hungryeyes
Could you pick one song from the entire EC/Raspberries collection that you really don't like? Ok, it is hard to admit something like that, lets just say could you pick your absolute, least favorite song? I thought about this a few days ago when I was listening to a CD by a band that I really like, and then that one song started to play and I thought about how much I really didn't like that song considering all of their songs are fantastic. I realize this applied to an EC album that I play, then I hear that one song and I can't help it, I just don't like it. Oh, I think I could hear everyone out there gasping as they read this. Well, I guess I am just being honest, we can't like everything all of the time. Well, I don't know maybe some do. We always talk about all the songs we love, I thought it would be interesting to see what everyone considers their least favorite. Your least favorite song might be a favorite of someone else, or it might even be Erics favorite. Standing before everyone in this forum.....My name is Gina..and I admit...I really don't like ON BROADWAY
Donmand
Two songs I don't Like...Raspberries -- Rock & Roll Mama Probably one of the weakest songs they ever recorded. But it was on their 1st album. I skip this song every time the CD plays.Eric Carmen -- You took me all the WayA poor attempt to re-make (circa 1984) "Go all the Way". Should have been dropped from the album and a different unreleased track added in it's place. Eric has enough unreleased gems to fill an entire CD. JuliaD
Oh, man, I *know* I'm gonna get flack over this one... I won't say "I hate it", cuz that is a bit too strong, but my least favorite is.....(omigosh, am I really gonna say this?)... All By MyselfI love the piano solo part and the lyrics, but the song "as a whole" is my least favorite
JuliaD
Oh, Don, I have to disagree, I think making a "sequel" to "Go All The Way" was brilliant... sort of a reflection on the past by a somewhat older and wiser man... bittersweet memories of more innocent days, lost loves, first loves, losing your virginity (can I say that in here Bernie? ), all the emotions of youth revisited... I think it's super
darlene
I can't believe I'm doing this, either. I can't even say I don't like it, but my least favorite song (I guess there has to be a least favorite for everyone) is..."Hands On You." Actually, it's very funny, but as a musical endeavor (which it was probably never meant to be much of), it's my least favorite. I don't skip it, because the guitar is sort of catchy, and the off-mike remarks, if you try to hear them, are pretty funny. --Darlene
Raspbernie
Least favorite...Raspberries -- "Money Down"Eric Carmen -- "Lost In The Shuffle"--Bernie
marvin
Least favourite EC song? Just about all of the originals on "Winter Dreams" and the "Geffen album" except "I Could Really Love You", "American As Apple Pie", and "The Way We Used to Be." On the other albums, "Runaway" is way too melodramatic and it goes on for too long. I know I'm gonna get flamed now!Marvin
Gregkevinw
First off...JuliaD...I'd be more concerned about an EC fan who has'nt "lost IT"!!! But I agree with your point about "Took Me All The Way". It was Eric's homage I believe to a classic pop song.Marvin, you're entitled to your opinion...but you're missing the "boat" (pun? probably) on "Winter Dreams".Now for least favs.Raspberrie tunes: anything written by Dave Smalley...sorry Dave, but if I wanted to hear the Eagles...Least favorite Eric tune: "Great Expectations"Bernie, when are going to get those unreleased songs??? I'm down for two copies!!!
