marvin
Yes that was me mentioning Greg Kihn. I still have quite a few of his albums(!) Where are you now Greg?Marvin
hbecstacy
I believe Greg Kihn is working as a dj ...and he is the author of four rock-oriented mystery novels available on Amazon.com. He was featured on a vh1 "Where Are They Now?" as I recall. I don't think he's recording new music at this point.Howard
marvin
Here's another 'blast from the past': for those old enough to remember, whatever happened to Walter ("Magnet and Steel") Egan?Marvin
Steveh
Hey EC fans! This is my first reply ever! Here are my wacky top eight bands:1. EC/Raspberries2. The Beatles (early)3. Kansas4. The Who (not early)5. Van Halen (with David Lee Roth)6. The B-52's7. Styx8. REO SpeedwagonYeah, yeah I know this is a strange mix, but each of these bands serves a purpose for me. Kansas, The Who, Van Halen, Styx, and REO Speedwagon are great bands to help me feel energetic, powerful, and are great to exercise by. The B-52's are funny and energizing. EC is in a class by himself. He is all about LOVE -- no other singer/band is needed!
Raspbernie
Steveh-- I actually saw Kansas, Styx and REO live during their heyday, so if you're wacky...I must be, too! --Bernie
Billy K.
Marvin, aggiesjc...Greg Kihn is the morning drive time DJ on KUFX (K-FOX) 98.5 in the S.F. Bay Area...the Greg Kihn band does do gigs occasionally but I don't know if there are any of the other original members besides Greg... Billy K.
hbecstasy...I forgot to mention you as you were the one that brought it up...as far as I know, the Kihn Band is just touring, but not recording.
aggiesjc
Hey, Marvin! You and I are both Lindsey Buckingham fans - didn't LB work with Walter Egan to some degree?
hbecstacy
Lindsey B. helped out on Walter Egan's "Fundamental Roll" album, including backup vocals on "Magnet and Steel"...not sure what Walter is doing these days, but he was credited with doing the Woodcut art that appeared in the packaging of Lindsey's awesome 1992 solo album "Out of the Cradle"...Howard
Steveh
Bernie, I saw Styx with REO at Penn St. this past winter, and Kansas in Pittsburgh last summer -- they still sound great! When I like a band, I REALLY like them.Wacky Steveh
Matthew C. Clark
Walter Egan has a brand new CD called "Apocalypso Now". I do not have the CD. Check out: allmusic.com for more details on Walter. It's has been a long time since I heard of Greg Kihn. Greg put out a solo CD I think back in 1995 or 1996 but I'm not sure. Matt
Matthew C. Clark
Greg Kihn had made some CD's including 1994 "Mutiny" & 1996 "Horror Show" but those CD's are no longer made & out of print! Greg made another comeback with "All The Right Reasons" back in 2000 which contains recuts & remakes of songs. marvin
"Magnet and Steel" makes my "All time best Pop Songs" list, as does another one of Walter Egan's songs, "Star of my Heart." Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks both worked extensively with Walter Egan during the "M a S" days. This has got me thinking about other 1970's-80's bands that I used to love. Anyone know what became of Cleveland's 'other' premier rock band, The Michael Stanley Band? Last I heard, Michael was also doing radio work in the Cleveland area.Marvin
Gemini
Lets see, Eric and the Raspberries who else is there. snicker. I listen to the Beatles, Badfinger, Harry Neilson, Everly Brothers, Elton John and many others. If I like it I listen to it. After all variety is the spice of life.Gemini

Chet
Eric's rock influences are clear: The Beatles, The Who, The Beach Boys, Faces. If you like his mellower side, you might also like: Just Once In My Life (Beach Boys OR Righteous Brothers versions); Mink Deville's ballads; Benny Mardones' Into the Night and Hey Baby; Andy Pratt's ballads; Ray Kennedy; Left Bank (original "Walk Away Renee" band); Marmalade's Reflections of My Life; Brooklyn Bridge's Worst That Could Happen...Can anyone else think of Eric-like majestic piano-based, heartfelt music/songs? leealy
Really enjoyed reading on this topic. I think no one comes close to Eric Carmen when it comes to writing/singing songs that hit on the emotions so intimately. Thank you Eric, for enriching my life! Here are a few others I like to listen to...J.D. Souther, Art Garfunkel, Dan Fogelberg, Boz Scaggs, Dan Hill, Michael Bolton, Karla Bonoff (great song writer). Billy K.
Yes, Karla Bonoff is certainly underrated, isn't she??
marvin
Yes Karla is certainly underated, but not as much as JD Souther. JD where are you???Marvin
aggiesjc
Marvin (or anyone else who knows), what songs is JD Souther responsible for (I assume as songwriter and singer)?
Julie
Didn't he do "When You're Only Lonely"?
Billy K.
Yes, Julie, J.D. Souther did do "You're Only Lonely"...but he also co-wrote some of the Eagles' songs (can't remember which ones, though, off the top of my head).Plus he did studio and live work with former Byrds members, Linda Ronstadt, and Jackson Browne. LostControl
Back to the topic at hand, besides Eric, I'm also a big fan of Simon & Garfunkel (and all Paul Simon material before he started stealing all his material from other cultures), Burton Cummings (who EC has worked with in the past), and other Canadian groups such as Trooper, the Arrogant Worms, Captain Tractor, Roch Voisine, etc. Actually, my music collection is VERY eclectic. Everything from Finnish rock bands to classical music and country. Just about everything but opera makes it into the collection. In fact, I just bought a EC CD today! Yeah! I can't wait to listen to it.Michelle
