Does Eric Have A Computer?

The following comments come with a very large caveat and bias: I am a huge fan of Brian's so please note that I am being as subjective as I possibly can.

Brian has one major ace in his deck: he has no problem pulling in any musician that he wants because EVERY musician owes a debt to Brian and wants to work with him. Even though he does not presently have a recording contract,(he released his last disc on his own label through his website and selected retailers), the success of his tour and the fact that his new recordings include among others, Elton John, has piqued the interest and curiousity of companies. Brian will never be a major seller again, but God bless him for feeling that he still has a lot to offer musically. By hook or crook he's determined to get his music out to the public in 2004. So if Brian can do it, anyone can.

Marvin--Serious biz, Brian Wilson was in the Rose Parade this year. I've already taped over it, but the theme of the parade was music, and the Beach Boys were blaring away on the float he was riding on. He even has the 'parade wave' down pretty well--Kirk.

Yeah, I know what you mean, Marvin. Like the time I ran into him at Lake Tahoe....must have been about 15 years ago or so.......happened to be playing some quarter machine, and Brian was roaming around the casino.

He comes up to me and gruffly says, "How's it Goin?".....then stands behind me and watches the wheels spin, bouncing his head up and down. He finally leaves after about 10-15 minutes of this.

Let's all go to the Beach Boys site and discuss these issues, ok

I'll meet you there first,LOL

I like Brian Wilsons songs, I saw a special on him on television, the drug problem and all.

I'm a fan of him, if he keeps clean and takes his medication, he will continue to hopefully

put out more records too,( maybe, huh?)

I have a Beach Boys Vinyl record, it's yellow, A collectors item.

Marvin and all, I really respect Brian Wilson too.

We haven't been rock stars, and so much happens when one's life is so drastically changed, you have to wonder if not "there but for the grace of God go I." I think with everything that's happened to him, Brian is really to be applauded for putting his music out there, because he feels he does have something to offer.

The danger in putting out what one is doing now is as Rick Nelson so aptly put it in 'Garden Party:' "If memories are all I sing--I'd rather drive a truck." When an artist puts out what he/she is currently doing, sometimes people are disappointed because it doesn't sound like "back then" in their opinion, or it doesn't sound like they expect the artist to be now. However, someone as extremely over-the-edge talented as Eric should put it out there anyway--be fearless, be a Lion-heart--GO for it! I think WD's basic problem is not having live music. When Eric puts something out there with live music, he'll be golden.

I forgot to add something: Nobody's voice is going to sound at 50 like it did at 25--NOBODY'S!

I think what separates the great performers from the great performers who aren't still performing is that they just go out like troupers, take the risk, and do it anyway. Frank Sinatra fluffed over words, couldn't put a tone out there, couldn't hold out notes at all, but when he stepped out on the stage, nobody cared! (That was because it was to quote someone, "%&$#^^ing Frank Sinatra!" He had already made a long career out of singing--they knew he had "been there, done that" with singing gorgeously--they didn't even care what he sang or how, they just wanted to SEE him sing, no matter what it sounded like! So, I hope Eric realizes this and comes out again.

Darlene I'm not sure if you've heard any of Brian's post-Beach Boys music, but I've heard just about everything (bootlegs included) that he has recorded since about 1985. Most of it is fabulous. Sure it probably only has appeal to the real, true fans, but these are the fans who are not living in the past and they are the ones who want to hear new BW music instead of "California Girls" ad nauseum. Considering the life that he has lived, it is truly a wonder that Brian is still with us and his brothers have passed. For this and many other reasons, Brian Wilson and his music will be part of the soundtrack to my life.

I like Eric's voice as well or better now than when he was 25. Sure he could hit higher notes then, but I cringe sometimes when he hits those nasally high notes on the old songs that he should have written a step or half-step lower. His singing voice is a little lower and smokey now, and a little less nasal.

Cigarettes can kill you over time, but they do give your voice a tonal color that sounds cool.

Eric knows that, and I bet his doctor does too.

Thanks for the reminder of the Ringo tour Darlene. I forgot that studio magic can make wonders of even the worst voice. Brian in-studio sounds fine, live, his voice is somewhat weak. I saw Eric on the Ringo tour in Minnesota 2000 and he had a heck of a time trying to hit the notes on "ABM." In it's present key, it's way out of his range now.

Darlene I saw the show in June of 2000. Eric also had problems on "Go All the Way." No big deal to me, and maybe he was tired. The one aspect of that show that has always stuck with me was Ringo trying to rev up the crowd. At one point he yelled "C'mon MILWAUKEE, you can make more noise than that!" A few minutes later he corrected himself, but it was quite funny.