darlene
Actually, I totally forgot about Money Down and Lost In The Shuffle. I guess those are my least favorite too. I don't skip them, but I just don't listen while they're playing. They move up to my least favorite -- Hands On You is off my least fav list for now... --Drlene
marvin
Sorry that my dislike for "Winter Dreams" seems to offend so many people, but I'll take the 'real' sound of "Lost in the Shuffle" and "Money Down" anytime over that artificial production on "Winter Dreams." Each of these songs also have a kick to them, but hey if we all had the same likes and dislikes...Marvin
Steveh
Gina, the only Raspberries songs I listen to are the ones Eric wrote and sang lead vocal, except for Cry and Play On. So I have a lot of least favorite Raspberries songs, including: Money Down and Rock and Roll Mama. My least favorite EC songs are: I'm a Rocker and I Think I Found Myself. JuliaD, you are not all by yourself in not liking All By Yourself - it's SAD and long and SO SLOW - I often skip it. I think most of us would agree that if Eric had only asked us what we thought about certain songs, he never would have released: On Broadway, Take It Or Leave It, and Great Expectations. Marvin, did you try playing Winter Dreams while imagining yourself singing to your girl as you slowdance with her? How about singing to her, "When we close the door, all I need is in your eyes"? Julie
Hmmmm...I guess it's a tie between "Sunrise" and "On Broadway". I dislike "Sunrise" enough that I never even realized that I had a "live" version of it until last weekend! I absolutely LOVE the beginning of it, but when 'Tracy Partridge . Seriously though, at first, whenever you said something disparaging about "Winter Dreams", I'd get annoyed. But, after reading all of your other posts, I know that you're not trying to be mean. So, I respect your opinion.I do love, "You Took Me All The Way". I thought it was wonderfully clever and brought the song full circle. As for the Berries. Well, now that I'm older, I don't really like "Tonight" or "Ecstacy" just because they're soooooooo NOISY! My old ears are just too sensitive. Seven or eight years ago, they were my favorites. Now, I'm more interested in the vocals, and they're buried in the beat. Of course, all of my opinions may change tomorrow... --Julie
LostControl
Although for some odd reason I really like it, I'm surprised no one mentioned the wailing bagpipes on "Tonight you're mine".Michelle
JuliaD
Michelle, when it comes to listening to Eric saying things like "then she put my hand in her pants" , and "come on, take me, I want your love to break me", you don't expect the women of the board to have problems with a little thing like bellowing bagpipes, do you? Kirk
All righty then! Everybody out of the closet! Thanks for your support Bernie for "Lost In The Shuffle" Although it really ain't too bad, but really now, shufflettes?Kirk.
marvin
Hey SteveH I like to consider myself as being a romantic, but that's got nothing to do with the quality of music on "WD." Eric has written some incredible ballads, but IMHO, "WD" is his weakest collection of ballads, and who needs an album full of 'em? Ok now I promise not to say anything negative anymore about this album...uh..unless of course someone else puts it on a pedestal! Here are my thoughts on some of the other songs that people do not like:"Sunrise" - great song, albeit the opening is very similar to the Beach Boys'"I Can Hear Music.""Tonite You're Mine" - forget the rather infantile lyrics, the melody is among Eric's strongest, and Carmen Appice beats the heck out of the drums.Ok I'm not too crazy about "Rock and Roll Mama" either, but so what if Dave Smalley's stuff is tinged with a bit of country? Eric's stuff is loaded with riffs copied from the Beach Boys / Beatles / the Who / Small Faces etc., and I don't hear anybody complaining. "Money Down" - yeah it drags a bit and it probably could have been sped up a touch, but I love Wally's singing and playing. Thanks for reading!Marvin
darlene
Thank goodness we are all so different from each other and have so many conflicting opinions! What passionate views and vibrant wit we all have! That's one of the reasons I read the board every-day (yep, I'll admit, I'm a board junkie, except that I do have the discipline to really limit my time "on"). Eric's genius, wit and intelligence have attracted people with wit, intelligence and discernment, and his fans NEVER follow blindly: we all go kicking and screaming and backing our opinions up with intelligent evidence. Our great leader, Bernie, had organized a fanbase to one of the greatest musicians of the century, and that fanbase is composed of some of the greatest and most intelligent people fans could be. Thanks, everyone, just for being you! --Darlene

Steveh
Darlene:Your last post was so true -- little by little, I've come to realize that not only is EC the best, but so are EC fans! It seems that all of us realize that it's fine to have different opinions -- that's what makes life interesting. I know of no other website that can match this one -- we are joined together by an artist who expresses his emotions deeply and makes us feel like he does. Tiggsherby
"Marathon Man" is my least favorite, don't hate it but never listen to "All By Myself" either!!! I love "Sunrise" and "Tonight You're Mine" -- "I'm Through With Love" is probably my all-time favorite!!
JuliaD
Hehehe, Michelle... one of the nicer things about aging is the lost innocence of youth... I don't easily blush! So bring it on, Eric!!!
Randy
"Money Down" and "Hands On You" are terrible! There are a few rejects on Winter Dreams, as far as a solo vote.
Tony Cartmill
Using the line, "Sleep with me" as the title and main chorus line kind of ruined what other than that, is a really good song. I guess that "Tonight Your Mine" album was written by Eric for horny teenagers? Or to dispell rumors that he was gay? Back then I had 2 gay co-workers try to convince me he was. Did anybody else hear those rumors?
Matthew C. Clark
When I bought the 45 single "Tonight", the song did not had the line "Won't you let me sleep with you baby...oh yeah", that part of the song was cut out. The song is 3:25 instead of 3:39 probably because AM radio stations did not want that line on the song. Matt
