Eric On Tour 2002!

Recommended Posts

Hey everybody! I'm right in the middle of updating the web site with my "Go All The Way" 30th Anniversary Tribute when Eric drops the bombshell on me that he'll be touring in July! Everything that I know is currently uploaded to the special TOUR page.

Please forgive me if some of the LINKS are not working for the GATW Birthday Bash but it'll all be sorted out over the next couple of days. I just didn't want to sit on the BIG NEWS!

Get ready for Summer!

I just did a Ticketmaster search for the tour and discovered that they will be in California at the end of JUNE, then moving to the other side of the country in July. I know you have given us all you have at the current time, Bernie, but I hope this doesn't mean Eric will only be performing on the east coast with the tour. Let us know when you have some more (hopefully good) news for us out west. Kirk.

Ron, "Let's Pretend" would be awsome, but I'm not sure on the others. I wonder if it will be just big hits or will he do some from his new album. Now he could do that Devil song, and shock the audience with it's magnetic draw. Think of all the possibilities. YaHOOOOO! JUNE :lol::lol:

Eric:

Thank you for electing to join the Abbey Road tour. I was a couple of years behind you at Brush High School, and never got to see you do any of the Beatles' stuff at the Chesterland Hullabaloo, and other hot spots in those days.

I saw you 3 times with Ringo, and have already snapped up tickets to 2 of the July dates for this new tour. This should be great, Beatles songs and some of your own!

YIPPEE, I ordered my tickets yesterday for the Hyannis show. I can't wait! This is so exciting, I never saw Eric perform live and never thought I would. Then comes the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame which was awsome and then some, then I get to see him with Ringo and now this. Life is good today.

Thank you Eric! :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Been in Washington State all my life and would love to get Eric on the West Coast. Judging by the other dates, I think the Ste. Michelle winery would be a good spot, good enough for the Ericless Ringo last summer.

Bernie: I know you don't have all the info on tour dates, but do you know the extent of the tour? In other words, is this going to be a short 6 city tour, or all summer? Do you know approximate length by either dates or weeks?

Steve-- Eric told me that he'll be joining the show in July. I assume that many more dates will be added over the next few weeks. Todd Rundgren will be playing all of the tour's June dates and will play some of the July dates along with Eric when he's available. Otherwise, he'll be opening for Hall & Oates.

Unfortunately, the June Todd dates are all on the West Coast. In July the tour is playing the middle of the U.S. with the tour heading east through the end of July. Whether they'll swing back West or not, I don't know. Everything I do find out will get uploaded to the web site. --Bernie

I am so bummed here in CA wishing a show would come this way. Buying a new house and probably can't pony up the money for a trip east right now! Still feel traumatized by Eric's absence from the N. Cal Dirty Dancing shows. Thank God for the Ringo shows in Saratoga and South Lake Tahoe!

I'm quite surprised by this combination of musicians. Never ever would've dreamed of Eric ever playing with Mark Farner and Alan Parsons!??? Mind you, a couple of years ago I never would've imagined Eric would be with Jack Bruce and Ringo either. Nice to see Christopher Cross in this group - he was incredible playing and singing with Brian Wilson on Brian's last couple of tours. A fine singer and musician who will be a super addition to the other talents.

I'm a bit curious as to what instrument Eric will be playing in this group. I would expect that Farner and Cross will be playing guitar, Bruce on bass, and Parsons on keys. Where does that leave Eric? Also, was there mention as to who the drummer is?

Finally, Bernie any idea whether the tour will make it to Canada?

Regards,

Marvin

Here's some more tour info (and the first that mentions Eric by name) that I picked up from Cleveland's Playhouse Square web site (where the tour is scheduled to stop on July 11):

A Walk Down Abbey Road -- A superstar tribute to The Beatles starring Alan Parsons, Jack Bruce of Cream, Mark Farner of Grand Funk Railroad, Christopher Cross and Eric Carmen tours this Summer.

The first half of the show features hits from each star, such as "Eye in the Sky" (Alan Parsons), "White Room" (Cream), "Ride Like The Wind" & "Sailing" (Christopher Cross), "Some Kind of Wonderful" & "We're an American Band" (Mark Farner), and "Go All The Way" & "All By Myself" (Eric Carmen). The second half of the show features each artist's favorite Beatles songs.

I'm analyzing, or maybe it's just wishful thinking. If the show is in two halves with the artists performing their own material in the opening half, then each artist should have time to perform about 4 or 5 of their own selections. In the second half they would have time to perform about 20+ Beatles selections.

Eric performed "Hungry Eyes" on the All-Starr tour because Ringo wanted each of the guys to play their "hits."

"Make Me Lose Control" was certainly a big hit for Eric, as was "I Wanna Be With You," but Eric didn't have the necessary vocal talent in the All-Starrs to pull 'em off. On the Abbey Road tour, he certainly has a better range of talent.

When Eric played the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame show he did both of those vocal-rich songs along with "Tonight" and much, much more.

If I was a betting man I wouldn't put any money on "Hungry Eyes." --Bernie
