Raspbernie
Hope everyone has checked out the new ASK ERIC column where Eric continues to answer your questions. Now for my question: Thousands of people check this web site every week ... is there anyone here who was at Carnegie Hall when the Raspberries performed there on September 26, 1973? Does anyone know somebody who was there that night? We'd love to hear from you. --Bernie
marvin
Sorry Bernie. The best that I can do is a copy of "Hit Parader" magazine's review of the show. Marv
Paul Sidoti
Hi Bernie, how are ya? Regarding the Carnegie Hall show and if I knew of anyone in the audience that night. I do, and some of you may know him as well. None other than Paul Stanley of KISS, who at the time was just in the embrionic stage of putting together the greatest rock band ever! He has mentioned many times that he loved the uniformed look of the band but it was Eric who truly blew him away. He has personally said to me, "He is a GREAT singer!" Our good buddy, Ken Sharp, has an interview here on the website where Paul mentioned how "The Raspberries blew Stories off the stage that night".
Raspbernie
Paul-- Eric told me that there were plenty of VIPs in the audience that night. Afterwards they all gathered for a party thrown by Capitol Records to celebrate the great show. One other notorious concertgoer that evening was Todd Rundgren who heard the Berries do their rip-roaring cover of "The Locomotion." He took the song to Grand Funk Railroad and produced a #1 hit single with the track. Ouch! --Bernie 1
Billy K.
I heard that the "official" recording of the concert was scrapped at the last minute. Just wondered if any bootlegs of the show exist...
seattlesteve
I thought I read/heard somewhere that Wally actually had a 4 track with him all hooked up, and just needed to hit start, bu the powers to be wouldn't let him.
Ron Sutton
Thats right Steve, the powers at the hall said no permit was issued to record. I would have tried to tape it anyways.Ron
LC
A 20-year, 6-month bump! This may be the longest bump in EC.com history. There's a purpose here, though.... Has anyone ever heard a bootleg from the legendary Carnegie Hall Raspberries show?
Raspbernie
As far as I know, no recording of the show exists. But the band was all set to record the show themselves for a possible live album. This endeavor was challenged and stopped by the folks at Carnegie because the band was using a mellotron to simulate a string section, which was against musician union rules. Imagine how great a professional recording of that show would have been! And what it might have done for the band’s popularity and future. 1 2
Rhonda B
Thanks for that info Bernie. That's the first time I've heard that was the reason. Wow. What a missed opportunity.. that is shameful.
Raspbernie
According to Wally, Carnegie nixed the taping literally when the band was ready to hit the "RECORD" button. Tape was ready to roll.
