marvin
Well Ellece you didn't stump me. When I typed my message,I thought to myself, "Is she talking about the guy/group that did "Tarzan Boy"?" Nah, can't be. Shoulda gone with my first instincts!MARVIN
Ellece
You were right, Marvin!! I just like your answers to music trivia and the complete info you have on musicians so much.. that's why I wanted you to tell me something about Baltimora. marvin
Thanks for those kind words Ellece. Music has been my passion for as long as I can remember and I've always tried to learn as much as possible about all styles. MARVIN
aggiesjc
Ellece, I knew exactly who you meant when you mentioned Baltimora ... I always liked Tarzan Boy, and can still find it on a couple of my old tapes. That song takes me right back to my college days.
Matthew C. Clark
Back in the mid 90's, Listerine had a commercial & it featured the song "Tarzan Boy". Matt
aggiesjc
I remember that, too, Matt.
JoAnna
All I do listen to is Eric Carmen and "The Raspberries". I guess I'm just stuck into the seventies. Oh, Led Zeppelin, too! The music of today, in my opinion is just a cluster of white/black ubangi native music mixed in with high-pitched, screaming screetchy voices, which to me is no talent whatsoever. aggiesjc
Hi, JoAnna! I agree with your assessment of today's "music." Stick with Eric and the Raspberries, and check out some of the other artists people on this board recommend.
hungryeyes
To Blackhawk Pat-- Do you have Rock n' Roll Roots Vol. 4? Well, once again no Raspberries but at least we tried. A few weeks ago Stroud was at Borders for the CD release. Did you stop by there? When he saw me he said "No Raspberries" I said that's ok maybe next time.I was really excited to see that a song I have requested since Vol 1 made it on this CD. It is REFLECTIONS OF MY LIFE by Marmalade. Well we will wait for Vol 5, and try againGina
Matthew C. Clark
The song "Reflections Of My Life" by Marmalade is also found on Rhino's Super Hits of The 70's: Have A Nice Day, Volume 2. The song went to # 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart back in May of 1970. Matt
Kristina
I have all volumes from 1-25 of the "Super Hits of the 70s Have a Nice Day" series and highly recommend it to all. Great collection. Does anyone know if 25 was the last of the series..I am greedy and want more...
Matthew C. Clark
I also have Rhino "Didn't It Blow Your Mind: Soul Hits Of The 70's" Volumes 1-15. I do not have Volumes 16-20 though. Rhino did release "Radio Daze: Pop Hits Of The 80's" Volumes 1-5 but those CD's are no longer made & out of print. If your hungry for more, check out Barry Scott Presents The Lost 45's Of The 70's & 80's Volumes: 1 & 2 on Varese Sarabande. Also worth having is Bubblegum Classics Volumes: 1-3 also on Varese Sarabarde.
Lydia
The only new work from any artist that I've purchased recently is Christine Lavin. My grandchildren keep my car radio tuned to Disney Radio (somewhere on the AM dial in every town in America) and some of that stuff isn't half bad! On the other hand, the rest of it will make your ears bleed. But, like Ellece, I really enjoy Pink, 'NSync and The Backstreet Boys won't kill you, and Christina Aguilera shows the potential to mature into a powerful singer with great emotional depth. I took my grandddaughter to her first live show a few weeks ago. It was 'Lil Bow Wow....A Rapper...For $40.00 a ticket! :::sigh::: But afterwards she told me that I was "the bestest MomMom in the whole world!" So, it looks like Disney Radio is gonna be my music for along time to come.
marvin
Trust Rhino to put out the best compilation Box Sets around. Their packaging and liner notes are second to none. I have their "Beg, Scream & Shout - the Big Ole Box of '60's Soul", "Can You Dig It - the 1970's Soul Experience", "Have A Nice Decade - the 1970's Pop Culture Box", and a slew of the "Didn't It Blow Your Mind" and "Doo Wop Ballads/Uptempo" series. All highly recommended for those who want variety to their music collections.Regards,MARVIN
Kristina
Hi Matt! Thanks for all the suggestions! I have one CD of the Radio Daze Hits of the 80s and always search the bins for the rest of that series and wondered why I couldn't find them. Did you know that Barry Scott used to be a VJ for a local video music station here in Massachusetts (Framingham) before he became nationally known. The station didn't last long but it was really fun while we had it along with MTV and VH1. It was 1984-85. He also wrote a book that I own of all the teen idol music-very interesting. I agree with Marvin on the Rhino compilations-it's so much fun to hear of what became of the one hit wonders...Hey Lydia! Nothing wrong with some current so called "teen" music --I like some of the N'Sync, Backstreet Boys, Christina Aquilera songs. You do sound like a cool MomMom!!! Tony Cartmill
I've been getting into the group "Westlife". A UK version of the Backstreet Boys. I think some of the songs are by the same writers. Some good multi-part harmony ballads.

JoAnna
Hello Eric Carmen fans!!! In addition to listening to Eric, I also listen to Bach, Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, Enya, Def Leppard, Alice Cooper, Dwight Yoakam, Shania Twain, Toby Keith, to name a few. aggiesjc
JoAnna, that pretty much spans the spectrum from classical to country, with some Def Leppard in between! You're in good company here - we all seem to have widely varied taste in music. Welcome!
Craig Benfer
One thing I have noticed on this board is that there are a lot of people who have wide tastes in music. I have always considered myself to have one of the most diversified music appetites of anyone I have ever met. It is unusual to meet someone like this. On this board however, it is not unusual. It seems to me that fans of Eric are truly appreciative of good music, and don't discriminate against it whether it is country, rock, pop, or classical. I think it's because we seem to focus more on the harmony and arrangemnet of a piece, rather than it's beat or social status.
aggiesjc
I agree, Craig, though I tend to not want to venture too close to rap. Most of that genre holds no interest for me, or worse, repels me.
Raspbernie
Even *I*..."Mr. Softspot for Eric's ballads" admit to having plunked down some change for a couple Alice Cooper albums back in the day. --Bernie
