks so much. And thank YOU, Eric. Marlene
Jeff
OK, I'm a pig -- one is never enough for me -- since there was a TV show broadcast, and obviously this tune is available, is the whole video available anywhere? Even in Japan?
Raspbernie
Jeff,We're talking 1980 here…way before every home had a VCR. But we're also talking about Japan, where the dang technology was invented! So, yes. A number of Eric Carmen fans who had early versions of VCRs did tape the concert off their TV sets and if you look hard enough you should be able to find a copy of the full show!Bernie :-)
Jeff
That's a true thought -- Hopefully, one will surface. Interesting enough, I severly doubt there was even VHS in Japan, since Sony was the monolpoly, I bet you it was all "Beta" format then (remember that ??!!?) Raspbernie
Funny you should mention it. The original tape that I had transferred was in fact Beta! Thank goodness there are some services available that still keep the old equipment in working order.Bernie
-Laury-
Thanks for the video Bernie, these little tidbit teasers you toss out there on this site keep it interesting and fun.
aggiesjc
Took me a while to get a look at this, but it's SO GREAT!!! Thanks, Bernie! Eric sounds (and looks) wonderful! What great hair -- always liked a little length on it. Jennifer
Tony Cartmill
Don't hear much of a cheering crowd when the song ends. What's up with that? I thought the Japanese go Ga Ga for the man with the big hair...
Raspbernie
Tony,I assume this is a board mix, so what you're hearing is only the audience that the stage mikes would pick up.Bernie
kazumi
Japanese audience were crazy about Eric's performance. Believe me because I was there.Kazumi
