Les R.
Eric became my teen idol at age 13 when "She Did It" started climbing the charts 30 years ago this month. And he's still the best today! These are my EC faves:1. SHE DID IT 2. She Did It3. She Did It4. She Did It5. Hey Deanie6. Go All the Way7. That's Rock & Roll8. All By Myself9. Never Gonna Fall in Love Again10. Let's Pretend11. Don't Wanna Say Goodbye12. Someday ('B' side of "SHE DID IT"!)13. I'm Through With Love14. Hungry Eyes15. Make Me Lose Control"She Did It" is not only my favorite EC song, but it is my all-time favorite song by ANY artist!Eric, even though "She Did It" reached no higher than #23 on the national chart, I want you to know that it did make #6 on the WLS chart in Chicago!I wish there were a video for it, or at least for "She Did It" to be posted on You Tube because it is not there as of yet. (Believe me, I look for it at least once a week!)

Les R.
Hi Hollies & THANKS, Ira & Bernie!!! Well oops I just saw that this thread is "solo only," so I need to round out my top 15: 1. She Did It 2. She Did It 3. Ooo-ma-She Did It (Hey, was that really the Beach Boys in the background????) 14. Sleep With Me 15. Last Night At first I couldn't decide between "Last Night" and "Tonight," but then I remembered that "Tonight" was yet another Raspberries tune lol. Since I was only 12-13 when I got my first E.C. 45 RPMs, I didn't even discover the Raspberries until a year or 2 after wanting to become Eric's groupie, following him around to make sure he never had another "All By Myself" moment again! (alright I confess, that hasn't changed...) Mike, I'm with you, I just can't fathom leaving out Eric's biggest hit ever from my Top 15. In fact, "All By Myself" and "She Did It" the 2 EC songs that have charted twice! The hits that others have chosen to re-do are a very good indicator of his most excellent work. (Haven't heard Michael Damian's rendition of "She Did It" in ages...) Incidentally, I have created a chart list of Eric's hits & compositions for other artists on the bottom of his Wikipedia page! I researched the info from www.top40db.net -- Could everyone go take a look at it to make sure that it is complete? Luv ya, Eric!
LC
Hey Les R, welcome. I kind of get the impression you like "She Did It." Great song.... Last Christmas, Bernie posted a demo of "She Did It" here that was awesome. Best, Larry
Les R.
Hi Larry! Thank you for the links. It was fascinating to read that nice long Boats blog (the greatest LP of 1977). I would love to hear that "She Did It" demo too! And I totally remember that sticker! I don't think I still have it, but it was on my wall for several years. How awesome to see that again. THANKS... LC
I never "wrapped up" this thread, so.... I'll do it now, on a slow night when I should be doing some work.... My disclaimer: I know this is unscientific, and a crude way to do it, and a small sampling (23 "ballots"). And yes, we probably could have just used the "Poll" feature, but, for what it's worth, here’s the ranking of Eric Carmen songs per this thread. The totals are based on #1 picks getting 15 points; #2 picks getting 14; and so on, down to #15 picks getting 1 point….) In a couple cases, the lister didn't rank songs, so each one got 8 points. Like I said, for what it’s worth…. POINTS/SONG/VOTES221--Boats Against the Current (21 votes out of 23 lists)138--All By Myself (14 votes)135--She Remembered (15 votes)133--Never Gonna Fall in Love Again (13 votes)132--Sunrise (15 votes)107--It Hurts Too Much (13 votes)106--She Did It (11 votes; Les, I couldn't count ALL of your She Did It votes!)104--Make Me Lose Control (12 votes)88--That's Rock'n'Roll (11 votes)83--I'm Through With Love (9 votes)80--Hey Deanie (12 votes)79--Sleep With Me (10 votes)76--Runaway (9 votes)75--Desperate Fools (9 votes)73--The Way We Used to Be (9)70--Nowhere to Hide (7)69--All for Love (9)67--My Girl (9)56--Hungry Eyes (7)53--American as Apple Pie (6)52--Foolin' Myself (7)48--I Was Born to Love You (7)46--No Hard Feelings (7)43--Someday (7)43--Top Down Summer (8)42--Marathon Man (4)39--Change of Heart (5)37--I Wanna Hear It From Your Lips (7)30--I Wanna Take Forever Tonight (5)

blackhawkpat
Larry, thanks for totalling it all up. Interesting to see the masses thoughts on Eric's great library. LC
A bump from almost 15 years ago! Time makes you older, and rankings get colder, so... here's how my EC solo tastes have changed. 1. Boats Against the Current. (Still #1 for me—poetry in music.)2. Desperate Fools. (Right on the heels of "Boats," still #2 for me.)3. Nowhere to Hide. (Dark, depressing, anguished—I had to elevate this one, up from #5.)4. I'm Through with Love. (And sad goodbyes—not on my original Top 15.)5. I Think I Found Myself. (A deep cut that somehow gains more and more appeal for me as time goes on. Not in my original 15.)6. My Girl. (Finally, a ray of "upbeat" on my list—such a perfectly composed and executed pop song. Up from #7.)7. No Hard Feelings. (Eric's best rocker—a gem because it's the ultimate insider's review of Raspberries' plight.) 8. The Way We Used to Be. (Up from #13.)9. Love Is All That Matters. (Perfect melody. Still #9.)10. All By Myself. (Down from #3—probably a matter of overexposure.)11. She Did It. (Still at #11.)12. Never Gonna Fall in Love Again. (Down from #4., for no particular reason. Still love it.)13. Someday. ("B" side that would have made a nice "A" side. Up from #12.) 14. Take It or Leave It. (Another one that's aging well, for me. Not on original list.)15. That's Rock'n'Roll. (Somehow not on my original list.) Honorable mentions: Hey Deanie Sunrise (former #6) She Remembered (former #10) Run Away (former #14) Marathon Man Walk Away Renee (former #15) Make Me Lose Control Hungry Eyes It Hurts Too Much (former #8) I Wanna Hear it From Your Lips EverythingClunkers, for me (or, you can't love everything—Change of Heart, Inside Story, Sleep with Me, Come Back to My Love, Spotlight, I Could Really Love You
