darlene
Okay, everyone. Here's your scenario: Guys, you have just invited your Fantasy Girl to dinner on the balcony of your gorgeous, spacious, hi-rise apartment on "Lake Shore Drive, Anycity USA." She is everything you ever dreamed of, and more. After a perfect dinner, enjoying a midsummer night's dream with a view to die for on the balcony, you go in and put on a CD of (guess who? our favorite artist) EC, and you are going to dance with this beauty and YOU are not allowed to say one word: You have to let EC say it all for you.Okay, What is the perfect song you will play? And, ladies, YOU are this exotic beauty. What is the perfect song you want HIM to play? Choose carefully, remember, your whole future depends upon it. I'll tell you my choice later.Have fun. --Darlene
kazumi
Darlene, What a question!Let me see...Maybe I want him to play Let's Pretend, Almost Paradise or Sleep With Me. But Sleep With Me is too obvious Oh, How about Wild Wild Heart? It must be the perfect song in this situation. OK I choose Wild Wild Heart. JuliaD
It'd have to be I Wanna Take Forever Tonight... and it definitely *wouldn't* be "All By Myself"!!!
Steveh
Great question, Darlene!Eric has made at least 15 or 20 songs that would be perfect, but I'll rank my favorites for this situation: I Was Born To Love You, Love Is All That Matters, I Wanna Take Forever Tonight, Almost Paradise, Isn't It Romantic, and Everytime I Make Love To You. How about just playing the whole IWBTLY CD?Steveh
darlene
These answers are just GREAT! Kazumi, ANYTHING is appropriate! "Sleep With Me" was one of the choices I considered too, because, the way he wrote it, it's just so tasteful and beautiful, it's as appropriate as anything else. (Hands On You would be another story!) I hope everyone responds to this one, and I really would love to hear Bernie's answers too! By the way, I'd love to know what ERIC'S choice would be. Maybe Bernie will tell us... --Darlene
LostControl
For a woman's point of view - I think I like "All by myself". It would let me know that the guy knows what lonelyness is, doesn't want it anymore, and wants to get into a serious relationship. IWBTLY comes in a very close second with me. Of course, if it was EC himself singing it, it could be the "Oscar Meyer Weiner" song for all I care!!! Michelle
Julie
It better not be "Tonight You're Mine" or "Take It or Leave It"! Seriously though, the first one that popped into my mind was "My Heart Stops". Not really your traditional love song, but it is in keeping with my fun-loving side, and what all-American girl wouldn't want someone to sing those very sweet words to her with total sincerity?Fun question! It kind of makes me feel like I'm Bachlorette #2 on the "Dating Game"! --Julie
Guest
I admit I am a bit biased towards the Raspberries era; but I would have to select "Starting Over" as the tune I would play in this senerio. I just feel it is the most beautiful ballad of anything EC has ever written; and to me that is saying alot because he has written so much great music during his solo career. Perhaps I am mis-applying the word 'ballad' here but that is the way I see it...Hey Darlene: this was a good topic to bring up!
Gregkevinw
Hey Darlene! Great Topic!"Hands On You"...just kidding.I definitely would have to load "Winter Dreams" in the player and start with "Forever Tonight"."Feel your breath on my shoulder, and I know we couldn't get any closer...""Wanna stay in this moment forever...""When we close the door, all I need is in your eyes..."And if we should kiss during our dance I can rest assured that back up is on the way..."Born To Love You""Every Time I Make Love To You""Almost Paradise""Isn't It Romantic""I Could Really Love You"(MARVIN...ARE YOU SURE???) Kirk
I would have to pick "Starting Over", also my favorite EC ballad. I thought maybe it might have too much excess baggage for this scenario, but what the hey! Kirk.

Kirk
As the music started I gently pulled her closer. I brushed her hair from her cheek and put my lips next to her face. Softly I sang, "Used to feel so fuffing optomistic, til she said goodbye". "Hmmm?", she said. I began again, "Used to feel so fuffing optomistic, til she said goodbye". "Huh?", she replied. I tried again, "Used to feel so f%$^&*g optomistic, til she said goodbye". She slapped my face and walked out the door. "Should have mumbled", I said quietly as I closed the door behind her. Kirk. darlene
These answers are so GREAT, I'm not giving mine yet. I just want to enjoy yours. Guys, you are so creative, witty and VERY FUNNY, Kirk! I am still waiting for Lobster Lover, Julia in London and Bernie, among others...I hope EVERYONE answers this one! See ya later... --Darlene
JuliaAllByMyself
This is tough! Darlene, I think you are very cruel making us pick just one! I've changed my mind several times and can think of so many, but I've been brutal and chosen just one Raspberries track "Let's Pretend' and one solo track "Heaven Can Wait'. TammyK
"I Want to Take Forever Tonight" and "Every Time I Make Love to You" and "I Was Born to Love You" and "Isn't it Romantic" melt my heart. So does "Sleep With Me", but I realize tonight that I haven't heard it in ages. Wait a minute - do I have that CD? Gotta go... gotta get the kids to bed... gotta do some late night shopping! YvonneLetsPretend
Darlene:GREAT QUESTION: I've been an EC fan for 30+ years. Being a woman I'd like to start off with "She Remembered" ñ very romantic ; go on to "Let's Pretend" ñ my all time favorite ; and end off the perfect night with "Go All the Way" ñ perfect ending . Of course, I love "I Was Born To Love You" and "Hungry Eyes", but for that special night I'd pick those three. Any remarks???P.S. HI Gina... aggiesjc
Almost anything except Cartoon World and Top Down Summer from Winter Dreams would be great for that scenario (and even those might work nicely, depending on my mood!).

Tony Cartmill
Wait, where do you get a slower version of "Let's Pretend" Is this a Bernie secret rarity I haven't heard about? Where did you guys hear it?
Donmand
Many Raspberries Concert's from the Starting Over Tour would feature a medley: "Let's Pretend" & "Starting Over". The band would play a ballad version of "Let's Pretend" with Eric on piano; Scott on a "pro soloist" keyboard, Wally would play Scott's bass guitar and Michael would play very lite drums. The song would flow right into "Starting Over". Some Concert's would start with the medley and others would have the medley performed mid-way thru the show. When Raspberries played Don Kirshner's Rock Concert (circa October 1974) this was a standout selection from the TV show.Don
Raspbernie
If many of you haven't heard the slow ballad version of "Let's Pretend" (that's what I've taken to calling it over the years), I can make it the next MP3 selection. It's totally A-MA-ZING! --Bernie
