Raspyrock
I always wondered if the Raspberries had of signed w/ another label, like Epic, would they have promoted the band better, better studio cuts, etc., and actually made more money (greater fame) for the band rather than the better up-front offer that Capitol Records made??? Raspbernie
Bernie who is that in the picture with Eric? That photo dates from the Epic days, so we'll need Eric to make a positive I.D. My guess is it's one of the Epic producers, either Sandy Linzer, Mike Petrillo or Barry Kornfeld.Bernie

At the New York show, DianeD introduced me to a person who in the early 1970's was working for Capitol Records. He said to me (not verbatim) "We were more interested in promoting our 'hot' acts, Grand Funk, Steve Miller, etc., we blew it on the Raspberries."Marv

HT from Mo
WOW! What a beautiful song! I am absolutely in awe how wonderful Eric's voice was at 18!Epic apparently didn't know what a talented singer/songwriter Eric was at that time. But we all know now!! Bessieboo
18 years old? Beautiful, mature song a Very talent young man. This may cause me look at my boys a little sadly, slowly shaking my head. They can't even unpack from school.
seattlesteve
Jimmy Webb,? Prolific songwriter at the time. I hear a little Witchita Lineman in his song.I'm surprised Eric didn't get scooped up as a hit machine writer, like Barry Gordy put together, or have a cubicle next to Neil Diamond, Carol King, Goffin, etc.Glad he didn't, but surprised he didn't. I think a lyricist like Pitchford proved how potent and productive the combo could be, with Eric pumping out melodies like Pez.Seattle Steve

Eric Carmen
Ugh. Just awful. Oh well, I was still trying to find my own voice (It wasn't THIS one). That's Sandy (Lover's Concerto) Linzer in the photo. My very first "producer." "I'll Hold Out My Hand" was produced by Barry Kornfeld. It was supposed to be the "B" side of "Light The Way," I think. Next year it will be forty years since that track was cut! ec
Bessieboo
You are much to tough on yourself,What we hear is talent 18 for a male is more child than a man.You will blink your eyes and your son will be
The Kiwi Connection
Awesome, especially for an 18 yo.Hey Eric, now that you've "found your own voice", how about re recording it, in time to celebrate the 40th anniversary of it being cut. LC
You are much to tough on yourself,What we hear is talent 18 for a male is more child than a man.You will blink your eyes and your son will be 18 Bessieboo, how old will my 7- and 4-year-old daughters be when I blink my eyes? Also 18? :-) Hee hee.... just being a smart-a**. Actually, I've been enjoying the heck out of their early years, but there's no doubt they're bittersweet times. Around three years ago, I was looking at my older daughter one day, in awe of how quickly she'd gone from totally helpless 6-pound infant to this 4-year-old with a killer sense of humor and sweet personality and a growing independence. I said, "Quinlyn, stop growing so fast!" She said, "Why?" I said, "I wanna enjoy your childhood a little longer." And she said,"Dad, you can still enjoy me when I'm grown up." I thought that was pretty deep, and a good way to look at things so that the "chronophobiac" in me would just shut up.... But I'm a little off topic here.... Sorry about that.... Tony Cartmill
I have no problem with that track. It could have been a nice addition to any Partridge Family album at that time...
Maryanne
MAGNIFICENT...... Is there any chance you would consider re-recording this gem on a future album. I thought it was beautiful just the way it was, but think of what you could do now with all your knowledge and todays technology..... Your voice is perfected now... Please consider the idea!! ............
AnniekNY
Eric, you are such a royal pain in the behind when you critique yourself!!! You're not objective!!! .Yes, it's not the voice you have now, but we all got to hear where it came from in the first place and that is really a cool evolutionary feature that we are lucky to be part of!! Of course it should have be mixed better - to me the levels were off - music too loud in spots, sounded like you were moving your mouth away from the mike in one spot - but YOU WERE EIGHTEEN! I second Maryanne - imagine what you could do with it now?
HT from Mo
Annie,Yes I agree! Can't we all be a royal pain when we critique ourselves in whatever we do. But we do have to cut ourselves some slack now and then - how about it Eric? Hmmm.....HT
AnniekNY
yep, HT, but our beloved Mr. C is a tough one to convince I'm thinking!
